The Decemberists

WON News + Notes , January 15th Issue

Recommended Posts

There has been a lot of very negative talk internally about how the TV shows are presenting the company and the workers. The feeling is TNA can put on much better wrestling than WWE and have that as it's calling card, but because of the way Impact is booked someone watching the show for the first time would have no idea how good likes of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe or Christopher Daniels are because you when you only see 2:00 matches how can you tell?

They are still trying to bring in Chris Jericho, who is yet to either say whether he is or isn't interested.

Konnan's hip replacement surgery was due on 1/8 if he was healthy enough. He's lost 35lbs from the dialysis and dieting since the last TNA TV taping.

TNA contacted Sun Sports, which was the major outlet for the Xplosion show and told them in early December they would no longer be supplying tapes after the end of the year. The show will keep being produced to sell to foreign markets as it's very cheap to make.

The Imapact due for 1/25 will now air on 1/24 at 10pm.

Borash had tickets for Liddell-Ortiz but couldn't go as he had to be at the taping of the VKM skit at the Alamo that day.

What the hell did they expect? Did no one check on the format Russo uses? The wrestling business is so fabulously inept, I love it.

Heyman will be TNA's last hope. Oh how I wish it will happen. Stephanie and the Wwe vs Heyman and TNA could be epic. Of course Wwe isn't letting Heyman go, however I'm betting that he could get out of his contract if he wanted to based on the fact that he isn't being used. He's probably sitting at home writing TNA scripts while on wwe's payroll, while documanting a case to get out of his contract when Russo burns out again or TNA finally realizes that Russo is wrong for their company.

I mean ECW is down 0.5 since Heyman was fired, and I don't think that is a coincidence. Heyman popping up on TNA would probably bring that 0.5 with him which would be a bigger pop to the TNA ratings than Sting, Christian and Angle brought together.

The problem with TNA is that they're paying Angle, Sting and Christian so much money and penny pinching the rest of the talent. With Spike likley paying Sting and Angle's contracts they probably feel that they have say in the direction of the booking and want to see instant ratings increases so the shows have to be hotshotted. How else can you explain Angle's first feud being with Samoa Joe??

Russo will deal with this critcism the same way he usually does; he'll ignore it, refuse to admit his mistakes, and keep writing two-hours of material for a one-hour show. And it's not like TNA are going to remove him from power any time soon. They'll claim they have to give Russo time, but they also don't want to remove him too soon because doing so makes them look like fools for bringing Russo back in the first place. If there is continued negativity about how Impact is written, and there will be because Russo isn't going to change, then TNA will either have to man up and remove him from power or deal with having a very unhappy roster and a TV show that can't get anything over because nothing is given any time.

Who knows? If we can now get Jim Cornette and Vince Russo working together - who is to say we couldn''t have Cornette, Russo and Paul Heyman working creative for TNA? It sounds like too many egos but if TNA would get a two hour slot each of the three could make their own contribution. Cornette can bring a more old school storytelling/psychology to things. Russo could work on character development and the 'shoot' type comedy stuff he does. Heyman establishes personalities, characters, books people long-term strong like he did in ECW and gets new talent over. Heyman would also be a very good on camera face for TNA. Cornette and Heyman are perhaps two of the best minds to come from the past twenty years. Along with Russo they all worked closely with Vince at different points in WWE's past ten years of creative.

No matter how bad the WWE product gets there will need to be a good army built to oppose Vince and we are seeing the beginning of that develop. Guys like 3D, Rhyno, Christian and Kurt Angle going from WWE to TNA. Long time creative 'consultants' and pieces of WWE development like Cornette and Heyman being shitcanned for political reasons and made available to TNA's creative process (possibly in Heyman's case). Next we need a good announcer jump ala Okerlund/Heenan switching teams in the 90's - maybe JR or the King will rejoin old friends in TNA? Then there is the possibility of former world champions like Jericho, RVD, Mysterio or Benoit jumping for the lighter schedule. Throw a two hour TNA on Tuesdays at 9pm against ECW and Wrestling Society X and the heat is on!

Why's there so few notes on TNA this issue? Thanks for posting.

As someone in another topic suggested, TNA needs to try and hire Gabe, as he's in Florida for FIP anyways, right? Or even if he could just work with Cornette for a spell, would be nice. In other words, get rid of Russo.

The scarcity of TNA news isn't helped by their tapings for an entire month all being on one day. The only time we hear anything juicy is after a PPV or TV taping.
