Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted June 11, 2002 Hey... Zack is now officially even more of the man than before. Fan of '80s stuff (that's my childhood, yo! even if I can't remember it all), my OAOAT partner, and now Full Moon mark? wh00! As for your question on what Full Moon flicks to recommend, you already have Castle Freak, which is probably the "best" (in a traditional sense) Full Moon film. Another ol' skool Full Moon film that's also supposed to be really good is The Pit & The Pendulum (also directed by Stuart Gordon... conincidence?). I actually haven't seen that one, but it's on sale in a video lot with a BUNCH of other ol' skool Full Moon titles in the local "junk store". I'm hoping to go back down there and pick it up soon if it's still in... last time I was there I picked up Puppetmaster II and Puppetmaster III for $7! Post-Paramount, the quality took a bit of a dip. Most agree that the "best" (again, in a traditional sense) films from this period (which again, I haven't seen, but will be receiving soon as part of my recently ordered 10-DVD pack) are The Dead Hate the Living and Retro Puppetmaster. I give my recommendations based on a "traditional sense" of what's good, because though I obviously haven't seen every Full Moon film (there's just SO many, especially since some of the ol' skool ones are pretty hard to come by now), I've only seen two that I legitimately disliked, Prison of the Dead and Curse of the Puppetmaster. Hell, I even liked Killjoy, almost universally loathed by critics and even Full Moon fans (and currently residing at #65 on IMDb's bottom 100 list). For newer Full Moon releases, I'd recommend Blood Dolls (which I really liked a lot, and can't wait to finally own and watch whenever I want as part of the 10-DVD set I ordered) and Ragdoll. How is Horrible Dr. Bones? Do you have it on VHS or DVD? If on DVD, what are the special features, if any?
Guest Report post Posted June 11, 2002 I have always been a fan of Full Moon. I don't like all their stuff, but a lot of it. As for Full Moon discs I own, they are Castle Freak, Puppet Master and The Pit and the Pendulum. Personally, I liked the company Charles Band ran *before* Full Moon, which was called Empire Pictures. He released some very cool movies under that title, such as Re-Animator, From Beyond, Dolls, Prison and Ghost Town. With the exception of Re-Animator, none of those movies are on DVD, and I really wish they were. Maybe one day.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted June 13, 2002 Hey 'Flow, I didn't see this thread until today, so sorry for the delay. The only Full Moon DVD's I own are the Puppet Master boxed set, however at work we have a small selection of Full Moon DVD's. I've heard good things about Castle Freak, which is why I'll probably grab that one next. I'll also get Blood Dolls too, I'm sure I'll like it since I'm a fan of the PM series. The others we carry are: Horrible Dr. Bones (looks like another "urban" attempt, with an all black cast) Vampire Journals The Creeps Head Of The Family and the aforementioned Castle Freak, Blood Dolls, and Puppet Master. I've also got a screener copy of The Vault, which I believe is a Full Moon film. I've never seen Ragdoll or Killjoy yet, but I know someone who I can borrow Killjoy from. So I'll probably grab Castle Freak and Blood Dolls next. Have you (or anyone else for that matter) seen any of the others listed?
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted June 17, 2002 The Vault is indeed another Full Moon film, from their Big City Pictures sub-label. I've never seen it, but it's supposed to be pretty formulaic and nothing special. I've been meaning to at least rent the Lunar Edition DVD though, because it has a bonus film, a remastered Galaxy of the Dinosaurs. I've yet to see the others you've mentioned, but I know what they're all about. I've wanted to see Head of the Family for some time, and for some weird reason The Creeps looks like it could be funny. How much are they where you work? There are some Full Moon DVDs at my local Suncoast for $9.99, and was wondering if this was the MSRP or average price for them throughout the U.S.. Guest One Bad Apple Report post Posted June 21, 2002 I rented Dollman vs. The Demonic Toys from Blockbuster once. It was only a fucking hour, and looked like a lot of clips from previous movies. Maybe it was edited a lot, I dunno. It was cool when the plastic baby was talking about fucking Dollman's female friend.
