Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released

Recommended Posts

Chris Adam's girlfriend died of the alcohol and GHB overdose, he was shot and killed by his roommate in an argument unrelated to the incident. Both of them did OD but Chris survived.

If I remember right, he had been indicted for the death of his girlfriend though.

Ahh, I stand corrected.

The Debra interviews are curious. I don't think anyone would have a problem if she was a guest on one show and said her peace, then vanished. By constantly showing up on all these news shows she comes off more like she's pushing her own agenda rather than discussing the Benoit story or having serious ideas on how to change the wrestling business. And really, does anyone care about Austin and Debra's home life? Sure, maybe Austin had some bouts of roid rage...or maybe he just has a bad temper. I would like to see Austin on one of these shows to hear what he has to say about Benoit, maybe he could also speak on all the allegations Debra is making.

Truthfully Chris should still be on the list. The guy was a huge drug addict, an alcoholic and if the gunshot didn't kill him then odds are he would have killed himself before going to prison. The guy was a walking disaster zone and the only thing shocking about his death is it wasn't finally an overdose of some kind that did him in.

Now Junkyard Dog definately doesn't deserve on the list. That had to be one of the saddest deaths in a long time. Died in a car accident coming home from his daughter's graduation. I heard a rumor his body is also in an unmarked grave, which just makes the damn story even sadder for me. I wouldn't have a problem with guys like Owen and Yoko and JYD being listed since they say they all died before 50, which is accurate. The problem is they immediately go into steroid talk and make it seem like all of them died from drugs or some kind of rage.

I think a lot of separate issues are getting confused here.

1. What Benoit did is probably more about deep psychological problems than any drug he did. It's possible that they aggravated his condition (maybe even probable), but steroids and painkillers can't be blamed as the root cause.

2. It's not WWE's fault that Benoit's family was murdered. It is not right for the media to imply that they drugged up Benoit until he became a murderer.

3. They do however deserve a ton of negative attention for their so-called wellness policy, and while it's sad that it took a murder-suicide for someone to shine the light on it (and again, even though it was not the root cause) it's about fucking time somebody gave them serious shit for the way they treat their workers. I've got mixed feeling about this. I want WWE cleaned up, but it really bothers me that it might be cleaned up because of a bunch of wrong assumptions. Then again, maybe I should think "At least it might be cleaned up."

4. Wrestlers don't have to take steroids in order to work for the WWE. In much the same way actresses don't *have* to be under 30 and anorexically thin in order to get the best choice of movie roles. The WWE may say "it's okay" on paper, but the real message is clear.

5. Comparing WWE to other industries don't really work. Baseball may be full of juicers, but they have an off season and don't have a job that requires them to get thrown on their back five times a week. The music industry is full of drugs, but how many music producers insist that you shoot up before you can get your album deal?

6. I don't really expect anything to change. As soon as Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan gets drunk in public again, the media will forget all about it and the pressure to change in the WWE will be gone.

That is not why I am saying she is annoying.......but why does she need to be on a show 19 times to say the same thing over and over?

They are just having her on because she'll do what they want and that is trash wrestling.

Which is worse - Austin beating the sh!t out of Debra for years or Debra speaking about it in an annoying fashion?

What does that have to do with anything? Just because Debra was beaten up by her husband, she's allowed to be an annoying bitch on TV and no one can say anything?

If she got beaten up by him, then I think she should be able to say that as many times as she wants, although you're right if you're saying it doesn;t give her a right to comment ad nauseum on the Benoit situation.

Incidentally, i wonder what sort of things Austin was calling on her, while he was pummeling her. "Annoying bitch" maybe?

I don't or wouldn't mind her being on numerous shows to tell her story but its the way she comes across while being on the shows that gives the impression she has an agenda besides trying to "save people" as she claims. She comes across damn near hysterical at times. Never mind the fact that we really haven't heard anything from her until now and the claim that she was too scared to say anything doesn't pass the stink test. It's one thing if this had just happened and she couldn't talk about it...perfectly understandable, but this long after the fact? I hate and truly despise men who hit women and Austin should have his ass whooped a hundred times over for doing it. Likewise the world should know about what he did, but something just doesn't come across as genuine with her to me.

Is anyone else surprised that "Off The Record" with Micheal Landsberg hasn't discussed the Benoit tragedy yet? When the Montreal screwjob or the Owen Hart death happened, the show immediately had personalities from the wrestling world debating the issues.

