Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Earlier today … Aaaaand I still don’t talk about my own stuff... Toxxic promo … Toxxic comes out with the Stables title (and I’m still scratching my head over that one) and his half of the tag titles, and basically calls the entire roster a bunch of pussies for not accepting his WarGames challenge (although there is, in fact, a third possible reason, I assure you)… I have to say that I liked the whole “What’s your number” chant; it’s so pop culture, and I could actually believe today’s fans chanting something like that within the context of the promo… Anyway, not happy about knowing that either Clark or Johnny will definitely be defending the WHC at Genesis, he decides to throw his hat in the ring, and apparently declare himself the Number One Contender. And, judging by this weeks’ show, it appears that the SWF’s Championship Committee has, indeed, allowed Toxxic to call his own shot (I guess that’s because Toxxic = Ratings). Quality promo, which is to be expected from Toxxic… but, if you’re really disappointed in having knocked everybody around already, I can be talked into Toxxic versus Bruner on the next show. The Fabulous Jakey versus Jay Hawke Double no-show, apparently… Backstage promo: The Commish’s office. That Flesher sure knows how to kick a man when he’s down, don’t he? Interesting commentary with the way you give false hopes about another stable; for a moment, I thought we were going to get a bait-and-switch after that previous promo, and end up with WarGames after all, but it’s not to be… Taamo is right in the middle of telling Raynor how bad his life sucks, when in pops Maddix. And, of course, since Flesher is the president of Landon’s fan club, he’s just tickled pink to see him. Maddix volunteers to be Raynor’s problem partner, which angers Tom so much that he decides to book them in a match on the spot… … Leading to an unscheduled match between Raynor/Maddix and… Slaughterhouse Five? Somebody needs to make sure that WC gets a copy of the new official S.O.P, as it appears that they’ve added a bit about “Raynor must be attacked before the start of his match” since WC’s been on sick leave… As I read Landon taking a beating, it occurs to me that, when I first joined the fed, we had a lot of characters that were ostensibly defined by their stats: for example, we had strong guys that overpowered their opponents to win, or mat technicians/shooters/strikers that would out-wrestle/fight their opponents, or speedsters/high-fliers that would out-quick their opponents, and maybe one or two characters like King and Edwin, who weren’t particularly strong, or quick, or great wrestlers or anything, but were resilient and resourceful, and somehow found ways to win… Fast forward to five years later, and it seems like practically all the significant characters are like that sometimes… Or perhaps I just have a jaundiced eye about such matters… Anyway, back to the match, the action is fluid, even if I am disappointed about Raynor kicking out of the high-low without help; hell, the lariat alone probably should have merited a run-in… Very nice inverted Atomic Drop/DDT spot, and have I mentioned lately how much I HATE having a DDT as a transition move? Were Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton ever a team? I wonder because that’s the closest equivalent off the top of my head to the union of Maddix and Raynor… Anyway, Acid Rayne gets the win, and sets the as-yet-nameless team up for a big match for the next Storm against the Winston Churchill Experience… But, will the WCE go into next week as the World Tag Team Champions? Let’s find out, as… The Winston Churchill Experience challenge Revolution Zero for the World Tag Team Titles … I’ll admit that I missed a few shows, so I’m not sure whether there’s a story behind the off-cue pyro, but it’s kind of funny… I love the “paper hammer” line, too… By the way, when did we start permitting all the uncensored cursing? Isn’t Storm supposed to be on network TV? Anyway, the match begins, and I think it’s interesting the way R-0 seems to want to write Jimmy as the Dhalsim of the SWF, with the arms and legs… The “tag match” had me shaking my head; it was well-written, and definitely original, but it wasn’t my bag, I guess… Thankfully (for me, anyway), the shtick gives way to some actual wrestling, and the meat of the match is solid, if unspectacular… I’m guessing that WCE no-showed, since this doesn’t look like it’s in the same time zone of Toxxic’s better stuff, and, while it’s good enough, I can’t imagine that it would have beaten a good match. Johnny Dangerous challenges Alan Clark for the Heavyweight Championship … It’s a little humorous to read the juxtaposition of Johnny’s match gassing Clark up after Toxxic spent all show long burying him… I like the brutality of two guys that have had heat for a long time just having a flat-out slugfest; somebody may be inclined to recount but, as near as I can tell, there were only three successfully-applied “traditional” wrestling holds in the whole match, and that included two Germans… I normally don’t like the WWE-esque punch/kick style of matches, but when you’ve got two guys with a history like Clark and Johnny have, it makes more sense than to have them trading signature moves for 5000 words… More back-and-forth, until Johnny hits the Lambeau Leap Spinal Explosion for the win, and his third Heavyweight Title. I like the fact that he was able to win a title match with a non-finisher that wasn’t a rollup, since we almost never see that around here (or on TV, either, for that matter), but I have to say that this match seems like the previous title match, where this isn’t anywhere near Johnny’s best work, which would seem to suggest that Clark no-showed, too. Overall, I’d probably be frustrated if I were part of CC with all the no-shows (hell, I’m frustrated now, so I can only imagine how they feel), but what made the show was solid; my “promo” was probably the weakest contribution to the whole show. Toxxic 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Of course there could be a third reason WC, but you think Toxxic the egomaniac is going to acknowledge that? I'm intrigued to see where the WC shin guard thing is going, I like the Raynor/Maddix teaming rationale (just because it'll annoy Tom), and congratulations to Johnny for pulling out the big one for the third time. I'm only just back off holiday so I'll read in more detail later.
Sly 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I contributed more to the Rev-0 match than usual, so that's probably why it sucked.
Toxxic 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 Sly, in the nicest possible way, shut it. I can only think of one match we've had where you did much less than half, all the others have been pretty much evenly distributed.

Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2007 I'm intrigued to see where the WC shin guard thing is going...You'll be disappointed, I assure you; I'm not that creative... I basically was just watching some old WWF from the late-80s, particularly lots of Greg Valentine matches from after he became associated with Jimmy Hart, and I thought to myself "why the hell do I have WC taking the damned things off?" So, I decided, "what the hell, let him have his shin guards." But, now that you mention it, I should probably have some sort of backlash... I'll try to think of something.
