Guest Report post Posted June 15, 2002 The Superstar Rant: Royal Rumble 2000 (DVD) Live from Madison Square Garden, New York City -An awesome promo video to start, where Cactus talks about HHH, HHH talks about Cactus Jack, and then they talk about themselves. Clips of Cactus in Japan, The Cactus/HHH fight from 1997, and some of Cactus holding the WWF title. -PYROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler -Opening Match: Kurt Angle vs. ??- Angle was undefeated, his mic skills needed work (although they were good), and he looks goofy. He cuts a promo about the Knicks, and his mystery opponent. The crowd is already chanting “We Want Tazz.” Tazz gets an amazing pop, and he’s wearing an “Ultra Cool Towel” (tm Treble Charged). Tazz beats on Angle to start. Angle reverses a whip, but gets back dropped over the top rope. Tazz goes for a vertical suplex on Angle on the entry way, but Angle escapes and gets his own. Angle puts Tazz back in the ring, Irish whip, and a cross body block gets two. Tazz goes into the corner, and Angle gives him a foot choke, followed by a belly-to-belly overhead suplex. Angle goes up top (?) but Tazz crotches him, and gets a head-arm Tazz Superplex! But Angle gets his foot on the ropes. The crowd (and Tazz) thinks that was it. Angle gets a small package for two. German suplex by Angle with a bridge gets two. Angle goes for the Olympic Slam, but Tazz gets a HUGE German suplex, Head and Arm Tazzplex, and a T-Bone Tazzplex. Tazzmission! Angle is almost out. Arm drops once, twice, but the ref notices Angle is out cold, and stops the match. Tazz wins by KO in 3:14! **1/4 Post match, Angle gets the stretcher job. Lawler says Angle is still undefeated because Tazz used an illegal choke. -Michael Cole stands with the Hardy Boys and Terri. They talk about the Tag Team Table Match. Let us take you back to RAW when Bubba Ray superbombed Matt through Jeff through a table. On Smackdown, Matt legdropped Bubba and D-Von through a table off the stage. Jeff doesn’t let Terri out for the match. -WWF Home Video exclusive footage is Tazz commenting on choking out Angle. -Tag Team Table Match: The Dudley Boys vs. The Hardy Boys- To win, the team must drive their opponents consecutively through a table. Bubba still had the stuttering problem. He cuts another anti-NYC promo, well sorta. Oh wait, John Rocker. Oh THAT was going on back then. D-Von says they should elect John Rocker as their mayor. They brawl to start, Bubba whips Jeff, Jeff reverses Bubba gets the Bubba Bomb (before it was named). Bubba gets a table early. D-Von sets it up, Bubba tries to back drop Jeff through the table, but Matt moves the table, and DDTs Bubba. Jeff gets a slingshot somersault plancha (sorry I’m not good with those move names) on Bubba to the outside. Whoa. Matt sets up the table again inside the ring, and goes for a back drop on D-Von, D-Von reverses and tries a powerbomb, Matt escapes, but D-Von gets a vertical suplex. Outside, Jeff with a wicked chair shot on Bubba. Jeff goes for the “run on the guardrail” thing, but Bubba holds the table up and Jeff runs into it! Sweet! Now D-Von works on Jeff and Bubba works on Matt. Bubba puts Matt on the table, DON’T TRY THE SENTON! No, Matt gets up, Hardys with a DOUBLE SUPERPLEX, but D-Von moves the table. Matt gets a ladder. Uh oh. The Dudleys get a ladder to the gut, D-Von gets it in the face, and Bubba goes over the top via the ladder. Bubba gets a chairshot from Matt, and Matt sets up a table. Another sick chairshot by Matt on Bubba. Bubba is set up on the table, and Matt sets up the ladder, but D-Von climbs up too. D-Von falls off, oh no, the Hardys with the LEG DROP/SPLASH COMBO on BUBBA THROUGH A TABLE! Matt went off the ladder, Jeff went off the top rope. D-Von gets a chairshot. The Hardys make a weird setup with the ring steps and a table. Jeff puts D-Von on the table, and Matt gives D-Von a chairshot. However, D-Von