Don't judge any game by a review...

Rent it and if you like it.. buy it.  If you don't... oh well.

Not exactly...

The people who reviewed Raw was of the X-Box portion of IGN... the people who reviewed WMX8 is of the GC portion of GC... totally different people, but I STILL don't trust IGN's reviews.  I usually stick to Gamespot's and PlanetGamecube's reviews, but when I don't even trust them I'll just rent the damn game to see if I like it.

Gamespot would want you to pay for their review anyways.. I just felt like reading something about the finished product. I won't be getting my copy until Thursday afternoon.

I have the game, do you guys?

Alright, you trust Gamespot, the site that gave No Mercy a 7.7.  They gave X-8 a 7.6.(Gamespot Review)   Face it, it's an average game at best just like Raw and Smackdown.  In fact, this game basically is Smackdown 3.5:Wrestlemania X-8; a slight improvement over Smackdown 3, but not enough to be a sequel.  Plus it has an awful CAW, worse than any other CAW EVER.  It's nothing like No Mercy at all.

IGN can kiss my ass. I used to like that site, but now you have to pay to view a lot of things. I tried to view some of the videos at Gamespot, but I needed a membership there. Maybe they just want people to stop visiting their sites.

Or maybe they want to make money rather than lose it.

You mean to tell me they don't make money with all of the advertisements they have at IGN?

Well, when you hold so much content and you have to pay your writers, even the advertisements don't raise enough money.

The Gamespot review doesnt say much about the CAW, but I've been playing around with the game all day and I liked the CAW in almost every other game better.  It's not as bad as I made it sound the first time there, though.  It's sub-par though.  The AI is very annoying, but it does present a challenge at least, I guess that's good, but not when they cheat to win.

From what I gather from the Gamespot Review:

Negatives

Very little replay value in single player mode (lack of a season mode)

AI is cheap (but since when is AI in a wrestling game not cheap?)

Lack of moves leads to repetition

The sound sucks (although again, in No Mercy, the themes sounded like they we're coming out of a garbage can)

Apparently we've dug up the Acclaim Disease (wrestlers move like they have a steel pole shoved up their ass)

In the middle

The Graphics are a mixture of No Mercy like and Raw like graphics (some blocky textures)

You can edit current wrestler's moves but not their features (other way around in No Mercy)

Positives

Wrestlers are more to scale (Big Show is taller than the Hurricane for instance)

Tons of different modes (one-on-one match, a tag team match, a handicap match, a triple-threat match, a fatal four-way, a battle royal, or a royal rumble) and Stips (normal match, a hardcore match, a steel cage match, a hell-in-the-cell match, a ladder match, a table match, TLC match and iron-man match stips).

Good Multiplayer action.

Longer Entrances complete with graphics (whereas in No Mercy they go about halfway and cutaway to the next wrestler)

Theres a Ref!

Sophisticated reversal system

CAW allows for easy creation of some wrestlers (DDP and HBK are used as examples)

From what I gather, it wont be all that bad, it just is another example of a game that couldnt live up to the hype that it was getting.  Ashame it is that in the delays they couldnt retool the move problem, which is the biggest problem I see with the game. As for how it compares to No Mercy, gameplay wise Im guessing that it falls about 3 miles short.  Graphics wise it obviously beats the pants off No Mercy, and from what I've heard of Wrestlemania (Christian's theme) The themes dont sound as bad as they did in No Mercy.

Unless you can unlock shit... the Create a Wrestler sucks.  It's like Smackdown minus a whole assload of selection.

Anyway, the game isn't that bad.  Probably a game I would rent a couple of times (My friend got it yesterday [Monday]) I would choose RAW over it, but that's only because I'm more of an X-box fan and you can do more then 5 front grapples

I was probably a bit over critical at first, because I've gotten used to my Nintendo system having the good WWF/WCW games.  I was wanting an improved No Mercy so bad that I just automatically thought that it sucked at first.  Now that I've gotten over that, I still think that it's too much like Smackdown for my tastes.  It's still the best current WWE game, with it just ahead of Raw.  I think my Smackdown 3.5:Wrestlemania X8 title could still be used, though.  Not a bad game, but certainly not a very good one.

Just a few Q's..

-Is the CAW seriously as bad as people "say" it is?

-About the grapples, there's 5 from the "ready" position, correct? In the other smackdown games, weren't there also "dizzy" grapples, that you could only do when your opponent is dazed... are these in this game as well? Gamespot mentions something about "secondary grapples" .. just curious. :)

There's 5 front grapples and 5 back grapples.  There's no secondary or dizzy grapple (like with RAW)

The CAW is bad when it comes to actually designing your character... you don't have a whole lot to work with... for example, the only mask is Mankind and there is no face paint.  They have a nice selection of finishers, but they don't have a super selection like No Mercy has.

D'oh, that bites! *Wonders why Gamespot is mentioning "secondary" grapples, then?*

I'm a bit confused as to what secondary grapples are as well.  All I've seen is the 5 front and 5 back grapples.  The game should have been more widely available today, so can anyone else who has it help us out?

The CAW just doesn't have enough stuff to make your own character.  It's very limited.

For the CAW, all I care about is making Eddy Guerrero. Please say you can at least make a fairly accurate version of Latino Heat! *hopes* ;)

Anyone have an exact list of which wrestlers are in the game? I haven't seen any pictures or anything mentioning Eddy, Chavo, Kidman, Rhyno, Spike, DDP, Raven and an array of other mid-carders

I have it.  I can answer some questions if you have them.  It's an ok game.  Some things are bad though.  The CAW is the worst I have ever seen.  Ever.

I am NOT buying this game. The first few pics of it were awesome and showed shades of No Mercy. THQ declaring it would be like the Aki games was also exciting to hear. But reading reviews and posts at Gamefaqs, I'm gonna be renting this time out.

Looks like it's back to Fire Pro for me. Fucking THQ.

I'm pretty certain that the other two you unlock are Keibler and Flair.  This is just by going by in CAW there's a Figure-four... styling and profiling taunt... and a taunt titled... Sexy Keibler.... soooooooooo, yeah.

I don't know what to tell you guys.  After having it for a day, I'm in between on whether or not I should return it.  There's things that are really, really cool (HIAC matches) and things that really, really suck (Royal Rumble matches).

I'll try to give it a little more time, but I hope someone writes THQ, Nintendo, and WWE all at the same time and inform them it's an inferior product.  This game should cost THQ it's damn WWE license.  A LOT of people are returning this game.  I hope that sends a message.
