DDP retires

Recommended Posts

Guest bob_barron

From Observer-

Page Falkenberg – a k a Diamond Dallas Page – is retiring from wrestling because of neck problems. DDP’s decision came after a meeting Tuesday with Vince McMahon and Greenville, S.C. Essentially, Page felt he was too old (46) to continue wrestling after the lengthy rehabilitation process that corrective surgery would require.

Page, one of the bigger stars in the boom period for World Championship Wrestling, is hoping to continue working in another capacity for WWE.

(Well... now we have new color commentator. DDP would be great for the job. Tazz will be cleaning out his cubicle as of tomorrow morning.)

I want to know what kind of say the City of Greenville had in Page's decision. I think Greenville has played too much of a part in Dallas's choices.

Good, I've been a big fan of DDP throughout his career, and I'm happy to see he's made the smart choice to retire. He doesn't need to risk his health, and potentially end up in a wheelchair. He accomplished so much in WCW, as one of the biggest success stories to become a THREE TIME THREE TIME THREE TIME WCW Champion. He has nothing really left to wrestle for in the WWF, they've essentially buried him from the start, so there's no point in risking his career just to have an occasional match with the Godfather on Velocity. DDP loves the business though, and I'm sure there's no way he won't have some WWE role. Whether it's as an agent, even setting up the rings, but seriously color commentator would be excellent. Hell, they're looking for a new one on Heat, there ya go. I think he'd be perfect for Smackdown though, being that he could make Cole somewhat bearable. Good luck to DDP, and I'm glad to hear he has made the wise choice.

I'd like to see him go back to his manager roots and manage one of the newer guys who needs recognition.

You know, South Carolina's been holding down DDP from day one.

I guess I'll never see the WWE "Best of DDP" DVD now with his whole series with Christian as bonus matches... yeah, I know, but I liked those matches a lot for what they were.

A good wrestler goes out with no fanfare or anything. He'll best be remembered in WWE for getting pinned by Sara Undertaker. I bet she's laughing while eating her oats and, licking her salt-lick tonight. NEIIIIIGHGGHHHH!

No... not DDP... can't sob...

DDP has been my fav since I got started watching wrestling again.  First memory is him sitting in a chair while Sting(?) and someone else circled him, poking at him with a bat.  I remember he would always show up if he was called out, even if he knew he was gonna get killed just to get his shots in.

*sigh*  And Bob friggin' Holly... the stiff arm, still-bitter-over-sparky-plugg jackass...

DDP wouldn't be a bad announcer.  I remember him announcing the Sting/Goldberg match and he did a damn find job at it.  Mike Tenay even shut up.

Long live the Diamond Cutter...

This is pretty crushing. More than the nWo, DDP brought me back to wrestling. I'll miss him a great deal.

I don't blame Hardcore, though. If his style had anything to do with it, it's just par for the course, really. His stiff style is common knowledge, and I don't think he has a disregard for anybody's safety.

Thats so sad, damn Hardcore, damn undertaker as well. DDP was on the verge of sumthin big and it was ruined. Juts for clarification, how many wrestlers who had a similar impact within wrestling have gone out so silently as DDP has. I can think of Dean Malenko and Fit Finley as two. Dusty Rhodes wrestling career came to end i believe, its sad to see him go. Yes, long live the diamond cutter.

I'd like it if on Smackdown DDP came out and thanked the fans for all their support and announced his retirement. Maybe end it with:

You may've seen the last of me as a wrestler but you havent seen the last of D-D-P. And that's not a bad thing, THAT'S a good thing.

It'd just be a nice classy gesture.

When DDP was in WCW, I was a big fan of him. In WWE, his character didn't do anything for me, for Taker killed all what he had left. However, he was one of the hardest working men in the business. No matter what was the case, he gave his all in the ring.

I am reading his book now, and it seems he was always trying to be the best at what he did.

DDP's legacy will live on forever, God bless him.

Damn, I was hoping he'd give it another go, but this is what's best. He would've continued getting buried anyway. Hopefully the WWF will stick him in the Smackdown booth, and move Tazz down to Velocity, or something. Here's to one of my favorites, and a great wrestling success story.

You know i never did like DDP but you could always tell he loved what he was doing and was working his ass off every match. So i always gave him respect on his love for wrestling and the level of working he showed, I just didn't like his character.

I give DDP a ton of credit. He beat the odds when it came to becoming a wrestler, then beat them again to become a credible main eventer. He was always working hard and tried to come up with new things. He didn't get far in WWF but I don't think that was his fault. But that still doesn't cheapen any of his accomplishments.

He deserves to sleep cookie free the rest of his days.

I remember him back when he had been "fired" from WCW and they taped his misfortune as a bum.

I remember watching him become one of their biggest stars and one of my favorites.

Good luck to him and Kimbo.

Sad.

He was definetly one of my all time favorites.  With all of Austin's misfortunes going on, Hogan and the nWo back, and the RVD and HHH wars, I kind of forgot about him.

Sucks that I can't watch him tear it up in the ring a few more times, he busted his ass.  I loved his punches and lariats, and although his moveset really went to shit towards the end, the Cutter dealed the deal.

I'll never forget how hard I marked out when it was revealed he was the stalker.  It was like my prayers were answered.  Then they were trashed. Vince passed up a solid main event worker that really could have drawn as a face.

DDP had programs that would have written themselves.  Undertaker and Kane were his first opponents.  Vs Rock for the People's Champ rights, vs Austin in a Stunner/Cutter feud, or Vs HHH over the title of hardest worker ( of course not now). Not to mention the returning nWo and his history with Booker could have made interesting stories.

But, Vince would rather push Test, Albert and Bob Holly before him. Too bad.

He'll stick around.  I think commentator would be easier for him because he'd be a very active manager and it would keep him from getting used to not stepping in the ring.

Good man, deserves at least his own 20 promo on Smackdown.  I hate he's gone and looking back I hate he was a part of the Alliance because I was robbed of watching his work for a couple of months.

"You love me, you hate me, you'll never forget me!"

" Hey Steiner, I'm still Standin'!"

"That's not a bad thing, That's.......A GOOD thing"

"Get Ready to FEEL THE BANG!"

God Bless you DDP.

??? By the way, is he a playable wrestler in Wrestlemania X-8???

DDP has earned the right to get a Desire video.  We're talking about a former WCW champion.  Have a video for him, then have him come out and cut a promo.  Even the friggin marks could mark out for that one.
