The 25 Worst Remakes Made

Recommended Posts

PKJJ would have gone down a lot smoother with more time in the damn editing room. Like David Spade said, the best way to enjoy "King Long" is on DVD. "Bye-bye first hour!"

Amen to that. There was no need for them to stretch it three hours. That was ridiculous.

Peter Jackson is the new Von Stroheim in terms of needing a stopwatch. I thought what was most draggy about it was the finale if anything. I was like "Jesus, we all know the planes are just going to kill him, so shoot him down and let's get on with our lives."

I also didn't like the tinkering around with the main characters. Ann was the only one who seemed faithful at all. Driscoll was now an ugly wuss writer instead of a macho sailor type, and they basically did a character assassination on Denham, making him a completely uncaring sleazebag on all levels. Considering those two roles were originally thinly veiled versions of Cooper and Schoedsack themselves I have to wonder what they would have thought of Jackson's take on those characters.

Maybe some of the dragginess is because of him doing the LOTR movies basically back to back.

Then again, even that could have been trimmed up. ROTK just wouldn't end...

The thing is, Jackson actually DID serious edit down the ending to ROTK. In the book they have all this stuff with Saruman and Wormtongue taking over the Shire and the Hobbits revolting against them. In other words the ending was even more drawn out in the book.

I personally would have ended ROTK with the shot of the 4 Hobbits at the ceremony. The other stuff could still be filmed but put in the Extended Version.

#1 has to be that god awful Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

You'd be surprised how many people think that was superior to the original. They're generally sort of creepy, though.

I thought the changes in the Dawn remake were refreshing. Just because its a remake doesnt mean it HAS to follow the same formula as the original, as some of you seem to suggest.

Some movies don't NEED to be remade though. This was one that probably could have done just as well if not better with a rerelease and some touch-ups to the film (make the colors and sound and shit better)

Fuck that biker gang and fuck those rednecks honestly. I stand by my "that movie ruled" statement.

Hey, fuck you buddy...the redneck zombie killin' tailgate thing in the original was the shit and the biker gang was fucking balls to the walls too. Infact the only good thing about Land of the Dead is if you notice towards the end one of the zombies that makes its way into the city is the leader of the motorcycle gang. Same actor and everything from the looks of it.

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory was great. I just didn't like Willa Wonka being a creepy idiot, but that's Tim Burton for you I guess.

Charlie sucked. I saw it at a second-run theater up the street from my house (last night the theater was in business, and I used to go there all the time, even fingered my first chick there, so I was going there to see something no matter what), and was disappointed beyond belief. Gene Wilder got the eccentric genius of Wonka down better than Depp did, albeit with a different script, and the whole thing with Charlie being poor was done so much better in Willie than in Charlie. I just got the feeling that Wilder's Willie actually knew what was going on much better than Depp's Willie did, and that Wilder's Willie was a demented genius whereas Depp's was just demented.

The Dawn remake was solid, it just shouldn't have been called Dawn. Snyder and Gunn should've just come up with their own title, and said in interviews that they were VERY heavily influenced by Romero. It was a good flick, it just wasn't Dawn. I can actually watch Dawn '04 more often than the original, mostly because of how lightweight it is. The original is thicker, if you catch what I'm saying. There's more depth to it, there's better acting (aside from Ving Rhames, since Ving Rhames fucking rules), and there's an actual emotional growth to the characters. Plus...Romero got his hippie viewpoints thrown in nicely, whereas Dawn '04 was just straightforward "RUN FROM THE FUCKING ZOMBIES" fun.