moves and they both go through tables! It doesn’t count because the Dudleys didn’t put them through tables. Bubba puts the ring steps in the ring. They set up another table placed on top of the ring steps. They go for the SUPER BOMB, and it hits! MATT GOT SUPERBOMBED THROUGH THE TABLE! Now either D-Von or Jeff have to go through a table. Now they’re fighting through the crowd. Bubba has a chair, CHAIRSHOT on Matt. Man, these are SICK. Bubba sets up another table, near one of the exits. Wait, he sets up another table ON TOP of the other one. D-Von has been working over the Hardys. ANOTHER TABLE. Matt is set up on the table, but Jeff with a chairshot on D-Von, but Bubba gets a chairshot on Jeff and leads him up on the exit balcony (over the tables.) Bubba goes for the senton, but Jeff with a chairshot, another, BUBBA FALLS THROUGH THE TABLES! However, Hardys don’t win because Bubba already went through one. Jeff on the balcony, SWANTON BOMB OFF THE BALCONY ON D-VON THROUGH THE TABLE~! Hardys win the Table match at 10:15! ***3/4 I can’t in good conscience give it **** because aside from the high spots, the only moves were brawling and chair shots. -Backstage, Kurt Angle is getting checked out by EMTs. “If he choked me out I’m still undefeated.” He was totally out of it. Heh. The announcers discuss this. -Miss Rumble 2000 Bikini Contest: Ivory, Terri, Jacqueline, B.B., Luna, The Kat- Your judges are Sgt. Slaughter, Tony Garea, Fabulous Moolah, Johnny V., CLASSY FREDDY BLASSIE! Lawler is our ‘master of ceremonies.’ Oh boy. Lawler comments on all of the participants as they enter the ring. Another one of the judges is Andy Richter. Ivory is reluctant, and she has a pretty nice teal bikini, **3/4. Terri has a skin-colored AWESOME thing, and this was before she was 90 pounds. ***1/4. Jacqueline has the same thing from Fully Loaded 1998, which is pretty nice. **1/4. B.B. has a nice blue/pink one, **1/2. Luna doesn’t want to show her bikini, which is probably a good thing. The Kat has…BUBBLE WRAP~! Oh man, ***3/4. Oh wait, Mae Young’s music plays. Oh no. She always looks drunk when she talks on the microphone. She says we’re going to see her puppies. She rubs her robe in her crotch. OH NO, NO, DON’T TAKE IT OFF, NO, NO, NO! THANKFULLY, the censored sign covers it up, OH NO I SAW THEM! Oh my eyes, my eyes. Slaughter has the winner, and it’s a unanimous decision, MAE YOUNG. I SAW THEM AGAIN! AHHH! Thankfully, Mark Henry covers her up. -At WWF New York, where The Coach is hanging out. It just opened a few days ago. -Jericho and Chyna argue about who should wear the title to the ring (they were co-champions). -Home Video exclusive footage with Kurt Angle. He remains undefeated, since he was choked out. -Undisputed Intercontinental Championship: Hardcore Holly vs. Chyna © vs. Chris Jericho ©- Jericho cuts a promo, saying when he wins the title, NYC will throw a party bigger than the millennium bash. Hardcore piefaces Chyna, and Jericho gets a hiptoss. Slapfest between the three. Chyna beats on Holly in the corner, but Holly reverses a whip and CHYNA FLIP~! Holly gets a shoulder block, Jericho leapfrog, BEST DROPKICK IN THE BUSINESS. Holly Irish whip, but Jericho gets the Flying Jalepeno for two. Chopfest now. Jericho reverses a cross corner whip but Holly gets a boot up, he tries a hurracanrana but Jericho gets the Walls of Jericho. Chyna breaks it up to huge boos. Chyna Irish whip and she gets a back elbow, and Holly gets one before Chyna breaks it up. Chyna clotheslines Holly over the top rope, Jericho Irish whip, Chyna reverses, Holly grabs Jericho’s foot, but Chyna with a baseball slide on Holly. Jericho with a flying bodypress on Holly from the top. Chyna puts Jericho’s face into the steps, back in the ring, OH NO NOT CHYNA’S HANDSPRING ELBOW, and Chyna gets a DDT for two before Holly breaks it up. Chyna goes out via Holly. Holly Irish whip, Chyna