NBA Roundtable Discussion

Recommended Posts

http://n-c-systems.com/hoops/DraftTrades/2007.html

As of right now, here are the scenarios for the '07 draft. Order is according to team records entering tonight.

Round 1

1. Philadelphia (If Philadelphia makes the playoffs, this pick goes to Golden State, through Atlanta and Dallas. The Hawks acquired the pick in the 4-team trade involving Glenn Robinson, Latrell Sprewell and Keith Van Horn. Dallas acquired the pick in the Walker/Terry deal, and Golden State acquired it via the Dampier trade. I'll go out on a limb and say that the Sixers keep this pick.)

2. Memphis

3. Charlotte

4. Seattle

5. Atlanta (If this pick is not in the top 3, it goes to Phoenix to complete the Joe Johnson trade.)

6. New York (If this pick is from #1-#24, Chicago has the right to swap as part of the Eddy Curry trade. If the pick is from #25-#30, it goes to Utah, via Phoenix. Phoenix acquired the pick in the Stephon Marbury trade, and sent it to Utah in a trade involving Keon Clark and Tom Gugliotta.)

7. Boston

8. LA Clippers

9. NO/OK

10. Toronto (If this pick is not in the top 15, it goes to Charlotte, via Cleveland. Cleveland acquired the pick in exchange for Lamond Murray, and Charlotte got the pick in exchange for Sasha Pavlovic.)

11. Sacramento

12. Miami

13. New Jersey

14. Miami

15. Minnesota (If this pick is not in the top 10, it goes to the Clippers to complete the Sam Cassell trade.)

16. Portland

17. Golden State

18. Washington

19. Indiana (If this pick is not in the top 10, it goes to Atlanta to complete the Al Harrington trade.)

20. Cleveland (If this pick is not in the top 10, it goes to Phoenix, via Boston. Boston acquired the pick in exchange for Jiri Welsch, and Phoenix acquired it in a trade for Brian Grant.)

21. Chicago (This pick would go to the Knicks in the scenario mentioned above.)

22. Houston

23. Denver (This pick goes to Philadelphia as part of the Allen Iverson trade, unless it's the #1 overall pick.)

24. Orlando (If this pick is not in the top 5, it goes to Detroit to complete the Darko Milicic trade.)

25. Detroit

26. LA Lakers

27. Dallas (If this pick is not in the top 7, it goes to Philadelphia, via Golden State and Denver. The Warriors got the pick as part of the aforementioned Dampier trade, Denver got the pick in a trade involving Nikoloz Tskitishvili and Eduardo Najera, and Philadelphia got it in the Iverson trade.)

28. Utah

29. Phoenix

30. San Antonio

Round 2

31. Philadelphia (This pick goes to Minnesota as a result of a trade for Bobby Jones. I don't know him, either.)

32. Memphis (This pick goes to Seattle as a result of a trade for Lawrence Roberts. Ditto above.)

33. Charlotte (If this pick is from #31-#55, it goes to the Lakers in a trade for Jumaine Jones. If it is from #56-#60, it goes to Phoenix in a trade for Jake Voskuhl.)

34. Seattle

35. Atlanta

36. New York (This pick goes to Philadelphia, via Chicago. Chicago got it via the Curry trade, and Philadelphia got it in the Sefolosha/Rodney Carney swap.)

37. Boston (If this pick comes later than Golden State's second round pick, it goes to Chicago, via Denver. This will be explained on #47.)

38. LA Clippers

39. NO/OK

40. Toronto

41. Sacramento (This pick goes to Orlando, via Utah. Utah got the pick in a trade involving Keon Clark, and Orlando got it in the Giricek/DeShawn Stevenson swap.)

42. Miami (This pick goes to Minnesota, via Boston. Boston got it in the trade that landed Walker & Jason Williams in Miami, and Minnesota got it in the trade involving Szczerbiak & Ricky Davis.)

43. New Jersey (This pick goes to Golden State in a trade for Cliff Robinson.)

44. Milwuakee (If this pick comes before Houston's second-round pick, it goes to San Antonio. This will be explained on #52.)

45. Minnesota (This pick goes to Golden State in a trade involving Marc Jackson & Dean Garrett.)

46. Portland

47. Golden State (If this pick comes later than Boston's second round pick, it goes to Chicago, via Phoenix, Boston, and Denver. Phoenix acquired the pick in a trade for Zarko Cabarkapa, Boston acquired it in a trade for Walter McCarty, Denver got it in exchange for Leon Powe, and Chicago got it in the J.R. Smith deal.)

48. Washington

49. Indiana (This pick goes to Portland in a trade involving James White and Alexander Johnson. I should point out that the Pacers made this trade, and then James White didn't even make the goddamn team. So the Blazers basically got three second-round picks free of charge (they get our 2008 second-rounder, as well.))

50. Cleveland (This pick goes to Orlando in the Drew Gooden trade.)

51. Chicago (If this pick is from #31-#51, it goes to Portland in the Thomas/Aldridge swap. If not, the Blazers get it next year.)

52. Houston (If this pick comes before Milwaukee's second-round pick, it goes to San Antonio, via Milwaukee. Milwaukee acquired the pick in a trade involving Mike James & Reece Gaines, and the Spurs got in in exchange for Damir Markota. Otherwise, Milwaukee keeps the pick.)

53. Denver (This pick goes to Chicago. See #47.)

54. Orlando

55. Detroit

56. LA Lakers (This pick goes to Dallas in exchange for J.R. Pinnock.)

57. Dallas

58. Utah

59. Phoenix

60. San Antonio

So Phoenix is basically assured of getting a lottery pick this year. Fantastic.

OK, it's about New Year's. What do your all-star teams look like?

