Guest Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Throw bias and hatred out the window for this one. Pac and RVD put on a good match yesterday. RVD did not carry Pac, Pac was giving a good effort, and the match was a success. If Pac continues to put matches on like this I hope u guys will all come around on him again, because he really seems to be trying hard now, and is still capable of putting on *** or **** matches. Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted June 18, 2002 I've never really hated X-Pac. He's just there for me. What kind of caught my attention was his comments in his interview about him being a Main Event star (and when HBK told him he's the most talented wrestler). I think he's 5x better than what people give him credit for.....
Guest Shadow Report post Posted June 18, 2002 I agree with you 100%, Pac's match with RVD last night was indeed very good, and definitley was not a carry on the part of RVD. I've been saying for a while now that X-Pac is a much better worker than any smark gives him credit for, because of the obession with his backstage politics. FUCK what he does backstage- we're not wrestlers, we shouldn't care. If he's entertaining on-screen, that should be enough, in my opinion.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 18, 2002 the match was ok but is it possible for Xpac to think of a new character other than being the runt of the nWo Cliq, and demanding that there is 20 matches vs Kane a year? Xpac always looked better when he wrestled somebody in the Lightweight division, be it Hardy, RVD, Tajeri, Jericho.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted June 18, 2002 I enjoyed the match as well, but his whining skits almost made me hit the mute button.
Guest Report post Posted June 18, 2002 I'll agree that X-Pac looked like he was trying last night, but that isn't enough to make up for the fact that, outside of a few matches last summer, the guy's been doggin' it in the ring for over two years.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Yes, it was a good match, especially for a curtain jerking, but... Am I the only one who noticed that RVD landed the splash with his.. Erm... Extremeties slamming into X-Pac's shoulder? The expression on his face afterwards seemed to further tell the tale, as it looked beyond selling and into actual pain. It really looked like Pac's arm or something went up there.
Guest Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Me? Admit X-Pac was good in the ring? NO! NEVER! NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRR...... I didn't watch really closely because hey, it's X-pac. But if youse guys say he did a good job, I'll believe it. X-pac can work well when he wants to, but it seems that most of the time, he doesn't because he knows he doesn't have to because he has friends in high places and because of that will always be "taken care of" and pushed beyond his heat and/or be in a position to ride on the heat of someone else and look more important than he actually is. And that, I think, is why there's a strong anti-Pac sentiment among us smarkies. We perceive that X-pac can get away with not trying as hard and still keep his job while a wrestler of comparable card level (who we often mark for) might get cut from TV or from the roster alltogether, in spite of him "outworking" X-pac. Also, because X-pac has those friends, I think we -- at least I -- automatically assume that every time he wins a match that he only got that win because his friends campaigned for it. Whether that really is the case or not. [[And I, as a Jericho fan, still strongly resent X-pac winning every X-pac vs Jericho match starting in 1999 until some time in 2001, when Jericho was IC champion [again] and FINALLY went over X-factor X-pac.]] Maybe that's why we see red and get so angry when X-pac beats a fellow cruiserweight, even though he would HAVE TO WIN sometimes to be a credible opponent for them to beat (and hence make the cruiserweight division more compelling). We mark for Kidman and Helms and Tajiri et al [i apologize for overgeneralizing and painting with such wide brushstrokes, but I think I'm hitting general i.w.c. trends] and we hate X-pac, so when X-pac wins a match, even by blatant cheating, even though it would help the division in the long run, we have little to no patience for it. Especially if X-pac didn't, in our eyes, bust his ass in that match like he has shown himself to be capable of doing.
Guest Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Bobby, you rule. That's right, X-Pac puts on a good match when he feels like it. That is NOT how wrestling is supposed to work. Go out there and put on a good match regardless.
Guest alfdogg Report post Posted June 18, 2002 I didn't see the match, so I'll just take your word for it.
