WCW Clash of the Champions XXIV, Announcers:Tony Schivanne and Jesse Ventura,August 18,1993 From:The Ocean Center in Daytona Beach,Florida

-The show starts off pretty bad when they announce that Brian Pillman "hurt"his leg.The Hollywood Blondes comment on that.They replace Brian Pillman with Stephan Regal for there WCW Tag Team Title Match against the Horsemen.

 

-WCW Tag Team Title Match:The Horsemen(Arn Anderson&Paul Roma)(Challengers)Vs.The Hollywood Blondes(w/Sir Willaim)(Champions):As I said Stephan Regal is filling in for the injured his leg.We begin with Arn Anderson and Steve Austin and they lock up and they go back and forth and neither man can get an advantage.Austin takes the advantage and he begins pounding on Anderson but Arn fights back and he takes the momentum back and Arn with a slingshot to Austin  and Arn is on a role.Anderson and Austin are going at it on the outside and they are back in and Austin tags in Regal and Anderson tags in Paul Roma.Roma is pounding away on Regal.Regal  begins to fight back and with some help from Austin the Hollywood Blondes take the momentum back.Regal tags in Austin and Austin is pounding Roma and Brian Pillman is choking Roma on the ropes,but the referee didn't see it.Austin tags in Regal and Regal is pounding on Roma with a couple of two counts and he tags in Austin.Roma begins to fight back and Roma had the momentum but Austin came back and he is contuing to pound on Roma and Austin tags in Regal,Regal dominates and he tags Austin back in.Austin was pounding on Roma but Roma hit Austin with a Stun Gun.Regal is in but there was in but there was no tag but the ref let it go,Austin and Anderson are now in there and Anderson is pounding on Austin Sir William came on the apron with Brian Pillman's crutch and Austin went to send Anderson into the crutch but Anderson sent Austin into the crutch,Anderson gets the cover,it's over and we have new WCW Tag Team Champions!!!Not bad,**1/2.

 

-Eric Bischoff talks to the new WCW Tag Team Champions,Paul Roma and Arn Anderson!!!

 

-Bobby Eaton Vs.2 Cold Scorpio:Bobby Eaton is filling in for Stephan Regal who filled in for Brian Pillman in the WCW Tag Team Title Match.They lock up and they go back and forth but Eaton takes the early advantage and he pounding on Scorpio.Eaton was pounding on Eaton for a while but Scorpio fights back and he now has the momentum.They go back and forth once again and once again Scorpio has the advantage until he missed a crossbody and Eaton now has the upperhand.Bobby is keeping the pressure on Scorpio's arm but Scorpio is fighting back and Scorpio with a couple of high right manuevers and Scorpio is on a role!!!They are back in and Scorpio still has the momentum but Eaton fought back and Eaton is going up top and he hits with a flying forearm and he gets a two count.Eaton is pounding on Scorpio but Scorpio is trying to fight back and Scorpio hits with a kick and Scorpio goes up top and he hits with a 360 of the top rope,he covers Eaton and he gets the three count.Good match,**1/4.

 

-Mask Vs Norma Gene(Guitar):Maxx Payne(Guitar)Vs.Johnny B.Badd(Mask): Maxx Payne begins pounding on Johnny B.Badd right from the beginning and he continues to dominate the match and Maxx Payne took off .Badd's mask but Johnny B.Badd had another mask on underneath.Maxx Payne is continue to pound on Badd,but Badd almost got a quick three count but Payne kicked out and he continues to pound on Badd,but Payne misses from the middle rope and Badd covers him,he got a three count and he won Norma Gene!!! After the match Jesse talks to Badd and Badd gives his victory speech and he says that three days from WCW Clash of the Champions on WCW Saturday Night he will reveal what his face looks like!!!Not Bad,**.

 

-A Flair For the Gold:Ric Flair is out along with Fifi the Maid.Flair's special guests are Sting and the "British Bulldog"Davey Boy Smith.Sting and Davey Boy are going to announce there mystery partner.Sid and Harlem Heat crash the party before they announce there mystery partner.Their mystery partner is...........the Shockmaster!!!Whoops he fell through the wall!!!He gets his helmet back in time for his Ole Anderson voice to play.So the big suprise was the Shockmaster!!!Jesse Ventura is even making jokes about the Shockmaster!!!

 

-WCW TV Title Match:Ricky Steamboat(Challenger)Vs."Mr.Wonderful"Paul Orndorff(Champion):Michael Buffer is the ring announcer for this match.They lock up and they are going back and forth and they both keep on getting near falls.Neither man is able to get any the advantage.It seems the arena got a lot darker when this match began.Orndorff has the upperhand right now and he is dominating Ricky Steamboat.Orndorff is continuing to keep the pressure on Steamboat.Orndorff sends Steamboat to the outside and on the way back in Steamboat sends Orndorff's head into the turnbuckle and Steamboat now has the upper hand in this match and Steamboat is on a role.They are on the outside again and Steamboat is contininuing to keep the momentum on, Orndorff came back and they are going back and forth and Steamboat hit with a crossbody from the top rope but Orndorff reverses the pin for a two count and Orndorff goes to body slam Steamboat but Steamboat reverses it into a small package and Steamboat gets a three count and he wins the WCW TV Title!!!After the match Orndorff Piledrives Steamboat on the entrance ramp onto the WCW TV Title.Good match **1/2.By the way the arena is bright again.

 

-Eric Bischoff with Harley Race and the Colossal Kongs who are ready for Sting and Ric Flair.