lowers the rope and Jericho goes over. They’re on the outside now, Hardcore has a chair, and he goes to hit Chyna, but Jericho stops him, Chyna (sorta) dropkicks Holly. Holly back in and Chyna (and Jericho) goes up top, They both hit splashes (Jericho on top), but they let go at two. Oh I get it, co-champions. HAHA. Chyna Irish whip, Jericho tries a belly-to-back, but Chyna flips out and gets a low blow. Chyna with the Pedigree on Holly, but Hardcore kicks out! That was close. Chyna goes up top (!), but Holly gets her in the chicken fight position, Jericho’s up top, DOOMSDAY DEVICE~! Well not really, because Jericho gets a cross body on Chyna for two. Holly with a kick to Jericho, and HE goes up top. Jericho stops him, and goes for a superplex, but Chyna crotches both of them. Now Chyna with a superplex for two. Chyna gets a steel chair, and hits Holly with it behind the ref’s back. Chyna with the Walls of Jericho to huge boos. However, Jericho gets the facebuster, LIONSAULT ON CHYNA! 1, 2, 3!! Jericho is the LARGER THAN LIFE, LIVING LEGEND, UNDISPUTED, err, Intercontinental Champion at 7:30. Good match. **1/2 -Backstage, Cole stands with The Rock. Wow, Cole had a lot of hair. Rock says he’s concerned about two guys in the Royal Rumble: Crash Holly and Headbanger Mosh. Heh. If he can get by those two, he MIGHT have a shot at winning the Royal Rumble. I think the Rock debuts one of his only failed catchphrases, “Shut-up Juice.” Rock cuts a promo on Big Show. -Exclusive Footage: Chris Jericho says this match was draining and physical match. But he is the UNDISPUTED INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION. -Video package on the tag match between the New Age Outlaws and the Acolytes. -Tag Team Championship: New Age Outlaws © vs. Acolytes- You know, I never understood why Road Dogg still did his spiel, even though they were heels (or, SUPPOSED TO BE.) They brawl outside to start, Dogg goes into the post and Billy goes into the steps. Inside, Bradshaw reverses a whip, Billy leapfrog, dropkick by Billy doesn’t even knock Bradshaw down, Billy goes for a crossbody but DUH, it’s the FALL AWAY SLAM. Dogg tries to run in but gets booted before Bradshaw does his move. Dogg goes into the turnbuckle, tag to Faarooq. Cross corner whip, Dogg gets a boot up, but a Faarooq powerslam, and he taunts Road Dogg with the shaky-legs thing. He tries the Dominator on Dogg, but Billy runs in, but the Outlaws get double-clotheslined. Dogg with the funky punches, he goes for the Shaky Legs kneedrop but Bradshaw stops him, Billy comes in too, Billy tries a Stinger Splash on Bradshaw, he moves, and it’s the BAH GAWD CLOTHESLINE FROM DEEP IN THE DEPTHS OF HELL. Faarooq with the spinebuster on Dogg, but Billy pulls the ref out at two. Bradshaw takes out Billy, and we have a ref bump, TWO MINUTES INTO THE MATCH. Acolytes Double Powerbomb, but X-Pac runs in, spinning heel kick to Bradshaw, but he gets a spinebuster from Faarooq. Billy with the Fameasser on Bradshaw, NEITHER MAN IS LEGAL, but the ref counts anyway. 1, 2, 3, Outlaws win and retain at 2:39. *1/4. Too short. -Exclusive Footage: Road Dogg rhymes. -Video package is shown for the Cactus/HHH Street Fight, including Mankind losing the “Pink Slip on a Pole” match, the “Have a Bad Day” vignettes, HHH winning the title from Big Show, and Mankind morphing into Cactus Jack, among other things. -WWF Championship Street Fight: Cactus Jack vs. Triple H ©- Stephanie accompanies Triple H, but leaves before the match starts. Slugfest to start, and HHH goes into a turnbuckle. Jack goes into one, and HHH with punches in the corner, but Jack rebounds with a punch that knocks HHH down. HHH is back in the corner, and Cactus with punches in bunches. They go outside, and Jack gets a swinging neckbreaker. HHH tries to come in the ring, and Jack leg drops him as he comes in, knocking HHH outside again. Jack puts H’s head into