Graduation...

Recommended Posts

Guest evenflowDDT

Last night I had my high school graduation, and I know that Sandman9000 and others have recently graduated, so this thread is to let everyone know how that went, whether it was high school or college graduation.  So, to start the thread off...

The Good (besides the obvious leaving school part): I saw a girl from 10th grade who I thought vanished off the face of the earth because I hadn't seen her since.  She was still hot (though few on this board would agree with me on that one), but unfortunately the double-edged sword was that I didn't get a chance to talk to her.  In other good stuff, there was hugs and general good spirit all around, and I went for dinner with my parents and friends at the Olive Garden, and went out for lunch with more of my friends at Marie Calendar's.

The Bad (besides the obvious never seeing anyone who didn't leave their phone number or e-mail in your yearbook again part): I tripped on stage when I went up to get my diploma.  Since my school is kinda ghetto, the graduation took place in the gym and there was a portable stage that we walked across, the kind without solid steps, and I hooked my foot underneath the top step and tripped.  Luckily, only half the people noticed and most of them thought it was planned.  Whew! :P Also, later that night afterward, when some friends and I were driving around, I was in shotgun when the driver hit a hard stop and I went head-first into the dashboard (obviously to make up for catching my fall and not going all the way down on stage).  Luckily again, I wasn't bleeding, and nothing was broken, but my nose still hurts and it's probably bruised.  You can learn a lot from a dummy, buckle your seat belt! The first time I ever didn't buckle my seat belt was the first time I got injured as a result of not buckling my seat belt.

What Now?: In September I'm heading south and enrolling in UC Santa Cruz as a film major.  Until then, I'm slacking off for what could be the last time (is college hard?) and hopefully finding a job.

So... how did everyone else's graduation go?

I didn't go to my graduation. No, I'm not some antisocial punk or cynic, I didn't go because I was in a different time zone. I elected to go to the ASCN Tournament of Champions instead of graduation, because, by my rationalization, I'd rather win a second National Championship than do something that 95% of the adult population of the United States has done.

Oddly, the other senior on our team is right next to me alphabetically, so we were both announced at the same time as contesting the National Title in Chicago. I heard from people in attendance I still got a good pop even though I wasn't there. Had I been there, something outlandish would have been done, believe you me.

EDIT: Oops, forgot to mention. I'm with James Island.

I graduated in 98 and it was cool because my family all came to see me.  Thats a big deal seeing as how they never get together for anything and I'm the black sheep of the family.

Also, some of my closest friends who either graduated already or were a year behind came just to see me *including this girl that I was kickin it to* so that was great.

Congrats graduates.

well i graduated on the 6th, and it was really fun, but because my school is upper-classed, they decide that we wear tuxedos instead of gowns, and we had our ceremony in St. Patricks Cathedral, hate to toot my own horn but...TOOT

Today was my last day of high school EEEEEEEEEEEVER. Damn it felt good.

Next week is my graduation from Pleasantville High School. Finally.

And then from there I'm moving to Toronto to attend college.

It feels so good to graduate.

We do it different here.  My last day of high school is Monday, then I have exams on Thursday, Friday, and Monday.  There's a "prom"-type thing and an after grad party (which I won't be attending), but Commencement (when we'll get our diplomas, awards, etc.) isn't until Thanksgiving in October.

Hopefully (if I can keep a 70% average), I'll be going to Trent University in Peterborough (sp?) next year, studying Geography.

While ol' Zack here graduated a few years ago (98), my girlfriend and one of my best friends graduated last night.  It was a great ceremony, and afterwards I just went over my g/f's to hang out with her family and a lot of our friends.  It was also fun to see a lot of people I don't normally see (which is weird given the small town I live in.)  Next year, my sister graduates (damn I feel old), and if all goes well in college (when I return in the fall, I took a year off to work and save money, which didn't go as well as I had planned, lol.) I'd like to be teaching at my old high school stomping grounds sometime in the next few years.

Right on Zack... even though I don't know her, my best wishes are out to your girlfriend, and about your best friend... I graduated on Thursday night dude, not last night... hehe ;)

Seriously though, it's also cool that you want to be a teacher, as it seems like there is always a shortage of good teachers in our society.

Yep, I'm going to go for a degree in teaching in hopes of becoming an English teacher one day.  It's always been my best subject, and while I originally planned on a journalism major in hopes of a job with a newspaper/magazine, I think I'd much rather teach, and somehow try to keep kids interested in English (I don't think it's as boring as some make it out to be, but to each his own.)

Plus, I used to think I'd go away to college, get a big job, and live in Florida or Cali or something one day, but truth is, I'm content where I'm at, and I'd love to teach in my hometown, hopefully at my own high school one day.  The only thing that bugs me is that my friends will then have a valid reason to say "You never left high school" lol.
