Reading/Leeds Festival line up

Recommended Posts

I'm there again this year, making it eight years in a row now.

Looking forward to seeing the Arcade Fire again, I think it would have been better for them to headline the Radio 1 tent though. In previous years I would have said they were about the right size to do that. However, it seems like the level of band it takes to headline that stage has dropped a bit.

I'm excited about seeing a good number of bands that have been announced so far. I'm looking forward to seeing the Carling Stage and Dance Tent line up though. Still, quite a while to wait until they come out.

Not too shabby. I'll be going to Rock en Seine in Paris this year (sleeping in a hotel in Paris at a similar price beats sleeping in a field in Berkshire any day of the week, and the line up is normally good: this year looks to be headlined by Bjork and NIN), but if that wasn't on I'd be there in a sec. The two festivals normally share bands anyway.

The only band I really wanna see on that line-up is Smashing Pumpkins, who I'll be seeing in Barcelona at the start of June, but it's normally the undercard that's great there.

So, what's the word? Are Interpol any good live?

Saw LCD Soundsystem last week in Bristol and they totally blew my expectations away. A fifteen minute rendition of Yeah had me dancing the whole time.

Yes, especially at a festival. I'm impressed with how well their arrangements breathe and spread on a big stage in the open air. I've seen them in both a small club and an amphitheater, and the outdoor set was definitely the best. They're fun when they toss aside a bit of the claustrophobia in their sound and lean towards some of their bigger, almost-arena-rock tendencies.

Who would have guessed? I was saying earlier to a friend that I was a bit disappointed that Interpol were on the main stage instead of one of say headlining one of the smaller stages. Looks like I might have to change my tune.

Its compulsary for me to go to reading fest as its pretty much down the road from my front door.

But i had to miss last year, was too poor and couldnt afford the ticket. First one ive missed since 2000.

Carling Stage has been announced now. Last year I knew who a good amount of the bands were. This year, pssh, all of them give or take a few I have never heard anything by.

As so much of the main stage and Radio One tent is so unappealing I've been trying to track down songs by all of the bands playing the Carling stage. During the gaps between bands I actually care about at least I'll be able to drop in on the Carling stage and know who the hell the band playing is.

I Don't feel too bad about deciding to see Muse at Wembley instead. There's some ok bands this year at Leeds, but it smells a little too indy for me, almost like they flipped through NME and circled every band like a kid with an argos catologue at christmas choosing which toys he wants.

How were Pumpkins? Came across well on TV.

Saw them earlier this year, but I imagine it would have been better in front of Reading's crowd.

They were really good, could have done without all the wanky instrumental improvisations inbetween songs, but the crowd went mental for Bullet With The Butterfly Wings

Really enjoyed the festival suprisingly. It was nice as I had time to breathe this year as there wasn't bands on every second of every day that I needed to watch.

Stand outs for me include:

Eagles of Death Metal - Third time I've seen them in a calander year. Saw them for the first time on Carling stage at the festival last year. Their act got over huge on the main stage. They've got a new album due before next years festival, so wouldn't be suprised to see them again next year.

Gogol Bordello - Again, saw them last year. Their act got over big on the main stage as well. Good for them. One of the most entertainly live bands I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Shame they couldn't crowd surf one of their dancers on a bass drum like last year.

Patrick Wolf - Damn that boy can sing. I like his style too. Magic position was a true delight to hear live.

Datarock - Sooooo good. Took a friend who considers himself punk and spent all day Friday at the Lock Up stage to see them and he couldn't help but love them. Their encore of dancing through the crowd and dancing to 'The Time Of My Life.'

!!! - Oh man can these guys (and girl) put it together live. Their drum set up was probably the craziest I've seen in person.

LCD Soundsystem - This was the shortest set I've seen them play. Their second to last song I didn't even recognise which I thought was odd, being that it was a short set figured they'd do all their known tracks. No sign of 'NY I Love You.' Closed with 'Yeah' Love that track so much, the build is delightful. This was the one act of the weekend that I managed to drag everyone from my campsite along to. None of them were dissapointed even my punk friend who'd never heard them before.

An aside: Allot of my friends associate 'Daft Punk Is Playing at My House' with me. My friend Becca said that she loved getting to dance to it with me and see how much I was loving it. Thought that was quite nice. Towards the end of the set I got shouted at by this girl near me to stop dancing. Thought that was complete bullshit. You don't go see live music and then get angry because someone near you is having a good time.

---------------------

Arcade Fire were a let down for me, probably because seeing them in the tent in 2005 was quite possibly the most perfect musical experience I've had, there was no way they could top it.

This was definatly one of my favourite years in terms of socialisng. Made a ton of new friends which is always good news by me. Still a fair bit of gas canister explosions and tent burnings this year. Sad to see. Such as massive waste and danger. Oh well. I was in Green camp and that always seems to remain fairly safe, well, in comparison to say Yellow or Brown.