the ring steps, and onto the ring bell table, but HHH hits Jack with the ring bell. H puts a chair in the ring and they go back inside. HHH has the chair, and Jack takes a WICKED chair shot. DAMN. Triple H tries to undo the turnbuckle pad, but Jack is up and gets a clothesline, and some punches. Jack has the chair, and Cactus with a LEGDROP, on the chair, on H’s FACE! 1-2 NO! Jack assaults HHH with more punches, and stomps. They head back to the outside again, and HHH regains the advantage. Jack goes into the barrier, but as HHH charges, he gets back dropped into the crowd. They brawl into the crowd for a little bit, and they’re in the entryway. HHH goes into a stack of bricks, and Jack sets up two wooden pallets. Jack with a VERTICAL SUPLEX ON THE WOODEN PALLETS. This is the part where HHH gets ‘stabbed’ in the calf, so he starts bleeding from there. Jack with a trashcan shot. Jack whips HHH into the metal entryway, twice, and runs H’s head into it. However, HHH comes back with a suplex on the trashcan. Jack regains the advantage and HHH goes into the ring steps. More forearms by Cactus, he rams the knee into H’s face, who was leaning against the ring steps. Jack with the BARBED WIRE 2x4~! Back inside the ring, finally. Jack goes for a shot, but HHH gets a low blow and takes the weapon, and Jack takes a shot in the midsection, and to the back. Another to the midsection, and another to the back. It gets caught on Jack’s back. Ok, OUCH. Jack gets a shot to the midsection, and Jack takes the 2x4 and gives HHH a low blow with it! Hebner takes the 2x4 away, and Jack with the DOUBLE ARM DDT! Hebner was giving the 2x4 to the Spanish announcers, back in the ring, 1-2 NO! Jack: “WHERE’S THE FUCKING BAT?!” Jack beats up the Spanish announcers and gets the 2x4. Back inside the ring, he goes for a swing but the ref stops him, HHH charges, HHH hits Hebner, JACK WITH A 2x4 SHOT IN THE FACE! ELBOWDROP WITH THE WEAPON! Cover, 1-2 NO! HHH is busted open. Another SHOT TO THE FACE! Jack takes the 2x4 and RAKES IT ON HHH’S FACE! H is wearing the crimson mask. Outside the ring, Jack with forearms and shots to the face, and rams HHH into the English announce table. They’re on top of the table, going for a pulling PILEDRIVER, no, BACKDROP ON THE ANNOUNCE TABLE, AND IT DOESN’T BREAK! “Foley” chant. Back inside the ring. HHH goes for the Pedigree, no, Jack with a catapult and HHH goes into the corner. Jack with a face crusher on THE BARBED WIRE 2x4! 1-2 NO! Jack with the CACTUS CLOTHESLINE. Jack charges at HHH, but he gets a hiptoss/throw, Jack’s knee hits the ring steps! HHH with a whip to Jack into the ring steps, and Jack tumbles over them! He hit knee first. HHH with a chop block. Back inside the ring, H with another chop block. TRIPLE H WITH A BARBED WIRE 2x4 SHOT ON JACK’S KNEE, TWICE! HHH goes outside and gets handcuffs. Remember last year at the Royal Rumble?! Jack is handcuffed on one arm. He uses them as a weapon, but HHH kicks Cactus in the knee and handcuffs him for real. HHH punches a defenseless Cactus Jack, and goes outside to get the ring steps. Inside the ring, he charges with the steps, but JACK WITH A DROP TOE HOLD! Jack gets a boot up on a corner charge, and elbows H’s crotch! Now he bits Triple H’s face. That’s gross, considering H’s face is covered in blood. HHH gets a clothesline, however. HHH has a chair, chairshot to the midsection and to the back, which breaks the chair, again to the back, and Jack falls out of the ring. They head to the entryway, but HHH with another chairshot to the head. Jack asks for another chairshot, but THE ROCK comes out and LAYS OUT HHH WITH HIS OWN CHAIR! Now a cop comes out and unlocks the handcuffs. That’s kinda original. Back by the ringside area, HHH goes onto the Spanish Announce Table. Jack with the PULLING PILEDRIVER ON THE ANNOUNCE TABLE, AND IT DIDN’T BREAK! Jack looks under the ring, and PULLS OUT A BAG. I wonder what’s inside. Remember KOTR 98? That’s right, THUMBTACKS. It’s about to get a lot worse. Wait, here’s Stephanie. This distracts Jack, but he’s right back on HHH. Jack charges, but gets BACKDROPPED INTO THE THUMBTACKS. He rolls in them, Heh. KICK WHAM PEDIGREE! 