College student tasered at Kerry speech.

Recommended Posts

I'd also shove a cop if I was trying to resist something like aggravated assault.

It's up to the individual being arrested to make the decision whether to resist arrest or not. And it's up to any onlookers to make the decision whether to intervene to protect someone from police violence or not. There's no reason a few hundred people should be intimidated by a few fucking badges. Besides, resisting arrest shouldn't even be a crime. Whatever they're arresting a person for is enough, and things like assaulting an officer are already covered - the reason resisting arrest is a crime is to remove a person's legal right to defend him or herself from violence.

... You really think that was aggravated assault? I'm not exactly a fan of cops, but that's definitely not aggravated assault.

Yes...

... and now you suggest that, because someone is being escorted out for basically disturbing the peace and breaking the rules of the forum, the students should start a riot? That strikes me as a little bit crazy and a whole lot of stupidity.

"Hey guys, let's attack the cops and start a dangerous riot, which will definitely hurt a lot more people in the process, because some jackass who interrupted the forum and refused to be lead out is now getting dragged to the ground and arrested!"

"Yeah, that sounds like an awesome idea!"

No offense... well, actually, I don't care if I offend you. That's a fucking stupid statement there. You shouldn't have a legal right to 'defend yourself' from an officer of the law. What constitutes 'defense', and what constitutes 'violence'? What if you were defending yourself from oncoming violence by attacking the cop early? Or how about the fact that resisting arrest covers running away, and not just struggling. Which means that people fleeing from the scene of a crime, on foot or in a car, are technically not committing any crime: They are simply 'saving' themselves from 'police violence'.

God, what a jackass. I can understand not trusting police, but this is just sheer stupidity.

C Bacon is easily my favorite CE poster just because I never know what he'll say next.

He's my least favorite because I cringe when his name is next to, "Last post by:"

And he's one of very few that have earned the honor of visible displeasure whenever I read something he wrote.

haha, yeah, that's the first thing I thought when I heard that.

People don't realize how easy it is to just run from cops.

That reminds me of a funny story. I was at a party, and some guy ran through the house yelling "COPS!!! THE FUCKING COPS!!!" So everyone collectively panicked, and started running in all directions. Some people simply bolted out the front door and scattered in the residential areas, and the rest went through the back. There's no back gate or anything, and the backyard of the house borders another house with a pool. Everyone just starts hopping the fence (we're talking a massive amount of people, maybe 75 people hopping a single fence into some guys pool) and this big ass guy starts heaving people that are already climbing the fence by pushing their asses up with two hands, totally clearing them into the pool. Now, the guy next door was already awake from the party, and came to the sliding glass windows only to see a horde of people jumping his fence, flying over the fence into the pool, and surrounding his house.

The cops didn't even show.

That would have been awesome to get on tape. Would have won some serious money from one of those "funniest video" shows.

Go figure...I go away for a few days, and my seeming polar opposite decides to start posting again, in this thread.

C-Bacon basically suggested the students attack the police for doing their job. Nice.

If a group of them discover one of the cops breaking the law, induce a valid citizen's arrest, and then have to subdue the struggling suspect because he won't stop resisting, sure.

I haven't seen the video, as I am mostly online at work with no speakers.

Did the cops (do they have to?) tell the person they're cuffing what they are under arrest for?

Sometimes I legit wonder if certain community members derive sexual arousal from authoritarian behavior. Probably a fairly logical justification in this case.

I did enjoy his screaming at the end of that first video. What a pussy.

lol

Kid's lucky he was tasered. Ten years ago, cops would beaten the shit out of him with batons and left some permanent damage.

I'm against the idea of cops being the only ones authorized to use "lethal force" (gives them too much power), but when they tell you to leave, you leave.

Its funny that people are gleefully ignoring that the reason he was taken to the ground and tased is because he started shoving cops. And kept doing so.

There is absolutely nothing to be angry or shocked about here.

So, if I am reading the sarcasm correctly, he shouldn't have been arrested because he was not shoving the cops that hard?

Once again, for the slow people, it is against the law to push, or shove the cops. When the person does that, it is not outside the realm of reason to believe that he would punch or kick said cops, if acting out physically towards them is obviously his course of action. Now the cops have to protect themselves. So arresting the guy is what happens...you know, because he broke the law and all. If person still will not put his hands behind his back and still fights with cops:

1: Old way: Put a knee to the back of his neck so he can't stand up and give short, hard shots with the baton in the ribs until they move their arm to protect from the rib shots at which point others can grab the arm and cuff him.

2: New way: Tase him so that he goes limp for 10-15 seconds and cuff him.

They went with 2. Those of you that are saying they were wrong are basically saying that the safety of the policemen involved was not important at all, only that of the guy that decided shoving them was the best course of action.

And for the America will never change shit, let the little asshole try that shit anywhere else in the world and he would have gotten it worse and you fucking know it.

You're never going to acknowledge the fact that the police were ridiculously overzealous from the beginning, are you?

How were they overzealous. Looking at the whole video, everyone else asked one question, kept it moving. This guy jumped line, grabbed the mike (which would have gotten him kicked out if not for Kerry saying let him speak) then kept on the mic after he was asked to leave when he didn't let Kerry answer any questions. He basically broght the entire thing to a standstill.

What would you expect the outcome of that to be? They were escourting him out. They didn't say "HEY! Stop being an ass...You are under arrest." then tase him. They were escorting him out and then he pushed the cops that were escorting him out by slightly holding his arm.

Then they tried to move him out by just carrying him out and he shoved off those cops. At which point on cop says "Now you are under arrest" and he starts shoving even more, screaming like a bitch for the other people in there to jump the cops I guess, and still wouldn't put his hands behind his back. He was asked at least 9 times that I heard to put your hands behind your back. He STILL wouldn't do it, then he got told 5 times that he would be tased if he didn't put his hands behind his back.

So please highlight in this where they were overzealous in the slightest.

Depends entirely on a number of different variables. What are they chasing you for? What kind of terrain are you being chased through? Have they radioed ahead to have other cops cut you off? Are you real sure that they won't just say fuck it and shoot you? And most importantly, are you a better runner than every one of the cops behind you?

There is absolutely nothing to be angry or shocked about here.

Yeah, that's what the guy said. Thank you, tip your waitresses, I'm here all week.

If I'm on my bike, and I'm used to cyclocross racing, there's barely a cop I'm aware of that can catch me, especially for minor crimes since they're likely to just go away.

I'm for REAL sure that they won't just say fuck it and shoot me, because lethal force usually isn't necessary in a situation where I'm running away. And if it comes to that, there'll be tons of people protesting my death, which I'm cool. with. I'd love martyrdom.

I jizzed twice when he started screaming like a 3rd rate Will Ferrell comedy bit.

By the second "OOOOWWWWWWWW!!!!!" I was having aftershocks.

The guy seemed to go with the cops at first until he remembered he really hadn't done anything wrong at that point.

Kerry was even willing to answer his question.

There were a whole lot of cops and they couldn't take his skinny ass down with out using a taser?

But noooo, they went ahead and used the taser... WHEN HE WAS ON THE FUCKING GROUND WITH COPS ALL OVER HIM!

The fucking kid upon hearing the word taser OFFERED TO LEAVE! Of course he was already put to the ground at that point.

So yeah, he got tasered for yelling a lot. So worth it to those authoritarian types and typical that they would celebrate it.

They didn't NEED to do what they did.
