Slamball

What is Slamball? From what the commercials show, it's basketball where the floor bounces.

Sounds almost as fun as my friend's ULTIMATE~! game, Hazard Football, where there are pits and spikes and bumps. It's a blast. He's at the 40, the 30, the OH MY GOD he fell in a hole!

i saw a commercial for this show too and it looks interesting to say the least.  it looks like a game of basketball with trampolines.  i'm sure this one will do better than rock "n" bowl did because there are chances for permanent injuries in this game.

Sounds like a potential 75/100 minimum on the unintentional comedy scale...

Sounds like someone has taken their love of NBA Jam a little too far.

As a basketball junkie, I'll watch at least once. I'm curious about it, I'll admit that.

So... did anyone see this?

I found it to be an interesting concept, and those guys must be feeling the pain after a half. And that corkscrew-between-the-legs-windmill dunk was SWEET.

I'm on the fence about Reggie Theus as the colour guy though - it reminds me too much of NBA Live.

Overall, it's probably the 2nd best athletic competition on TNN right now. Not that that's saying much...

I enjoyed it. I don't know how long that will last though, because the novelty may wear off quickly.

I saw it as well.

Was it interesting? Yes.

Would I like to try it sometime? Yes.

Will it ever make it into the mainstream? No.

Might it carve out its own little cult following? Maybe.

And, most importantly,

Will it still be on TV when I am done with college in four years? No.

Was anyone else watching and thinking that they could do better? I was also waiting to see someone try to do a flip and dunk the ball.

for those who watched it...

Did they have to dribble? I figured the entire court doesn't consist of the trampolines, but I wasn't sure.

Did anyone try any jumpers, or was it all dunks?

Is it like a league or is it like pickup ball, with teams changing all the time?

Are any of the players former college/high school stars who we may have heard of before?

Nope. Just a bunch of streetballers who could not even hack it in CBA bouncing.

It's a intriuging idea but it would be hard for me to get 9 buddies and build a tramp court. It's not like other sports where you could just go and do it...It'll be the same level of success as RollerJam.

So was I, but I realized that since you can bodycheck on the court proper excessive showboating and/or flair may not be the wisest thing to do.

I suppose so. There was dribbling on the hardwood areas, but I honestly couldn't tell you whether it was consistent or not.

There were jumpers (from outside a 17-foot-or-so arc - the tramps were inside the arc). Some of those guys were damn good shooters. There were also tramp-assisted layups.

It's apparently a 6-team league, with 8 players to a team (4 starters), I think.

The guy who did the corkscrew-between-the-legs dunk was apparently in that Nike basketball commercial with the fancy dribbling. Aside from that... I dunno.

I think it would be a little more entertaining (though not necessarily better) if they could convince some washed-up ballers to join. Just imagine guys like JaRon Rush, Ed O'Bannon, Toby Bailey, Scotty Thurman, and Roy Tarpley playing SlamBall and wondering what the hell happened to their careers.

>XFL+Rollerjam=Slamball

If that were true, then Amy Craig would be back on my TV...
