Nick is gonna try and stand with Gomi to prove a point and he'll likely get KO'd.

There's been rumours of Shogun/Overeem II for this card but they seem to have cooled down. Perhaps it was PRIDE realizing that Shogun ass-stomped the pretty boy the first time and that scenario would likely repeat itself.

That fight was closer than people like to remember, at least until Overeem gassed. From what I've heard, this is all but confirmed, but who the hell knows with Pride.

I think Nick Diaz is going to subbed Gomi.

Even though Nick Diaz is the type of guy that will love to stand with fighters to prove somthing, I think he really wants to win this one so he can fight for the title.

Does anyone honestly care about Overeem/Shogun II after Arona put his nuts in Alistair's ass?

Well, to Alistair's credit he did enter his last two fights with existing injuries, and fairly significant ones at that.

Not really, it just looked close because Shogun is 5'9 and Overeem is 6'5 and Shogun wanted to take him down which he struggled with until Alistair gassed. Unless you count the guillotine attempt.

Joachim Hansen (!~~!~!) vs Jason Ireland is on for the show. I'm stoked based on the fact that I've only see one Ireland fight and it was a kick-ass brawl and Hansen always delivers.

When I was in Vegas on Saturday, I saw PRIDE 33 cards all over the place in the casinos. For those that have been there, you know how they have the guys that hand out those prostitute cards. Well, they had those type of cards (but with PRIDE on them instead) on almost every slot machine.

My point is, if the attendance isn't very good, they have nobody to blame. Not even themselves, since the event is well advertised in the city. It just means that they can't draw here.

Wanderlei is more known internationally and has a larger fanbase in the states then Fedor and they managed to do alright with him in the main event. Add in Shogun returning against a quality opponent (as opposed to Randleman) and Vegas regulars like Diaz, Trigg and Danzig along with Gomi's USA debut and I think you've got the makings of a very solid card.

I highly doubt that if attendance is poor PRIDE officials will sit around punching each other for not making nearly enough casino cards.

That means that the cards weren't all I saw. But regardless, I think they'll do well.

So yeah, it's on tonight and it's very, very sad that nobody cares because this card smokes the last two UFC shows. Hansen/Ireland, Gomi/Diaz, Shogun/Overeem and Hendo/Silva should all be great fun.

If you honestly thought the PPV sucked, you have WAY too high of expectations. Or your stupid. Either/or if you think that.

That main event just changed the landscape of PRIDE so fucking unbelievably hard, I can't even begin to formulate thoughts yet.

Best PPV of the year so far.

Whoever they got for the show's PBP, they need to keep him. I thought he was FANTASTIC. He knew his role, and stuck with it. He simply called the action. No hyperbole, no screaming. He did his fucking job and let Trigg & Josh call the intricate stuff.

That was one of the best shows in a long, long time. Like, UFC 58 good. Since about then.

There has never, ever in the history of MMA been a show where three weight classes were seemingly upset up unranked fighters. Sokodjou, Diaz and Henderson just totally turned the Mixed Martial Arts world on its head. Holy fuck what a show.

- Hansen/Ireland was a great choice for the opener as it went at a good pace and showcased Irelands toughness and Hansens awesomeness. Great transitions to the finisher.

- Trigg could even be counted as the fourth biggest upset on this show as he was a fringe top-tenner before the event and took out a definite top 10 fighter in Misaki. Good for Frank but what does that say about what GSP could to to the PRIDE 183 div. :)?

- Wiuff was going to lose, either to Nakamura or the dude who replaced him.

- Holy Fuck #1. I've never, EVER seen a Nog treated like that. It was almost hard to watch. Goddamn Team Quest.

- Damn good fight in Sakurai/Danzig with Sakurai showing that he's got some of the best, if not the best leg kicks in the game. Gully finish to boot.

- Doughy Kharaitonov makes me sad with his limited ground game and sloppy subs.

- SHOGUN. More on this later. But, SHOGUN.

- Holy Fuck #2. Gomi/Diaz rocks our socks off for the first round as we realize that Gomi unquestionably undertrained for this fight and struggles as Diaz jabs him into a serious hurtin'. Balls out shit with Gomi knocking Diaz down and the round finishing with Diaz looking better. Then Gomi plays right into the hands of the Gogoplata and it's buh-bye. The rubber guard is probably the Hot Technique of 2007 so far, if you include Aoki's beauty on NYE.

- Holy Fuck #3. Great, great fight even before the finish but when it happened it was like a bomb had been dropped. This was not the same Wanderlei as the one who killed Sakuraba, Rampage and many others. I don't know what the future holds for him. But I do know what the future holds for Henderson.

SHOGUN. The king is finally stepping up to the throne. Get your quality time in with the belt, Dan.