1-2- NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How close was that? The crowd erupts. “Foley” chant. However, Jack walks right into another KICK WHAM PEDIGREE, on the THUMBTACKS! 1-2-3!!!! Triple H retains the title at 27:51. Is there any question what this match gets? ***** One of the best matches I’ve ever seen. HHH does a stretcher job. But wait, Jack’s after him, he takes control of the stretcher! He brings it back to the ring, and takes the BARBED WIRE 2x4! HHH TAKES ANOTHER SHOT TO THE FACE! -Back to the Coach at WWF New York. Coach stands with Linda McMahon, about the McMahon-Helmsley Era. BOOOOORRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGG. -THE ROYAL RUMBLE: Intervals are 90 seconds, which is tolerable, although I like two minutes. Here’s a replay of Royal Rumble 1995, where ONLY one of HBK’s feet hit the floor. Poor Bulldog. #1 is D’Lo Brown, and #2 is Grandmaster Sexay. They always say #1 has the worst luck, but what about #2? Anyway, Sexay gets a dropkick after nothing of note. I’m not going to go blow-for-blow because it is a hour long match, after all. D’Lo goes for the INFAMOUS RUNNING POWERBOMB, but Sexay gets a hurracanrana. Nothing else of note happens until we get #3, Headbanger Mosh. Oh yay. He has that fuzzy cone bra. Kaientai runs in for comic relief, but both get ‘eliminated’ easily. Mosh gets a RUNNING BUTT BUTT on both Sexay and D’Lo. Ross talks about the Headbanger’s “alternative lifestyle.” Sexay with the infamous Bulldog to D’Lo, which lands RIGHTON MOSH’S ANKLE. #4 is Christian, with some generic music. Christian gets a reverse DDT on Mosh. Sexay gets a nice back suplex on Christian. #5 is RIKISHI! He was really over at this point. Superkick on Mosh, and Mosh is gone. Belly to belly on Christian, and Christian is gone. Rikishi no-sells the D’Lo leg drop, and a RIKISHI DRIVER! D’Lo is gone. Now it’s just Rikishi and Grandmaster Sexay. #6 is of course, Scotty II Hotty. OMG THEY DANCE! THEY ARE JUST TOO COOL! WORM! Out of nowhere, Rikishi eliminates Grandmaster and Scotty. But they do their handshake and Rikishi says it’s just business. #7 is Steve Blackman. OH YAY. How exciting. Blackman just kicks Rikishi a lot. Announcers try to put over Blackman but it ain’t working. RIKISHI DRIVER on Blackman, and he’s gone. #8 is KING MABEL. I mean, Viscera. The total weight in the ring is almost 1000 lbs. They shake the ring on a Viscera Belly to Belly suplex. They MOVE the ring on a Viscera corner avalanche, and another one, no Rikishi moves, and superkick, another, another, and Viscera is gone. #9 is Big Bossman. He does the Triple H “pour water on myself” thing, and stalls outside the ring until we get #10, Test. They’re all in the ring, finally. Test chokes Rikishi and we have a low blow fest as Bossman hits Test and Rikishi hits Bossman. #11 is British Bulldog. Unfortunately, this was his low point, as he was really deteriorated. They do that stupid “I’m trying to eliminate you but just hang onto the ropes” spot. Nothing else interesting until #12, Gangrel. Oh yay. Kaientai runs in again, and get thrown out again. TAKA actually takes a SICK bump as he’s thrown out, his face smashes on the ground. Unlucky #13 is Edge. Rikishi gets a Banzai Drop on Bossman. Lawler keeps calling TAKA Chinese. #14 is…MR. BOB BACKLUND! That was a cool surprise. Wait…ALL 6 MEN ELIMINATE RIKISHI. Ok, now it’s officially ALL JTTS. JR, on Backlund: “He’s running for Congress in Connecticut.” Lawler: “All you ever run for is dinner.” #15 is CHRIS JERICHO! Funny spot, as Test kicks Jericho on the way to the ring but Jericho ignores it and runs for Bulldog. Jericho eliminates