OAO ECW on Sci-Fi Thread - October/10th/2006.

Recommended Posts

but the Katie Vick stuff wasn't the focal point of advertising for a full week, and at least served a purpose. It's fucking cable, WWE probably could have convinced the advertisers and Sci-Fi to let them flash a titty if they had wanted to, as long as they rate the show TV-MA and air warnings throughout the show, and if they really gave a shit about sparking controversy, they would have, but Vince has his head too far up his ass to ever realize.

So other than the strip poker stuff, was the show pretty good? I have to wait another 2 hours.

It was the paint by numbers show for ECW which means it was better as a whole then Raw. Punk was given a slightly more competitive match from Dupree. The strip stuff was the Balls Show as he comes off very fun and boisterous as it was a total contrast from his usual "IM BALLS!" metalhead routine.

I find it very werid that Balls is involved in the strip poker game and remember I haven't seen the show yet, another hour in a half until I see it.

The Katie Vick storyline had much more hype and focus given throughout the span of a month. The Katie Vick storyline was pushed not just as the focal point of the RAW brand in that particular period of time but they even shopped it around the mainstream media, BEGGING to get covered.

You can’t honestly compare an idiotic, pointless, cheap and creatively nauseating concept designed ONLY to get negative heat and publicity that incorporated stimulated rape, bad one-liners and a fucking laugh track all for the express purpose of fulfilling a senile old man’s perverted fantasy to a hour long T&A skit that was essentially just fluff and was designed as silly fluff. It was never meant to be taken seriously.

The very fact you even tried to proclaim a comedy skit themed around T&A was more offensive and stupid then the aforementioned Katie Vick Storyline, the massive idiotic bullshit used to exploit Eddie Guerrero’s death and countless racism angles only shows that you have a absurdly altered perception of reality and the difference in the intent of those respective storylines and segments.

Wait.....wait, did you just say the Katie Vick skit of HHH humping a fake corpse was meaningful?

Is ECW going to be live anymore at all? Why this change?

It's not live because of:

Japan Tour: October 18th - October 19th.

Philippines Tour: October 21st - October 22nd.

European Tour (UK, Ireland, Italy, & Germany): November 8th - November 15th.

European Tour (Portugal, Spain, & Switzerland): December 4th - December 8th.

So when the Strip Poker things gets shown on the ECW rewind or whatever they call it on ecw.com, will it be unedited or will it stil censor the nudity?

Jesus lord have mercy, this Diva Strip Poker deal was WITHOUT A DOUBT, the dumbest, pointless, fucking waste of time segments WWE has done EVER. Between the hype they gave this shit and the amount of time they devoted to it on the show, this has to rank amongst the all time worst segments in pro-wrestling history. Only fucking WWE would mosaic out naked women when they're clearly wearing pasties and flesh colored panties. I really hope UFC destroys this shit in the ratings, even if they weren't head to head, and UFC sucked tonight, but compared to this garbage it might as well have bee Tyson / Holyfield.

Jesus christ dude, other than the Cena crap mixed in there, the strip poker thing wasnt fucking anywhere near what you are describing. They werent going to show spread eagle shots on cable, even if its late night. I wouldnt be surprised to see WWE market this "uncut" on ppv or something though. Or even if they don't, it was what it was and to think it was going to be something more is insane. It was chick's getting half naked with mediocre humor and banter mixed in. Not offensive but nothing to write home about either, it is what it is.

I could think of many other more waste of time segments BTW, there is quite a few here at this article on some of the lamest shitty angles/segments, not just in WWE but the Mae Young hand birth is in here and that has got to take the cake for me.

I doubt that just because they are going to want to make $$$ of showing skin if that is in fact what happened (I couldnt tell if they were wearing shit underneath or not) and I could see this more being directed like a $9.95 ppv akin to Girls Gone Wild, etc, etc. Something like a 30 minute strip poker uncut show or something. I doubt it will happen but it probably would draw a few buys, and they could try to keep the kiddies from being exposed to that "adult" content by doing it this way. Whereas it would be a little tougher to manage that online.

Hell, the real dissapointment of that segment was that they didn't ALL try to tear off each other's clothes (why not the ECW chicks fighting each other, same with the Smackdown ones?) if you ask me. But whatever.

