Smackdown Spoilers for 5/11

Recommended Posts

I'm more excited for a spoiled Smackdown then I was for WM.

I really hope for Edge's sake SD get a big rating. I know the ratings will go back down, but for his character it gives him another reason to be a dick head and brag about himself.

They need to protect Edge this time and allow him to really cut loose.

Magical. That's the only way to describe how it felt. Just finished watching the entire segment off of, I think, the Australian feed, and it really is one of those moments that feels like you're watching something special. The Mark Henry attack on Undertaker is a lot more physical than the fancam clips showed, as he rams Undertaker into the steps and the ringpost before hitting the splashes in the ring. Edge gets a great reaction coming out, even though they've dubbed in a lot of boos, as it's obvious the ringside fans and those in the lower decks are going nuts for this; you've got ringsiders slamming their hands in the barricade, chanting Edge's name like crazy. Michael Cole, and JBL at first, are putting this over like something really treacherous, with JBL going, "No, Edge, not like this", and they do an excellent job of putting this over as a cheating, conniving and low down thing to do. Undertaker does a great job of selling the beating, as he's got a bloodied face from the cage match. The reaction after Edge gets the pin is great. Again, you get the booing dubbed in, but that doesn't take away from the fact that everybody was into this, either hating on Edge or cheering him on wildly. Just looking at the crowd you can see them paying total attention to what is going on, and I don't think anyone was leaving their seats. There's a post-match attack by Edge, who returns to the ring and lays out Undertaker with the briefcase, and the final shot is of Edge standing tall, holding up the World title belt and the briefcase. JBL puts it over with something like, "Undertaker's good, but he just got bested by Edge", and Cole is acting outraged, but not in the over the top way you'd think.

I don't know how anyone else will view this whole deal, but to me, it felt like something special was in the air. This could be the start of a really great run for Edge on Smackdown, or a short-term buzz. Either way, they couldn't have done this any better. Thumbs up.

Just downloaded Smackdown!:

AMAZING SHOW

Jillian Vs. Michelle McCool was a GREAT women's match. I usually don't like WWE women's wrestling as it comes off badly.

McCool is so energetic and comes off like a real fighter. Both women executed everything crisply, whipped out some very athletic and (dare I say it) innovative women's offense, had enough time to tell their story, and really delivered.

Great job.

Benoit & Matt Vs. Finley and MVP was pretty good. Benoit's such an awesome wrestler, Finley's unique style was good as always, MVP looked like a "fighter" that was still learning the ropes (but not in a bad way), and Matt was the babyface in peril. I wasn't too happy about the finish, but it was kinda different, so all is well.

So far JBL has come off HORRIBLY in commentary. He's using standard WWE cliches and repeating himself WAY too much.

The New Down on the Farm Tag Team - Their Name is "The Daulton Boys" are AWESOME LOOKING. The tall one is so ugly and it screams to the viewer: "I just slept with my sister". The shorter one is the talker, and he gets the job done.

Uh...Ashley "Live" Interview. She loves Rage Against The Machine. And Kendrick and London are "super supportive" of her. Great. This sucked. The Rage shoutout was weird.

Deuce & Domino's feud with Kendrick & London reminds me of the 1991 mini-feud between The Nasty Boys and The Rockers. You've got the high-glying tag team specialist pretty boys against the leather-jacket, sunglasses clad guys that don't fit into this society. I like what I've seen so far. London is channeling Aries with his giant heel-like fuzzy beard. London pretty much kicks Domino's ass. Cool finish.

I skipped over Kane and Boogey Vs. Regal and Taylor. Regal in this match sucks. Not his type of match to excel in. Kane and Boogey suck in pretty much everything.

CAGE MATCH TIME!

The whole thing is amazing. Watch it.

I think Edge will hold the title for a much longer time this time around and make Smackdown a more interesting show. I can't wait for tonight's show!

My God, Ashley is so horrible in every way. She's either used too much collagen in the lips or too many dicks in her mouth. Either way, something ain't right.

I didn't mind the old Snitsky. His gimmick made me laugh and he had a decent look. Now he's just one big joke of cliches for a big man wrestler.

It still took Edge longer than it took Diesel to win the belt.

Edit: If Kennedy hadn't busted up his arm, would they have hotshotted the belt to an unproven commodity like him? Had him playing up waiting until WM then come out and vulture the busted up champ, or would they have gone ahead and given the belt to someone like a Batista and built to either Kennedy/Batista or waited until UT came back abd win the belt for UT/Kennedy? Or would they gone ahead and had him drop the shot to Edge with the promise of a huge build-up as a face later on for Edge/Kennedy?

