Why the WWF has gone to shit

In the past, the WWF has had two things going for them.

1) Old Stars knowing their limitations and retiring gracefully

2) Competition for the old, greedy guys to run to

And now without either, we have everyone hanging around on TV.  I wont laugh at HBK, because a) I mark for him, and b) He's nowhere near as old as Nash, Hogan, Flair, and a lot of others who've laced it up lately. I KNOW he's old, just not as old as a lot of the others.

I really hope the WWE can have this in their future. But the last two "generations" were spurned when a bunch of old guys hit the bricks

The "New Generation," came when Hogan left the first time, when Sgt Slaughter, Randy Savage, and those guys all jumped ship, the WWF finally could bring up Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Ramon, even Taker to some degree.

The "Attitude" era, which I now consider dead and or dying, came when Bret Hart left for WCW, after Nash and Hall were gone, and when HBK had his in-ring retirement.  the WWF could finally bring up Austin, Rock, Triple H.

Now we have the.... "Vinces Ratings" era, which consists of everyone who was a name in the last 10 years minus Bret Hart.  While I miss HBK, and want to see him again, even I realize unless he still "has it," that he oughta go. I loved the original DX stuff, I loved the Hart feuds, but if we have to put up with crap, he's no better than Hogan

I know the WWF tried the "Desire" era, but what they forgot, is they had to PUSH NEW GUYS, you know, the ones who DESIRED to be the champions.

More a rant, and probably stating the very obvious, but geez this is bad.  I know the last two times, it was just as much needing to push new stars as it was wanting to push new stars, but the WWF has to realize that they NEED to push new stars now.

Blah.

I don't see HBK even wrestling at all. He can't do it anymore, and if he did he would be no better than Hogan. Hopefully the same holds true for Nash.

Austin seems to be genuinly interested in making new stars right now. His feud with Benoit/Guererro could do wonders for both guys if done right. Hogan is jobbing when told, it seems, and Angle did his damndest to put over Edge who will no doubt get the same help from Jericho when they feud. Holly and Venus are getting more exposure on Smackdown.

However, I still don't see this truly making new stars. I can't see Benoit or Guererro getting very far with their pushes. Edge doesn't have the longevity to make it on his own. RVD got a mini-feud with Taker and that's no over and done with.

There's a difference between making new stars and feigning it. Venus and Holly are the wrong guys to push, and Edge needs work. RVD is the guy to push, but they won't give him the shot, and the only reason Austin/Eddy is even happening is because Vince is trying to keep Austin happy. Just because Austin wants to work with him doesn't mean the management will want to keep him high on the card afterwards, and so on.

So yeah, I don't see it getting better for a while. Oh well, the fall downward spiral is always a good enough diversion, I guess.

Well I think what I'll have to rely on is my ability to laugh my ass off at something that is so insanely bad its funny.  Kinda like watching the Red Sox fall apart every year

(and I AM from Boston. I'm a WWE fan, but its still hilarious to watch them fall apart too)

I know the last two times, it was just as much needing to push new stars as it was wanting to push new stars, but the WWF has to realize that they NEED to push new stars now.

To be fair, the WWF has pushed quite a few new stars in recent years.  Edge, Eddie Guerrero, Kane, Beniot, Rikishi, Too Cool and the rest of the tag division, Albert, Test, Bradshaw, Spike Dudley, Jeff Hardy, etc.  The problem has been that the pushes have bombed or the star in question was doing quite well but had his push derailed by injury.  It is hard to elevate people who don't stay healthy.

Yes, but how many of them got a dedicated, sustained push such as Edge?

Not many.

And 'push' to me dosen't mean having somebody come out and throw around a little guy, while the announcer shills endlessly. (I'm looking at you, Albert). They know by now that somebody won't get over unless people care about them.

I think the way to solve their problems is easy: mass firings.  Keep the good, take away the bad.  Separate the cream from the crap.

Hot

Rob Van Dam - RVD is way over, and he did it without a monster push from the WWE marketing machine. Can you imagine how HUGE of a star this guy would be if they pushed him like The Rock?

Eddie Guerrero - He's really hit his stride.

Brock Lesnar - Brock is simply awesome to watch. He needs his old music back, though.

Chris Benoit - 'Nuff said.

Kurt Angle - IMO, the best performer in the WWE today. He can get a good match out of ANYBODY.

Edge - Kurt Angle is elevating him to new levels.

nWo - Like it or not, HBK and Kevin Nash are over and this is going to be a formidable heel stable. Kevin Nash did some awesome heel work in the WWE in 1996 and in the early nWo days, HBK did some awesome heel work during the DX days, and nobody in the WWE with the exception of Kurt Angle can draw heel heat like X-Pac.

Not

HHH - I know that people like to blame it on the quad tear; but the truth is that he hasn't had a ***** match since the Last Man Standing with Y2J at Fully Loaded 2000. He had his magical run of MOTY contenders in early to mid-2000, he hasn't had "it" since.

Stone Cold Steve Austin - When was the last time that Austin cut a really good promo? When was the last time that Austin had a really good match? His match with Kurt Angle at SummerSlam, IMO. Notice that diminishing pop? Maybe it's because he hasn't done anything even remotely entertaining since the Alliance days.

Undertaker - His mind-numbing promos generate massive snores and heel heat, but the fans pop whenever he kicks somebody's ass. They need to straighten his character out.

The ©Rock - So he beats Hollywood Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania in one of the biggest matches of all time, he's white-hot...and then he leaves?! Maybe they should have put Austin over Hulk instead...

Hulk Hogan - He's becoming more and more exposed every time that he steps in the ring.

Booker T - What is so great about this guy?! He's got athletic ability, but he hasn't had a really good match since the Best of 7 with Benoit in 1998 for Christ's sake. If they are trying to make him into the next big star based on the reaction that the Spin-a-rooni gets, I have but one name for you...SCOTTY 2 HOTTY.

Booker T was the best thing about the NWO, and he's gold in the skits. Scotty tried to pass the worm off as a finisher and it didn't work, because unlike the people's elbow, he was serious to begin with where the elbow built a huge following before it ever actually won a match. And the spinaroonie is a 'for show' move.
