Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Ric Flair. NOT Arn Anderson. Flair is the best speaker in the world. He can still wrestle when the situation calls for it and the fans genuinely care for him. Plus, he's no longer an owner and living vicariously through Benoit would be the perfect role for the Nature Boy. Everyone comes to the conclusion it should be Arn but the reality is Arn is only half the man Flair is and should stay backstage fetchig Flair's coffee like he's done for the past 20 years. Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 I can understand why you say that, but the prevailing reason why I disagree with you is because as great as Flair is as a talker, as a mouthpiece for someone, he'll take the emphasis off them. For example, lets say he cuts a promo for Beniot on Austin. The way Flair talks, with his woo's and catchphrases, the fans will want to see Flair get his ass kicked, not Benoit. Because Arn has always been a right hand man and not a bonafide leader, it makes more sense, in my opinion. Dames
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted June 14, 2002 um, like i said, flair can live vicariously THROUGH benoit. benoit does flair's dirty work. flair can get the matches and angles over in a way arn never could. plus, i have never been impressed with arn's mic work as it is. then, when it comes time for payback, flair can generate the necessary reactions that arn could only dream of doing. why would arn anderson make you care about benoit? it's one midcarder pimping another midcarder. Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Well, thats my opinion so fuck off! *Get it? hehe* I don't doubt that Flair would be able to get the angles over better, however, with Benoit doing Flair's dirty work, the emphasis is put on Flair and his plans and thats not what Benoit needs. As for Arn's talking ability, he did most of the talking for the Horsemen, not Flair. Flair's emphasis during his promos were himself, while Arn got the group over, mic-work wise. Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Arn makes much more sense because he can't defend himself so after he talks shit, he needs someone (Benoit) to back his words, whereas Flair can still put up a good fight.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Arn can still pull out a SPINEBUSTER~! when need be. If Benoit is going to be a machine for someone, he should be more of a greasy little shit. Anderson would work better in a face mentor role.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Anderson, like Flair, had his best days as a heel. His promos were always quite good and could definately get Benoit over.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 14, 2002 um, like i said, flair can live vicariously THROUGH benoit. benoit does flair's dirty work. flair can get the matches and angles over in a way arn never could. That right there makes no sense whatsoever to me. What good would it do in the first place if they made it so the MANAGER was getting all of the heat, in your own words "flair can live vicariously THOUGH benoit"... ...sounds to me like you just want Flair himself to continue going strong, and not really just manage. Benoit doesn't need someone to over shadow him, it's time for BENOIT to be in the spotlight, not over in the corner while his MANAGER takes it all. Ok, you aren't a fan of Arn Anderson's mic work, but like it or not, the majority of fans, insiders, etc... think of AA as one in the business in that department. Arn would be the perfect choice for three reasons... 1) He is a big name that people know and fans are familier with, yet, he wouldn't be in the spotlight. He is big enough to mean something to Benoit, but not big enough to over shadow him, unlike Flair. 2) As said above, he's one of the best at cutting a promo of all time, and could do wonders helping Benoit along. Hell, maybe Benoit could ultimatley learn a thing or two from working with Arn for an extened time. 3) Arn and Benoit already have a history together. Most don't remember it in WWE audiance, but at one time there was an entire angle built around the fact that AA was Benoit's mentor and idel, thus bringing Arn out of retirement. ...so yeah, I'm all for AA/Benoit to be a solid, long term, Main Event team! Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 who should talk for Benoit? nobody. he does well out there. He's not the best, but he gets his points across. Have Flair and Arn coach him before a live segment, have Heyman work with him. I dont think he needs the on-air mouthpiece though.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 I agree with Converge. He did a good job on Raw a few weeks ago on his own.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 oh, and to add in Arn's one of my all time top 5 favorite performers and he can talk. He hasnt been showing it that much lately. Give Arn to someone who really needs it like....well i cant think of a good example right now but there must be one.
Guest Imarkout4chrisdaniels Report post Posted June 14, 2002 I agree that Benoit doesn't need a mouthpiece, but Arn should be his manager. I hated when wrestling went with valets or no one at all. Bring back a few managers. Plus, that gives some of the retired or inactive wrestlers something to do, and it can only help the younger guys. Malenko could bring in a protege, DDP at some point down the line could manage someone, Tommy Dreamer, etc. As stated before in this thread though....make sure the focus is on the wrestler and not the manager. Also, a manager sets up easy turns (face or heel) for the future. All the wrestler has to do is break away from the manager, and it is already in process. Then, the manager finds someone new to take him out, and you have a feud to start the person down their face or heel route.

Yeah, because he has been too busy being pissed on and running away from the big bad heels.
Guest Report post Posted June 14, 2002 Triple H will end up being Benoit's mouthpeice.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 14, 2002 way can't he speak for himself? he's going to have to learn sooner or later, and that's not to say he has no mic skills. he just have tough enough mic skills right now.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted June 15, 2002 I do agree a mouthpiece isn't that pressing an issue. he got over in the wwf easy just by beating the shit out of people. They just didn't have him do it enough.