Backlund. Backlund exits through the crowd. #16 is Crash Holly. Well, there’s the Rock’s greatest challenge. Edge spanks Crash. OK, we need to get Bossman out of there, all he’s doing is choking and restholds. #17 is Chyna. She goes straight for Jericho, and eliminates him! Bossman eliminates her right away, however. That’s what happened in the 99 Rumble with Chyna, she eliminates one guy (Mark Henry) and then immediately gets eliminated (Austin.) #18 is Faarooq. Here’s the Mean Street Posse doing a run-in, but they get tossed, and Faarooq is eliminated by Bossman. Well, that was short. Lawler picks Bossman. Hmm. #19 is Road Dogg. Lawler keeps picking The Rock to come out next. “We Want Puppies” chant for some bizarre reason. What, you want to see Bossman’s? Oh yeah, Road Dogg started that phrase. #20 is Al Snow. This was during his heel turn. Road Dogg eliminated Bulldog. Road Dogg just crawls and hides in a corner, heh. #21 is Val Venis. OK, there’s 8 guys, I think it’s time to clear out some dead weight. Funaki runs in and gets thrown out. Lawler calls him Chinese again. JR keeps correcting him. #22 is Prince Albert. Ugh. Edge is gone. Obviously the only three who have a chance of winning are Rock, Big Show and Kane. Why is Crash still in there? #23 is Hardcore Holly. Yawn. 2 ½ years later and he’s STILL not over. Of course, all the other guys in the ring aren’t over either. All NINE PEOPLE. #24 is…THE ROCK! The crowd totally wakes up. He lays the Smackdown, eliminating Bossman. He gets double teamed and stuff, however. Yeah, like HARDCORE HOLLY would eliminate The Rock. #25 is Mr. Ass. I hate his see-through tights. Rock eliminates Crash. OK, Rock is officially winning after eliminating his toughest competition. #26 is…THE BIG SHOW! He eliminates Test and Gangrel. #27 is that BAH GAWD HOSS, Bradshaw. Mean Street Posse in, and out. Outlaws eliminate Bradshaw. Acolytes fight with the Posse in the aisle. SMELL THE ***** FEUD! #28 is KANE! He eliminates Val Venis. #29 is Godfather. Kane eliminates Prince Albert. Funaki is back in, and Lawler calls him Chinese AGAIN. And ANOTHER TIME. #30 is of course X-Pac. Al Snow eliminates Hardcore Holly. Big Show eliminates Godfather. Rock eliminates Al Snow. Mr. Ass eliminates Road Dogg, and Kane eliminates Mr. Ass. FINAL FOUR: Kane, X-Pac, Rock, and Big Show: Rock eliminates X-Pac, but the refs are caught up with Kane fighting the Outlaws, so he comes back in. Kane BODYSLAMS Big Show, but X-Pac eliminates Kane. OH NO NOT THE BRONCO BUSTER on Big Show. Show no-sells, and tosses X-Pac. So we’re down to Rock and Big Show. Spine on the pine, PEOPLE’S ELBOW~! I miss that move. He tries to toss the Rock but Show blocks it, AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHTHECHOKESLAM!!!!!! He puts Rock on his shoulder, and goes to toss him, but they both go over the top, wait, ROCK HANGS ON! BIG SHOW IS OUT! Rock wins the 2000 Royal Rumble at 51:57. I haven’t seen too many Rumbles, but this one was OK, with too many jobbers. ***1/2. Rock says FINALLY he’s going to Wrestlemania, so Big Show comes back and TOSSES THE ROCK OVER THE TOP ROPE! Exclusive Footage: Dr. Tom Pritchard (ha!) interviews Rock. SUPERSTAR LOVES YOU SECTION: DVD EXTRAS -“Cactus Jack Returns”: This is just the video package for the Street Fight. 1 for 1 -“Divas in Swimsuits”: A recap of the Bikini Contest, with some still photos. Luckily, the Mae Young part is completely censored. 2 for 2. -“The Rock vs. The Big Show”: This is a recap of their feud, leading up to Royal Rumble. Including Triple H pinning Rock in a tag match. Also, the “over the top rope lumberjack match,” between Rock, Kane, and Big Show. Big Show eliminates Rock first (!), but he gives Show a Rock Bottom. Kane backdrops Show over the top to win. All the lumberjacks fight in the ring. 3 for 3. -“Triple H Gets Stitched Up”: This is backstage footage, including close ups of his calf puncture wound. It’s really gross seeing all the dried blood on his face. He tells some guy to go in the crowd and tell his parents he’s all right. It’s interesting, but gross. 