What's even more surprising is that there isn't a whole lot of subjects to discuss about right now with only MLB active and the NHL in its offseason. TSN boycotting the WWE?

from the torch.

U.S. Congressman Cliff Stearns of Florida was quoted in the Baltimore Sun on Monday that Congress should hold hearings on steroids in wrestling, similar to Major League Baseball in 2005.

"Between 1985 and 2006, 89 wrestlers have died before the age of 50," Stearns told the paper. "Of course, not all of these deaths can be attributed to steroid use. However, this abnormally high number of deaths of young, fit athletes should raise congressional alarms."

Stearns was involved in MLB and NFL steroid investigation two years ago, and he's urging the Commerce, Trade & Consumer Protection Subcommittee to look into the prevalence of steroids in wrestling to determine how it can be eliminated from the business.

Hold hearings for steroids in football while you're at it. And bodybuilding. May as well waste all of Congress's time instead of just some of it.

From the Associated Press:

Some tests in Benoit case complete, officials mum on results

By HARRY R. WEBER

Associated Press Writer

ATLANTA - Some of the chemical tests on the bodies of pro wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son have been completed, but officials were mum Tuesday on what the results show.

A spokesman for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, John Bankhead, told The Associated Press that his agency was waiting for all the tests to be complete before sharing the results with investigators in Fayette County.

"We're going to discuss what we find with local investigators and they can determine what they want to release," Bankhead said.

District Attorney Scott Ballard did not immediately return a page to his cell phone seeking comment.

Police have said Benoit strangled his wife and son, placing Bibles next to the bodies, and then hung himself on a piece of exercise equipment in his suburban Atlanta home the weekend of June 22.

Authorities found anabolic steroids in Benoit's home, leading officials to wonder whether the drugs played a role in the killings. Some experts believe steroids can cause paranoia, depression and violent outbursts known as "roid rage."

Since the deaths, toxicology tests have been conducted on Benoit's body to determine if steroids or other drugs were present. Blood-alcohol tests also were conducted on his body, and chemical tests were conducted on the bodies of the wife and son, Bankhead said. The wife's body was decomposed, preventing some tests on her body from being done, though Bankhead declined to be specific.

The GBI has been handling the testing for general drugs and alcohol, while an outside lab was hired to do the testing for steroids, Bankhead said. He declined to name the lab or say which of the tests have been completed.

"There is going to be some interpretation of what was found," Bankhead said, without elaborating.

A federal agent's affidavit said Benoit's personal doctor, Phil Astin, prescribed a 10-month supply of anabolic steroids to Benoit every three to four weeks between May 2006 and May 2007. It says that during a probe called "RX Weight Loss," Benoit was identified as an excessive purchaser of injectable steroids.

The affidavit also says that "Astin has been the subject of concern for excessive and/or suspicious prescribing activity by the Carrollton, Ga. Police Department and local area pharmacies."

Authorities have not said what "RX Weight Loss" refers to.

Astin has told the AP he prescribed testosterone for Benoit, a longtime friend, in the past but has not said what, if any, medications he prescribed when Benoit visited his office June 22, the day authorities believe Benoit killed his wife.

Last week, Astin was charged in a federal indictment with improperly prescribing medication to two other patients, but not Benoit. Prosecutors have said more charges are possible.

Astin pleaded not guilty at his first court appearance. His lawyer, Manny Arora, told AP on Monday that Astin has no plans at this time to change his plea to guilty, but he didn't rule out the idea down the road. A pretrial hearing in Astin's case is set for July 19.

A sheriff's official said Friday that Astin also is being investigated in the February 2006 death of another wrestler, Michael Durham. Ballard has not returned calls seeking comment on the status of that case.

Vince isn't at fault for all of the deaths, but because the guy wasn't under contract at the time of his death doesn't mean that Vince is absolved of all blame. For many of the guys on that list, the drugs and shit that they messed their bodies up with happened while they were on the road with the WWF/E. It's like, a guy buys heroin from the same drug dealer for 5 years, then switches to a different drug dealer and dies a month later. Even if he wasn't going to the first guy anymore, he still holds the majority of the blame because he gave him the stuff that helped deteriorate his body. I'm not calling Vince a drug dealer, but the point is, a lot of it is happening under his watch.

