Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 They have to stop calling it the WWE Undisputed Championship. Now. It's wrong. If it's the unifed WWF and WCW titles, it's just the Undisputed Championship of wrestling. But the WWE Undisputed Championship...that's just ignorant. It's not like Ramon-Michaels in '94 where there's a whole bunch of WWE Champions walking around. And I was watching InVasion, and Internet Darling Michael Cole kept talking about the First-Ever Inaugural Brawl. Let me ask you this: can it be possible to have a second Inaugural Brawl? "Inaugural" means the first in a series of things, so a second Inaugural Brawl would be like a sitcom having two series premieres. One of the writers was probably just looking for phrases they could attitudize and "inaugural ball" came up. But anyway, that match sucked, I wouldn't want a second. I wonder if there's a sign above the writing team's conference room that says "please check your logic at the door."
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted June 13, 2002 Bah. We all know Cole is stupid. And yes, the idea of calling it the WWE Undisputed Title seems a bit silly, but its not really all that earth shattering of importance what they call it. And on a personal note, I think Lance Storm should win the Hardcore title, put a canadian flag on it and call it the Saskatchawan Hardcore International Title again like he did in WCW, you know, cause thats really what it is. Guest Sakura Report post Posted June 13, 2002 Nah, if you want to play semantics the WWE is right about the Undisputed Title. The WCW and WWF Titles were not unifed, it was the WWF Title and The World Title, both of which were WWE titles.
Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 The WCW and WWF Titles were not unifed, it was the WWF Title and The World Title, both of which were WWE titles. Oh, you wanna play hardball, asshole? The World Championship was not a WWF nor WCW title. It was, after all, "simply the World Championship." It was not preceded by a WWF or WCW.
Guest Sakura Report post Posted June 13, 2002 It was owned by the WWF and WWF wrestlers fought over it. It was a WWF title.
Guest Ash Ketchum Report post Posted June 13, 2002 *folds out a lawn chair and sits down in it* Yep, looks like another one of these threads... *pulls out "WWE UNDISPUTED TITLE=CRAP NAME" sign* Personally, I' don't like the name. It semi-makes sense... in a weird sort of way... but basically, they can change it back to the WWE World Championship again.
Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 A bit off topic, but: My favorite "Michael Cole is a clueless idiot" incident also occured at Invasion. It was during the main event when Rhyno was being introduced, the camera gets a shot of Vince looking at Shane and Stephanie and Cole says "...and there's Vince looking across the ring at his ungrateful siblings..." That's almost as good as Vince Russo not being able to grasp the difference between a "half-brother/sister" and a "step-brother/sister" .
Guest Ash Ketchum Report post Posted June 13, 2002 LOL... I missed that... *holds up "STEPH IS THE RESULT OF INBREEDING!" sign*
Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 It was owned by the WWF and WWF wrestlers fought over it. It was a WWF title. It was owned by the NWA and fought over by WCW wrestlers at one point. And in its tenure as the World Championship, The Big Gold Belt was hardly fought over. Rock just kinda sat on it from SurSer to Vengeance. Bottom line, they need to separate the championship and give one half to each brand. Though at this rate, it doesn't look like we're going to have much more of a split anyway. But WCW went out of business and it became a WWE title. Yeah, I think he defended it like once. Still, neither matter. The name still makes sense. Though MC is indeed an idiot. Guest red_file Report post Posted June 13, 2002 If we're playing hardball with semantics, it is possible for something to have more than one inauguration. For example, when a candidate wins a presidential election, said candidate gives an inaugural address to start his term. If the president wins re-election, he gives a second inaugural address to start his second term. Most Puro wrestling promotions don't tour continuosly; they, like a band, go on tour for a bit and then have a break before touring again. Each time they start a tour they have an inaugral event to start the tour. True, each tour can only have one inaugural event, but the promotion can have several inaugural events a year. Often when a government building is opened they have an inaugural ball in its honor (or, at least, this was the historic custom; I'm not sure of its current status). In the event that rennovations were done on the building (as in the case of the White House being torched), a second inaugural ball is held to start the "new" building on the right foot. Back to the point, you are essentially correct in that the WWF were being semantic fools in calling it what they called it, and slightly incorrect in the other assertion. "If it's the Undisputed Championship, what's all the fighting about?" -George Carlin Q.E.D. right there. I think George Carlin holds the record for annoying witty sayings that people clutch as pearls of wisdom. My personal favorite is "Might have brought? I might have brought anything. How 'bout I just grab what I actually did bring?" The undisputed championship one sounds intelligent and witty and typically ends the conversation. Who wants to argue with Carlin? It's a witty comment that makes people smile and nod, but one that doesn't address the question of "is it a good name for a title?"
Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 "Undisputed Champion of the World" sounds a lot more omniscient and is on a much wider scale than "WWE Undisputed Champion." This is the perfect opportunity for those morons to change it.

Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 If those dumbshits just made the match a WarGames instead, we would've had a better pay-per-view and this discussion would never have happened... The Undisputed belt is ugly, by the way. Looks very indy-like.