Aside from the irritating constant commercials during the main event that whole cage match, Henry attack, and Edge MITB cash in had to be one of the best segments ever to air on Smackdown. I figure the constant commercials during the match set up an uninterrupted last 10-15 mins. however.

God, this is going to be so much better of an angle than Edge cashing it in vs. Cena. For one thing, while people may have thought this was ultra cool you can't deny that tonight this was a dick move. With Cena he'd been in the EC match but let's face it...he'd just beaten friggin Carlito and Masters. Tonight UT had a war with Batista in a cage, then a vicious Mark Henry attack, and THEN Edge cashes it in.

Also, since there's no bullshit with putting the belt back on Cena or HHH demanding a title shot Edge can get an actual run with the belt. Think of all the money they practically stumbled into this week: Kennedy when he gets back will come gunning for Edge, they can revive the Edge/Matt feud, Batista will want a shot, Rey can face his old tag partner for the title when he gets back, Benoit can renew hostilities with Edge after the MVP feud, and of course (are we paying attention?) the uber money that will be drawn when UT gets back and wants to kill Edge dead. Barring serious injury that should be the WM main event next year.

Smackdown right now is in so much better shape than Raw it's not even funny.

Damn, spoilers really do ruin the excitement. Shown live would have been much more effective, but I'm sure the rating will be higher then ever this week.

I think knowing the spoilers made me enjoy it more. I actually watched the show instead of skimming through the DVR as I usually do with SD.

What ever works for you. I watched Edge win his first title live at NYR 06 so it's going to hard to top that.

Man, Henry was throwing some of the weakest-looking punches EVER at 'Taker before Edge came out. I enjoyed the title change though. You dont see too many of those on free TV.

Oh, make no mistake I loved Edge's NYR 06 Pearl Harbor MITB cash in too. But that's the thing...we aren't supposed to love it. We're supposed to despise him for it. The difference is that this time he did it to UT, and before it was Cena. Cena was already stale and getting booed by a lot of people who were desperate to see him job the belt, so Edge ended up with quite a few supporters. UT is much more over and people were just getting into his title run before the injury, so it can be played like Edge ruined Taker's last hurrah title run.

Much like at NYR, tonight, it was once again Edge who sold this the hardest.

No one in WWE sells being champion like Edge does. I don't know if anyone EVER has. To him, it's everything. He'll turn on anyone. He'll do anything. As long as at the end of the day he can hold the championship, then it doesn't matter. The end justifies the means if at the end, he holds a world championship.

At NYR, Edge looked like almost broke down in joy.

Tonight, he began to scream "I EARNED IT! IT'S MINE!" as if he was proving that he was worthy of holding the championship.

He caressed the belt, he kissed it, he stared at it in joy...JBL really put it best, "Edge is in love with being champion"

Fucking fantastic.

That was good use of editing to make absolutely sure that viewers at home saw both guys hitting at the same time.

They needed a tighter shot of Undertaker for it to work, since you can clearly see Batista land after him in the background.

The subtle glance between Edge and Henry was a nice touch. Also, his punches were just fine.

Yeah, knowing what was gonna happen made it feel weird. That being said, I have to agree with the poster who said Edge sold the win amazingly. He was brilliant.

In regards to the ratings, I don't buy the logic that spoilers boost numbers. I could be proven totally wrong, but I think Smackdown will get round about the same it usually does(in the 2s). The whole spoiler situation this week was stupid. I'm not a big fan of excessive Kayfabe, (i.e. keeping in character outside of shows, refering to angles as real during interviews with newspapers etc) but any promotion giving away results before a wrestling show has aired is crossing the line.

Spoilers should be left to the IWC. That way, people can choose whether or not to read them. On a wrestling show, (le.g. the scrolling information at the bottom of the screen on ECW) you can't avoid it.

The question is, what do they do with Henry if 'Taker is going to be on the shelf for a while?

Well, he was set to feud with Batista when Big Dave returned last year, since Henry was the one who injured him and all. However, Henry himself got injured before the scheduled PPV match could take place.

The subtle glance between Edge and Henry was a nice tough. Also, his punches were just fine.

The original shot looked very close, and it is hindered just because of Taker's lankier body compared to Batista's shorter and more muscular build. When they replayed it, that was the editing I was talking about. That is the shot they'll replay for all their video packages. Also, I had totally forgot about the Henry beatdown in the spoilers until it happened AND I was kinda wondering why he wasn't going after both guys and not just the Undertaker. I mean, it helped, but I am sure Edge could have sufficiently decimated Taker with ease given his demeanor as he came out.
