I'm watching Smackdown on tape...and When they show the replay of RVD hitting the ***** on Goldust Micheal Cole says:

 

"THE ELAVATION OF ROB VAN DAM!"

 

Does that strike anyone else as funny?

Michael Cole's comment would have been hilarious had he said it as a "semi-shoot," joke between him and Lawler kind of things.  That's the kind of thing WCW used to do when Russo was in charge that made me enjoy them.

 

Cole sucks.  You know who I didn't mind as an announcer?  Stan Lane.  He did commentary on tapes like Wrestlefest '94 I think.  I don't think his voice ever made it to PPV, though.

Someone hasn't been watching their 1995 WWF.  I remember Lawler being put up at the top of the arena in a cage during a Yankem vs. Hart match, and him being scared shitless the whole match, and later have a nosebleed.  So pretty much you'd have a scared, bleeding Lawler and Cole being Cole.

 

Probably better than horny Lawler and Cole being Cole when you think about it.

 

The WWF soon reused this gimmick like twice, once with the Jackyl, and another I believe was something with Chyna, though they may have been handcuffs that were used.