Vince can't be responsible for an individual choice and the lifestyle they choose. What... because he likes big guys? Yeah, that pisses me off too, it's absolutely moronic and shows just how out of touch he is with the business but he's not killing anybody. He's just being an idiot and pushing guys that offer nothing but size like Snitsky. They implemented the Wellness Program after Eddie died. If modern day backstage at WWE was like the LA metal scene of the 80's or ECW's locker room in the 90's - then, yes, you'd have a point. It's out of control. But it's a corporate environment instead. They have a dress code. They can't even play frigging video games. The young guys on the roster are by all accounts not the partying types. So what this means, if there is any abuse, it's when these guys are on their own time, battling their own demons. All Vince can do at this point is make some necessary changes to the Wellness Program, perhaps cycle the touring schedule and maybe provide psychiatric counseling to determine if anyone is having problems with the strain on their bodies, the traveling, etc. Perhaps offer a pension so old wrestlers stop commiting suicide or partying too much but who knows if that would work. Beyond that... what does he have to do? Have contracted talent escorted 24/7 to make sure they aren't abusing their bodies? He's already put guys like Regal and Eddie into rehab. He gave Benoit time off. He even fired Kurt Angle.

You compared him to a drug dealer? Like Steve Blackman said to Marc Mero - it's not like the WWE is walking around with a platter of pills and steroids telling the talent to take them. The guys in the 80's partied like rock stars and took roids on their own accord thinking they had to be big like Hogan - because of that you have a lot of dead wrestlers from the 80's. For much of the 90's, after the steroid trial, guys in WWF would get in trouble if they tested positive for something as insiginifcant as pot. Meanwhile, the other companies, ECW and WCW were full of drugs including roids in WCW. I would almost venture to guess that Ted Turner, Eric Bischoff, Paul Heyman and Tod Gordon are just as liable for these deaths as Vince is. How many dead people do you see when you watch old episodes of ECW, Nitro or even World Class. Absolutely nothing to do with Vince.

Vince was foolish to stop testing then but they were nearly out of business and losing talent to lesser road schedules and no drug testing. Now he's the sole survivor in the business and under all the scrutiny for all of these deaths?

On ESPN'S Around The Horn right now, they made mention of the 89 wrestlers to die before the age of 50...and Kevin Blackistone points out that 4 wrestlers have died this year. He seems to miss the fact that three of the four (if he is talking about Chris, Nancy, Bam Bam, and Sherri) are not exactly in the business anymore. Also, I believe it was pretty much said that Bam Bam's suicide was based on depression related to diabetes and not any sort of drugs.

They do make a good point though, and that is that if professional wrestling was considered "a real sport" that alot of the drug problems would be at least be looked at in a much brighter light.

Sherri was still hanging around the business. The point is that the lifestyles of professional wrestlers have greatly damaged the lives of these performers. Bam Bam died of an OD. You're thinking of Mike Awesome, who was a suicide.

Awesome, Benoit, Wellington, Nancy, Sherri, Bigelow all died this year under the age of 50. There are other deaths but not attached to the "young age", such as Bad News Brown and Ernie Ladd.

The one thing that surprised me about the Larry King show last night was how clueless the District Attorney investigating the case sounded. He seemed to have no idea about anything involving the investigation.

He sounded the same the day after the bodies were discovered. I get the impression that he wants to be open for questions, but he really doesn't have anything to add.

I think the District Attorney probably has very little to do with the case at this point and that is the reason for his ignorance. Why waste tax payer dollars with a big investigation on an open and shut case? The only people with any doubts are overzealous marks.

Millions of battered women live in silence and never say anything about it. It's not easy to come out and talk about something like that. It's not important when Debra says it, it's important that she IS saying it. If she'd have came out when it happened, all these fucktards would be like "HELL NAW SHES JUST TRYIN TO BRING DOWN AUSTIN SINCE HES THE BIGGEST STAR!11! 3:16 4 LIFE BITCH!", or if she'd have done it, say, last year, the same dumbasses would complain that she's just trying to get herself back in the spotlight. This was the perfect opportunity for her to open up about what happened and I don't really have any problem with it.

Oh dear god.

I like how "the intruders" were nice enough to let Benoit out of the house to talk to his neighbour on Saturday. Surely if you're trying to execute a triple homicide you don't let one of the victims wander outside and talk to whoever they want?

Apparently they think that Chris Benoit was in a remake of "Firewall". And let us say he was being held hostage for the sake of insanity. If someone just killed your wife and your son by strangling them both, gun to your head or not...would you really CARE anymore?

Stasiak is the absolute bottom of the scrap heap of wrestling. I'm just waiting for Jake to stumble out of a bed of coke onto the set of Nancy Grace.