I've been saying throughout this whole Silva/Chuck shit that Shogun was truly the king of 205 in PRIDE and that that would have been much more intriguing.

I also felt like bumping that thread about making crazy statements, but saying GSP would rock PRIDE's 183 division is not so hard to believe now.

I actually don't know what to believe anymore. For fuck's sake.

Well holy effing shit.

Never seen this many upsets on one card before. Although I did have Silva pegged to lose for whatever reason. I hope it's not a case of Cro Cop just "defeating" him, I wanna see Wandy slaughter more fighters :( Guess Shogun can finally win the title at least.

PRIDE President Nobuyuki Sakikabara said at the post-show press conference that there's a very good chance that on the April 28th PRIDE show in Vegas we'll see Gomi rematch Diaz for the belt.

Then again, PRIDE is supposed to be running a LW Grand Prix later this year so I'm not sure how things will work out. Either way, after two losses and a split decison victory in the last year it's safe to say that Gomi is no longer the #1 ranked LW in the world. Sakurai, Aoki or Melendez would have to take that spot now.

Silva has a tendency now to go half speed against people he really respects as a fighter. Yoshida, Arona, and so on are clear examples. It's once he figures out their flaws, and/or mentally proves to himself they can't beat him that he snaps into killer mode.

The problem was, against Henderson, Silva never had that chance. In regular PRIDE rules, he would have probably gotten a yellow card in the second round (Which he CLEARLY seemed to be trying for. It's his chosen way to get back up. He aims for an inactive yellow card and then goes on the attack) but since PRIDE in the US doesn't do that, and Henderson was clearly trying on top, Silva was unable to get back up. He also was amazingly unable to drop Henderson, despite landing some HEAVY blows. Henderson weathered the storms and then caught him.

Another thing that I noticed, was after Henderson busted out the spinning backfist, Silva seemingly didn't know what the HELL he was doing. Silva's very good at judging what an opponent is going to do, and reacting, but as soon as that backfist came out Silva lost the ability. A spinning backfist from Dan Henderson seemed to momentarily blow his mind, which directly led to Henderson WHACKING him with that left.

I really don't agree with people saying "Silva is done!". He's lost two fights in a row, one to MIRKO CRO COP and one to Dan Henderson. If anything, I'd say Silva's easier to knock out now. Being knocked completely dead by Mirko might have damaged his mythic ability to no-sell damage which if so takes away a huge part of Silva's game. I think he'll be back, but if Shogun wins the title from Henderson (And honestly? After how Henderson fought last night, I'm not entirely sure. Henderson's a tough fucking bastard.) Silva won't ever taste it again.

On other fights, I think it's pretty clear Gomi underestimated Diaz. I think that's Gomi's major character flaw as a fighter. He under-trains for people he clearly thinks he should beat. He did ti for Aurileo, and now he did it for Diaz. On the flipside, this means a big payday for Gomi if he beats Diaz in the rematch. Gomi has to find a way to counter Diaz's reach, because Diaz was racking up insane damage. However, for the few times Gomi would catch Diaz he did alot of damage too. If Gomi can find a way to counter the reach in a boxing fight, I think he'll knock out Diaz. One Gomi punch had the effect of five Diaz punches.

Sokodjou winning wasn't luck. That's the scary part of his win. It wasn't fucking luck. In the thirty seconds that fight went, dude showed off CRISP striking for a judo fighter. He counter punched Nogueria easily, and knocked him flat the fuck out. If he has any stamina, and isn't a flash in the pan, he could be a legit contender in the LHW world, and given what we saw I don't see why he wouldn't be. He was a judo champion which means his takedowns, ground control, and takedown defense are very good, and he showed off amazing striking. Plus, he's an easy sell in Japan. Fantastic look. All they need to do is do something inherently racist with him, and Japan will love him forever. Worked for Bob Sapp and "Donkey Kong" Kevin Randleman.

I just read some translated notes from the press conference post-show.

Sakakibara said that Gomi/Diaz will fight in April, or they may fight in the LW GP which will start in May. Either way looks like title would be on the line.

and he confirmed that Henderson will defend both of his championships. Which is kinda...insane. And said that either Shogun or Silva will be the first challenger for the MW title.

He also says that Silva went in with a huge cold, including a temperature and his tonsils being swollen. However, Silva isn't making excuses for the loss. Apparently as soon as he got to the back, Silva broke down in tears over losing his title, and says it's like a piece of himself is gone now.

Hendo shouldn't have made that crack about Wandy being in the hospital. You done pissed off Shogun and that's probably the worst possible thing you could do. It's not like Shogun didn't want to kill you before but now? Gump is a dead man.