From PWInsider:

There was a lot of talk backstage at last night's taping among the workers about how embarrassing last night's ECW show, which was taped last week, was due to the Strip Poker segments. It's safe to say that there are a lot of people in the company that are less than happy with the creative end of the company right now.

I honestly didnt think the strip poker thing was THAT bad - did anyone feel like it really took away from the in-ring stuff? Other than an occasional side screen of a chick taking off something, I didn't see the big issue.

The only thing that really annoyed me about it was the blatant Cena/Marine namedropping.

NOW people are unhappy with creative?

Anyway, it wasn't that bad. Balls showed his mic skills, the Divas weren't any worse than any of us expected and it didn't take away one match (I mean the number of matches were pretty much the same as any other ECW show).

Even with all of the other women there, I would still have wrecked Trinity first.

"What's up, Balls," as said by Ashley at the beginning of the show, had me laughing for three minutes.

And for those interested, Ultimate Fight Night VII did a 3.1, with Ken/Tito apparently getting a 4.3

I'd like to hold some sense of hope that this would send a message to WWE, but it's Vince... So, probably not.

They should. A breakdown of the numbers:

A 9.7 rating for the fight in males 25-34.

An 8.0 rating for the fight in males 18-34.

Show drew more 18-34 men than any show on broadcast OR cable all day

Highest rating for a night in males 18-34 and 18-49 in Spike history

Broke the spike.tv one-day unique viewers record

Broke the old UFC quarter hour viewership record by 2 million viewers

Show did 4.2 million viewers, crushing Smackdown's CW debut

Fight did 5.7 million viewers, more than watched Raw or Smackdown last week

Vince usually pays attention to numbers, and he should make note of these, but he likely won't.

Or him standing over the divas at the end chanting "ECW ECW ECW" as they fought and stripped....lol.

As much as that had me laughing, he sounded a lot of Foley right there.

Seeing Kelly be "sexy" is like watching a high school girl be sexy. It's weird. She's pretty well the prettiest of the bunch, but looks like a little girl compared to everyone. Oh, and she actually looks like a human being with normal sized tits and a normal jaw. I dunno, it's weird.

That six man tag was good times. Fun stuff, with the crowd popping pretty freaking big for the Originals. Everything else on the show I found meh, with the diva shit mindnumbingly stupid. Ooooh, you're in your bra and panties. Don't you live in those on TV practically? Bah.

Sadly, my friend's TiVo cut off before the end of the program.

What am I saying. I couldn't stand the elementary school porn.

So I wonder if Vince has been forced by the fan-reaction to start allowing ECW Originals get some wins, and not merely use them to get his roid boys over. In the beginning he blamed the ECW-original crowds on fucking up all his plans, but it seems like the ECWWE crowds also prefer the ECW originals. Dare I suggest because they offer something DIFFERENT from Raw/Smackdown!?!

I agree that Kelly usually looks the most normal because of the lack of plastic and the regular face and it's weird because at first Kelly seemed like the typical barbie doll (which, to an extent, still is) but her age (something they keep putting over) has made Kelly really appear younger, which is a good thing. The other diva's are older and are just trashy while Kelly gets over with that HS innocence about her character, as so much that she comes off more of one of the popular girls from HS, who flirts alot but is actually pretty insecure and is probably a virgin (the character, not the actual person). She has a protective bf, who figured out her insecurity and Kelly's need to feel protected keeps her with him. I don't think they have even so much as made any sexual innuendo towards each other.

That's a dynamic that I really like. Unlike Edge/Lita and Nitro/Melina, Knox/Kelly show no physical attraction towards each other, which makes you wonder what is the deal behind them.

In the process of bringing Punk into that deal, they need to explore the history of Kelly and Knox and elaborate on it.

It's scary how the divas are sometimes better characters/actors with clearer character issues then the regular wrestlers.

Kelly, has put over how young she is, "But I'm only 19", her awkward laughing and inital nervousness in front of a crowd while feeling she has to take her clothes off to get attention, is classic indication of an insecure young girl who just wants attention.

It doesn't need to be spelled out. I was describing her character and why it's much more effective then Ashley and the others, who are just trashy girls. There's more subtly in Kelly's character then people like Ashley, Kristal and Trinity.
