Shinzaki v Great Muta

I got the 4/29/1996 Tokyo Dome show and I watched this unbelievable match. I didnt have much hope for it but good god, this was weird. The Gravestone shot that busted Shinzaki open was SICK ! Shinzaki got a 1.2 on the Muta Scale ! It was that good. Muta writing 'Death' on the Stone was just plain weird. The ending with the cross on the stomach was EASILY the most shocking and sick thing I have ever seen. Whatever you do, GET THIS MATCH !

It was a strange one, that's for sure.  Muta and Shinzaki both have bad problems with stalling, put together they're even worse, so this sucker clocks in at about thirty minutes long, only about twelve of which was actual wrestling.  But those twelve minutes did contain some pretty neat stuff.

I like the way that one of the guys at Rolling Germans interpreted it, with Shinzaki's "Hakushi" character being a holy monk, finally returning home after a long and arduous journey, ready to battle the embodiment of evil (Muta, wearing an evil-looking skull mask).  Adds an extra dimension to things.

Both these guys are so lazy it hurts. The match was probably the peak of Muta wierdness but that doesn't mean it was good. Just like most Muta matches, it was strange and sometimes interesting, but generally void of any actual work or wrestling-oriented appeal.
