Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Bob Ryder has posted a hell of an editorial about the entire Austin/WWE/Debra thing on 1wrestling, and I'd check it out if I were you. What I'm talking about here though, is what he said in the very last paragraph of that writing, so, here you go... "Beating up people in the ring is easy. It's fake. Outside the world of wrestling, though, it's not as easy to be a badass. People in real life don't stand still and take a boot to the gut and lean into a stunner. My guess is that in real fights, Austin wouldn't have near the won/loss record he has in the WWE. Maybe that's why Austin, if the reports are true, picked an easy opponent." ...damnit, I love that, and it's true and one of the smartest things he has ever said. Like Bob Ryder or not, I don't see how you can't agree with him this time. Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted June 16, 2002 I don't agree with him. I can't see how anyone could think this has anything to do with Austin wanting to be a winner outside of the ring. This stems from deeply-routed pyschological problems, and while some might find Ryder's coments to be funny, I don't and I don't agree with him at all, either. In fact, I hate Ryder. Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 16, 2002 He could whip Ryder's ass, and Ryder shouldn't post shit like that without facts. It's a damn shame how fast people can turn on other people. I didn't know everyone hated Stone Cold so much, and I am shocked that everyone has been so quick to pass judgement without hearing the whole story.

Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted June 17, 2002 My God, 1bob capitalizing on a one-sided argument with this babyface promo. We all know hitting women is wrong. Maybe that's why Austin, if the reports are true, picked an easy opponent. So I guess he was feeling violent and just felt like beating somebody up for no reason and chose his wife because he can't beat a normal person up.
Guest Report post Posted June 17, 2002 What's next for Bob Ryder? Taking a bold stand against child abuse? We know beating a woman is wrong, Bob. No need for the self-righteous bullshit.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 17, 2002 Bob Ryder rarely writes anything that comes across as intelligent. Sometimes I wonder what he's thinking. I've never read anything like that from Meltzer or Keller. Ryder should wait and find out all of the details before he starts talking about how Austin is beating his wife because he couldn't win pro-wrestling matches if they were real. Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted June 17, 2002 Bob is not breaking any new ground about how men shouldn't beat on women. Then again everything off of 1wrestling should be taken with a boulder of salt. Those guys are horrible at reporting and their editorials suck ass. I have been on vacation for the week, but still had some quick net access for little 5-10 minute stretches and hearing the news about Austin was disheartening to say the least. I was not pleased with the way this whole thing went down from either side. It is a lose-lose situation right now if you ask me. The new development about possible spousal abuse makes this whole scenario that much more sadder and darker. Unfortunately if Steve is beating his wife, he becomes what he always called his opponents- a piece of trash.

Guest Report post Posted June 17, 2002 remember when ryder acually had intelligent things to say, in like 98. It's too bad he has become the ish of columnists considering that he was accually very good. --Rob
Guest Report post Posted June 17, 2002 So because Ryder voiced his opinion he's the bad guy? I'm not the biggest fan of 1Wrestling, but come on now. He isn't saying anything most of us aren't. If he defended Austin by saying stuff like "Steve must be going through a hard time, etc" we would be all over him for supporting a "Wife Beater."

No, he's the bad guy because he voiced his opinion in an extremely self-righteous and ignoble way. Expressing your opinion on something is one thing, but Ryder explaning Austin's actions as "wanting to be succesfull out of the ring" is possibly the most asinine comment I've heard from him all year. What's he going post next? "This just in, molesting children is BAD!!! click for more details." Ryder is possibly the biggest horse's ass to get his own collum (aside from Chris Hyatte) and his website is the collective shit-hole of the internet. And if Ryder had said "Austin must be going through a tough time" then I would agree with him, because at least he would be looking at things from a rational point of view and admiting that Steve is a real person with serious problems instead of trying to insult our intelligence about the ethics of wife-beating, and so on. Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted June 17, 2002 I would like to hear the whole story on this. I don't approve of wife beating in the least, but I doubt Austin just whacked her out of nowhere. We don't know the circumstances here, or what was said leading up to it. However, since it is a reoccurring thing it makes Austin look worse, like this wasn't a one time flying off the handle thing he did when he was having the week from hell.