4 for 4. -“Rumble Aftermath, Who Won?”: Replay of the finish, with Big Show saying he was robbed. He proves to Triple H that Rock’s feet hit the mat first. That’s interesting, actually. Rock does the “AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHTHE CHOKESLAM hand motion.” Also footage of Show costing Rock the match against Chris Benoit. MUAHAHAHA. It would’ve been cool to see the No Way Out match, too. Other footage of them fighting. 5 for 5. -“1998 Rumble”: This is the remainder of the 1998 Royal Rumble. We’re up to #28. The remaining guys are: Rock, Austin, Mark Henry, Faarooq, Savio Vega, Honky Tonk Man, One of the Godwinns (I think), Thrasher, Goldust (Bluedust), Dude Love, Kama Mustafa. #29 is CHAINZ. Ross says Rock has been in the match for 50 minutes. #30 is VADER! Honky is gone via Vader. Stone Cold eliminates Thrasher, and Kama, and Savio. Bluedust eliminates Vader. Godwinn eliminated himself. Chainz throws out Bluedust. Austin eliminates Chainz. Faarooq eliminates Mark Henry. Final Four: Stone Cold, Dude Love, Faarooq, The Rock. Dude and Faarooq pair off, and Austin and The Rock. Sweet Shin Music, and DOUBLE ARM DDT ON THE ROCK! Mandible Claw on Austin, but Austin low blows him. Faarooq clotheslines Dude out. Faarooq tries to throw Austin out, so Rock sneaks up and eliminates him. Next year, these two would fight in the main at Wrestlemania. Rock teases elimination, but takes a KICK WHAM STUNNER~! And gets thrown out. Austin wins the 1998 Rumble at 8:12 shown. Mike Tyson cheers him on. 6 for 6. -“1999 Rumble”: Why must they show this? First, a video package of Vince training for the Rumble. Working out, drinking raw eggs, and practicing throwing guys over the top rope and hitting a Mac Stunner. Of course, he was #2. Now to the real Rumble. Clips of the first couple minutes, where Austin kicks his ass, but gets ambushed in the Women’s room by the Corporation. He goes into the ambulance but drives off. Now live footage. Final Four: Stone Cold, Bossman, D’Lo Brown, Mr. McMahon- D’Lo hits a Lo-Down on Austin, but Bossman eliminates him. Stunner on Bossman, and he’s gone. Now it’s McMahon and Austin. Of course, Vince was hanging out at the announce table. They brawl for awhile, which is boring. Chairshot on McMahon. Cole: “Mr. McMahon may need smelling salts.” Back in the ring, Vince gets a low blow. Austin ducks a clothesline, KICK WHAM STUNNER. Second rope elbow. Wait, here comes The WWF Champion, The Rock. They talk about the weather for a little while or something, which allows Vince to recover and throw Austin over the top rope to win the 1999 Royal Rumble at 7:10 shown (including the video package). Austin and The Rock brawl, and Vince celebrates. It’s a shame that this was on there. Why not the 97 Rumble with the controversial finish, or the 1992 Rumble? 6 for 7. Cole: “Someone slap me in the face. Is this a dream?” Well, close, it’s a nightmare. BOTTOM LINE: BUY THIS DVD! The event is AWESOME, with a solid undercard, AMAZING title match and a great Rumble. The extras are excellent too, with the exception of one, of course. Get it. Next rant is going to be Armageddon 1999. nWo scorpion gave me the idea, and plus, the Women's title match (or what happened afterward, anyway) is pretty good
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted June 16, 2002 One of my favorite Rumbles. The HHH stuff with him getting stitched up is also on the home video version of RR2K.
Guest Report post Posted June 16, 2002 The 2000 Rumble might possibly be my favorite Pay Per View ever. There really isn't a part(besides the obvious) that I skip over when watching it, and it was in the early stages of my favorite WWF time period(Armageddon 99 - Survivor Series 00).