Here are the starters, as of the second returns which came out today.

East

G: Dwyane Wade

G: Vince Carter

F: LeBron James

F: Chris Bosh

C: Shaquille O'Neal

West

G: Kobe Bryant

G: Tracy McGrady

F: Kevin Garnett

F: Tim Duncan

C: Yao Ming

Reserves are 2G, 2F, 1C, and 2 other players of any position. Maybe some injury replacements, if you want, too. Shaq and Bosh are both hurt, although both figure to be back by that time, and there's a good chance Yao won't be able to play, as well. I'll have my teams soon.

Yeah, throw whoever has the highest PPG in the popularity contest. The end.

I only care about the 3-point shootout. I miss the days of specialists like Craig Hodges.

As an Eddy Curry hater, I have to say that he should make the All-Star team. It would be a crime if he didn't make it. Here comes my shitty nickname parade. I got rid of the nicknames because they blew balls.

East

Eddy Curry

Gilbert Arenas

Jason Kidd

Dwight Howard

Jermaine O'Neal

Michael Redd

Antawn Jamison

HM: Okafor

West

Amare

Steve Nash

Allen Iverson

Carlos Boozer

Dirk

Kevin Martin

Zach Randolph

HM: Shawn Marion

Deron Williams and Chris Paul are doing the same things statistically. I can't pick one over the other. Besides, I want to see some new blood from the West. We get the same players in every year. If Rashard Lewis was healthy, I'd put him in over Randolph. But that's life.

East:

Chauncey Billups

Jason Kidd

Jermaine O'Neal

Dwight Howard

Caron Butler

Paul Pierce

IR: Eddy Curry, Joe Johnson, Richard Hamilton, Michael Redd

Dwight Howard should be starting at center and Eddy Curry should replace Shaq on the team.

Seriously, who the hell is voting for Shaq?!?!

They don't have any superstars like the Heat, but they're not so dominant that basically the whole starting lineup has to go, like the old Pistons. So it goes. Though Nocioni probably should get a spot anyway.

I miss the days when the Slam Dunk contest had stars and one attempt per round. I really don't want to see Nate Robinson win this year or another crazy white boy miss 5 dunks in a roll in 30 seconds again.

David Lee goes before Nocioni.

I'm disappointed with the lack of Bulls players.

I figure they deserve to have a representative, but it's hard to single out anyone from their rotation. Deng, Nocioni and Gordon are all having nice seasons, but not all-star ones.

On second thought, I think Richard Hamilton should be making the all-star team. Move Kidd to my IR list. Even though he's putting up triple doubles left and right New Jersey has been pretty bad, and I can't justify them having two all-stars. It's the peoples' fault for voting Carter a starter, but so be it.

The Lakers are going to the Conference Finals. They just have better coaching than the rest of the teams. Write it down and throw it in my face if they don't.

They are good, no doubt, but they aren't beating Phoenix or Dallas in a 7 game series. Unless some injuries come about. They will lose in the second round.

But I personally say we are a good season or two from them being SERIOUS title contenders. If Lamar odem could consistantly defend the 3, they could have a Kobe, Odem, Brown, Bynum starting lineup and that it just too much big and too much talent for any other team in the league.

They could beat Phoenix in a 7 game series. Styles clash and all, but not Dallas. The Lakers can't defend Dallas in the half-court.

I think the Lakers are one player away. Whether or not they get that player within the next two seasons remains to be seen, by trading Odom or someone else. I'd like to move Farmar with some expiring contracts for a good player. One that can play defense, that wears a # close to 100.

I think the best case scenario for the Lakers, out of the big three (Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix), would be to get Phoenix again, honestly. I think if Bynum is able to hold his own against Amare, that's a plenty winnable series for them, though I'd still pick the Suns to win.

I just think Dallas has too many weapons. They obviously can't guard Dirk. If Terry's on, they won't be able to guard him. I don't see them really slowing Howard or even Stackhouse if they go to him, either. Do the Lakers even have a "stopper", so to speak? Or is Smush Parker supposedly it?

As far as the Spurs go, I just think it's funny when people say "they're a year older, they're on the downswing", etc. I've seen no evidence of these guys slowing down, and if not for the Fisher shot and Manu's foul on Dirk last year, I'd be willing to bet that they're going for their fifth straight title right now. I still expect them to win every series until I actually see them lose, honestly.

And thats the problem. Bynum couldn't hold his own again Amare, because if Amare doesn't know how to do anything else, its draw fouls on guys. You see what he did to Dwight Howard. Active defensive players get alot of fouls on Amare because of his hurky jerky moves in the post and he is great at creating contact and getting other bigs in the air.

The Lakers gave them hell in the playoffs last year because of mismatchs all over the court, but this year it would be Amare on a big instead of Diaw on a 7 ft. Brown. Then you have all the rest of the defense shift. into better positions.

So Alf, now that Jermaine O'neil has basically said he wants to get traded....do you feel it will happen.

And does he realize that the only teams with the cap space to take on his salary without breaking a team would probably be the Hawks or The BobCats(who don't need him) while the Hawks need a big man with a post game.

In other words, if he doesn't shut the fuck up, he will be a Hawk.

I guess he expects Walsh to just trade him away for junk. Obviously I don't expect to get equal value for him, but like you said, it's hard to see him winding up in a better situation than the one he's in.

The more time goes by, the more I think that trading Ron Artest was a mistake.

Of what the Lakers have in the cupboard, I'd give 2 1st's, Farmar and Kwame for O'Neal. I'm against trading first round picks unless you get a star, and O'Neal's a star.

I do, but he's a piece that can be used to get good players. I don't want the time with Phil Jackson as the coach to be wasted.