 

-Colossal Kongs(w/Harley Race)Vs.Sting & Ric Flair:Once again.Michael Buffer is once again the ring announcer for this match and I am figuring he will be the ring announcer for the rest of the night.Sting is going wild on the Kong to begin,he body slams both of them and they are both out of there.All four men are in and Sting and Flair are dominating the Kong.Race grabbed Sting but Sting came back and he is now on a role.Sting with the Stinger Splash on Awesome Kong and Flair and Race are going at it on the outside.Sting hits Awesome Kong from the top rope,he cover him and it's over.Nothing much here,DUD.Tony Schivanne talks to Sting and Ric Flair after the match about this match and there match that upcoming Saturday night on WCW Saturday Night,yes,they are talking about the classic match between Sting and Ric Flair on WCW Saturday Night!!!

 

-Rick Rude&The Equalizer Vs.Dustin Rhodes&Mystery Partner:Michael Buffer is not the ring announcer for this match.The mystery partner comes out in a Camero that is will be give out and the mystery partner is Road Warrior Animal,or so we thought,it is actually Road Warrior Hawk!!!Hawk and Rude begin and Hawk has the momentum to begin and Rude is hesitating a bit to lock up with Hawk,but they finally lock up in a Greco Roman Knucklelock.Hawk is pounding on Rude,but Rude tags in The Equalizer.Hawk has the momentum over The Equalizer but The Equalizer fights back,but they both make tags and Rhodes and Rude are in and Rhodes had the momentum at first but Rude fought back and Rude now has the momentum.The Equalizer he still has the momentum and he tags in Rude who dominates the match and then The Equalizer gets tag in and now all four men are in and Hawk is on fire.Hawk hits Rhodes into The Equalizer and Rhodes gets the cover and three count and it's over.Decent Match,*3/4.

 

-They give details on how to win the Camaro that Hawk drove to the ring,I would tell you how to win but the entries had to be in by October 3,1993.

 

-Main Event:WCW Title Match:"British Bulldog"Davey Boy Smith(Challenger)Vs.Big Van Vader(w/Harley Race) (Champion):oh Michael Buffer is back for this match.If Vader gets DQed he not only loses the match but he also loses the WCW Title.They begin by going right at it out on the runway and Vader is pounding on Davey Boy but Davey Boy fights back and he supeplexed Vader on the runway and Davey Boy had the momentum but Vaderb fought back and now Vader is in control of the match.Vader is completing dominating the match and they are now fighting on the outside but Davey Boy now has the momentum and he is taking care of bussiness on the outside and they are back in and Davey Boy is still in control and he gets a two count.Davey Boy is still dominating the match but Vader fights back and now he is in control of the match.Vader is dominating Davey Boy at this point in this one.Vader hit with a Vader Bomb,he covers Davey Boy but he only gets a two count and Davey Boy begins to take control of the match but Vader fights back and he continues to dominate the match. Vader is in control but Davey Boy almost got a quick three count but Vader kicked out.Vader is still in control of the match but Davey Boy is trying to fight back but Vader is still in control of the match.Vader went up top but Davey Boy kicked him off and Davey Boy is now in control of the match and he is dominating the match but Vader fights back and Vader goes up for a Vader Bomb and he hits it,he covers Davey Boy but he only gets a two count.Davey Boy power slammed Vader,but Vader hit the referee by accident the referee is out and Race nails Davey Boy and Vader pins Davey and he gets the three count.Vader retains the WCW Title but after the match Cactus Jack(hWo had been out for a while because Vader Power Bombed him on the concrete)attacks Vader on the runway and they go at it!!!A good match,***.

 

-Bottom Line:This show has a bad reputation because of the Shockmaster's first appearance but other than that everything else is watchable,and if you have never checked out Shockmaster's first appearance I recommended you do just for comedy.

 

-Recommended.

I thought Steamboat-Orndorff was more around ***, but I agree with all of your other ratings.  Besides the Hawk/Dustin tag match.  How you rated that above DUD is beyond me.

One thing you need to think about in your writing is the knowledge of the people reading it.  In these three examples, a less informed reader might wonder 1) why the quotes around "hurt"?  2) why is Badd wearing a mask?  3) Who is The Shockmaster and why do I care?

 

-WCW Tag Team Title Match:The Horsemen(Arn Anderson&Paul Roma)(Challengers)Vs.The Hollywood Blondes

Roma is pounding away on Regal.

 

Regal tags in Austin and Austin is pounding Roma

Austin came back and he is contuing to pound on Roma

 

Anderson is pounding on Austin

 

Thats a whole lot of pounding... Try to mix up your discriptions.  I know there are only so many ways to say guys are hitting each other, but it is still important to mix up the terms to keep the rant from getting repetitive.

 

-WCW TV Title Match:Ricky Steamboat(Challenger Vs."Mr.Wonderful"Paul Orndorff(Champion):

and Steamboat is on a role.

 

He would be on a roll... role's are like the part you got in the school play.  You should always proofread everything a bit before you put your stamp of aproval on it.

Great job as always. BTW, ANY steamboat match is at least **1/2 so his match with orndorff IMO is around ***3/4. i really like that match.

When I use those words like destroying and others it is basically just who is on top at that point,so I say that instead of an armbar into a arm drag.I could go on and on and on so I just use words like that.I thought the Orndorff Vs.Steamboat match was good but I just thought it was **1/2,remember these star rating are based on your opinion so it's all up to you.

Excellent rant Drury. I think you are a much better tape reviewer than Scott Keith. I hte it when Scott refuses to rate certain matches(battle royal for example.). Just to let you know, Tony Schiavone's last name is spelled "Schiavone" not "Schivanne". Also, you goofed up Steven Regal's first name. It's spelled "Steven" not "Stephan".
