Guest HBK16 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 DETROIT! DETROIT! DETROIT! DETROIT! I really don't like them but anyone who beats the Avs is on my good side!
Guest starvenger Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Like I said in the other thread, big ups to the BEST NHL team of 2001-2002, the Detroit Red Wings. Special congrats to Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan for being the 2nd and 3rd NHL players to win the Stanley Cup and Olympic Gold in the same year. Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 I, a diehard Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators fan, who wanted to see Vancouver sweep Detroit, then wanted to see St. Louis beat Detroit, sure as hell wanted to see Colorado beat Detroit, and wanted to see Carolina beat Detroit, will announce: Congratulations Detroit Red Wings! I doubted you all along, now due to a prior bet with a co-worker, must shave my blonde mane and go about my life. Bobby, get the clippers!! Congrats to Robiatalle, as well. Hasek, meh, I think his style is based alot on luck, and think that Roy is the greatest goalie ever, but props to the Wings.
Guest Report post Posted June 14, 2002 This is the greatest moment ever!!!!!! 97 and 98 were amazing, but so many people doubted us this year, said we were too old, said the boys ego's would get in the way, well fuck that, because the greatest dynasty is on top once again. The amazing courage of Stevie Y, the stellar goaltending of Hasek, the spirit that the grind line displayed, the fact that players like Hull and Robitaille put the team before themselves, the 41 year old Larionov scoring key goals, this team had it all, and I dont care what anyone says we are the greatest team and hockey organization in today's game. And I can hear the doubting starting already but get used to it, because I will go on record saying that the Detroit Red Wings will also win the 2003 Stanley Cup, whos gonna stop us, the Leafs? Dream on. LETS GO REDWINGS!!!!!!!
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted June 14, 2002 The only sad thing on this whole dead is that Bowman said this was his last game as a coach...it's a good way to go out though. And it's nice seeing Vlady on the ice...he seems to get physicaly better each time I see him. I was shocked to see Lidstrom getting the Con Smithe...I expected Hasek or Stevie...good choice none the less. And unlike in past finals all the games were pretty close, good hockey. Detroit is local for me...so this is pretty cool, I never get tired of seeing them win the cup.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Lindstrom was a bit of a shock to see to win the Conn Smythe. I though Yzerman, Hasek or even Irbe to win it. But alas, Detroit now with 10 stanley cups, 1 behind toronto.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted June 14, 2002 >But alas, Detroit now with 10 stanley cups, 1 behind toronto. Aaargh, don't remind me... >The only sad thing on this whole dead is that Bowman said this was his last game as a coach...it's a good way to go out though. It's sad to see a guy who's done so much as a coach go out, but he if anyone has earned a retirement, it's Scotty. >I was shocked to see Lidstrom getting the Con Smithe...I expected Hasek or Stevie...good choice none the less. I think there's only one vote from each playoff city or something like that, so it's entirely possible that Lidstrom only got 3 to win. Brendan Shanahan brought up a good point - was Forsberg deserving of winning the Conn Smythe? No question that he was the most valuable for the Avs, and he DID lead all playoff scorers - but they didn't reach the finals.
Guest hockeytown9321 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 The voting for the Conn Smythe was done by 5 Detroit reporters, 5 from Carolina and 7 from the rest of the league. I know most of the Detroit voters thought Lidstrom should get it. He is the type of player you have to watch a lot of to see how great he really is. I'm glad Lidstom got it, he really is the MVP of the Red Wings. The biggest strength of the Red Wings is that they never panic. When they were down 2-0 to Vancouver and 3-2 to Colorado, a lot of people wrote them off, but they just kept working hard. Bowman leaving is too bad, but I know he always talked about wanting to win his last game, so I'm happy he got to do that. Did anybody else in Detroit hear Brett Hull drop a couple F bombs when Bernie was interviewing him?
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Yeah...didn't Hull and someone else say something like "I can't fuckin believe it!"
Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Congratulations to the Wings on another championship...to the Hurricanes for a great run to the finals....to Nick Lidstrom for again showing why he has been the best defenseman in the world for the last 6 years(at least)....to Coach Bowman for an incredible career...to Dominik Hasek,Luc Robitaille,Fredrik Olausson and Steve Duchesne for their first Cup...to Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan for their Cup and Olympic wins.....I wish I could be in Detroit for the parade. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 as a huge colorado fan i shouldn't be too happy with detroit winning but it was hard not to. carolina made one hell of a run this year and it was heartbreaking for them to come that far and lose but detroit was simply unbeatable. i thought the game was rather disappointing and played rather sloppy for a stanley cup finals game, but the end of the game was incredible. i was watching on cbc and as soon as the game ended they spoke with scotty bowman who announced his retirement there first before his team got the cup. it was nice to see nicolas lidstrom win the conn smythe as he played his ass off and was deserving of the award. i got a few tears in my eyes as yzerman picked up the cup and handed it off to scotty and he got to skate around with it first. overall it was a pretty good season for the nhl i think. i hope carolina will still be dominent next year and i hope colorado makes it into the finals. Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted June 15, 2002 It's ok, Dreamer.I, as a Detroit fan, would not generally be glad for Colorado to win a Cup.But to win one for Ray Bourque last year...yeah,I was pulling for the Avs.(Not loudly though and not before the Wings got knocked out)
