Guest Report post Posted June 12, 2002 I have no luck at all, my salary requirements aren't high at all and my resume is great for my age, but I live in a small town and there is nothing in my field here. Has anyone had any luck with these sites. I am just wondering, cause a few people I know didn;t get callbacks either, and they are the shit at what they do. Thanks --Rob
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted June 12, 2002 I got my job through a Monster.com posting. When I went to the interview, my boss told me that 948 applied through Monster and she narrowed the field down from 948 to 20 to 15 to 3...to me. So, yes, it is possible. Here's a suggestion. ALWAYS write a cover letter, doesn't matter if its a jobby job at McDonald's. Also, if you can, don't apply through Monster directly. If they include their e-mail address or a phone number, try to send it directly to the contact listed. By the time they'll get around to the Monster ads, someone will have beaten you. Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted June 12, 2002 OK...NYC has a lot of business yes, but at the time, I was unemployed for 4 months after being laid off due to 9/11. NO ONE on EARTH was hiring, especially not in the radio industry, which is what I'm in now. Trust me, job offers definitely weren't falling at my feet. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 12, 2002 I've tried both Monster and Hotjob, and have gotten a grand total of one interview over the past year. They're better than nothing I guess, but definitely worse than everything else.
Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 ok well, anyone hiring an IT Consultant/Systems Admin/Car Reposesor ? ANyone, someone hook me up. I am close to philly/ny/nj. Myabe I can get some interviews on here . Shit, I guess I will have to slum for a bit and repo cars part time while I wait for that job. I don't think computers was the field to get into, I wish I had the capital to start a strip club, sex sells. --Rob
Guest swan Report post Posted June 13, 2002 I got a ton of hits from monster. I do 3-d rendering and drafting for an arch firm. I got hooked up with a headhunter through monster and got a lot of interviews and offers. I ended up taking a job I found on my own through the newspaper want ads though. Hang in there, the computer related job market isn't what it was just a few years ago but when the economy rebounds so will your job offers. Also have others proof read your resume and cover letter, I bet you have a friend that is a word wizard somewhere.