Guest Risk Report post Posted June 18, 2002 I liked the match. Damn, RVD can hit the frog splash from anywhere...
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted June 18, 2002 I liked the match. Damn, RVD can hit the frog splash from anywhere... I was thinking to myself, "He's too far, is RVD going to fly that far?" And I'll be damned if he didn't hit that sumbitch right on the button.
Guest Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Right now, NOBODY flies higher than RVD, unless X-Pac steals his pot.
Guest Insane Clown Dan Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Well, to be quite honest, the only reason that I can't get into an X-pac match is because ALL THE STUPID PUNKSH*TS IN THE CROWD ARE SUCKING HIS HEAT AWAY WITH THEIR STUPID, MINDLESS BOOS!!! Whoops. You never saw THAT coming. I have been an X-pac fan since I first watched the WWE, and really don't understand why everyone hates him. He is NOT the runt of the NWO... i thought that was being perfectly conveyed last night.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Xpac is the runt of the nWo because: "I'm telling Kev" "Did you see what he did to me" was a stupid running skit throught out RAW, what a crybaby besides everybody knows that Xpac was best when he wrestled against D-Lo for the European title. What I hate about Xpac is how out of nowhere he can hit the X Factor and win the match, its worst than Kidman's powerbomb reversal spot. But when RVD used the Johnny Cage punch to block the finish, I died laughing Oh and the Bronco Buster move is by far the worst move ever.....only women should use that move. and yes I see the irony here
Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 18, 2002 It was good stuff. One of those rare times when im expecting it to be good, and then it goes a little higher than my expectations (I like both guys as performers) I dont agree with it but i found this sign funny "you cant spell overrated without R-V-D" lol
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 19, 2002 That sign was clever. And it was a good match. Is it me or is RVD finding new ways to make his spots look cooler evry match? It's like he's saying "yeah...I spot...live with it." Then he uses them to put on very entertaining matches. Big difference from the old spot RVD and this spot RVD. Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted June 19, 2002 I never jumped on the "X-PAC SUCKS" bandwagon. When motivated, he is one of the best workers in the business.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted June 19, 2002 I never jumped on the "X-PAC SUCKS" bandwagon. When motivated, he is one of the best workers in the business. The problem is, he hasn't been motivated in over five years. True, the entire movement against him does go beyond rational sometimes (he has had okay matches from time to time) but X-Pac is still a leech who has benafitted from friends in high places and thinks he's a star because of it. Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted June 19, 2002 I didn't think last night's match was anything special. The best part was the return of THE BOOKEND!!!!! I thought X-Pac vs. D'Lo from Heat a few weeks ago (when Jackie was commentating) was a better match.
Guest Nater Report post Posted June 19, 2002 Oh, and X-Pac refusing to work two matches in a night regardless of the strain still earned Raven some TV time and perhaps an interesting feud with Jeff Hardy. X-Pac, removing the glass unintentionally.
Guest jm29195 Report post Posted June 19, 2002 X pac actually has headlined a britsh ppv in 1998 when he went for the world title in a co- main event against corporate rock- he lost by dq~!!
Guest Brian Report post Posted June 19, 2002 Yeah, it was decent. Didn't really like the first part of the match as it kind of threw me off, but it was decent. X-Pac can be decent, not in a great worker sense but in a Shawn bump my ass off sense. I mean, in his best matches he was wrestling Jerry Lynn and the mix of Lynn being an awesome worker and X-Pac sacrificing his body before a hundred concussions caught up to him makes those matches really farking good. Guest Report post Posted June 19, 2002 I was thinking to myself, "He's too far, is RVD going to fly that far?" And I'll be damned if he didn't hit that sumbitch right on the button. I was also thinking that it was like X-pac was 3/4 across the ring diagonally and yet Van Dam Seemed to hit it dead on and was it just me or did it look so cool when RVD hit it and then bounced up even better than normal. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted June 19, 2002 the match with x-pac didn't surprise me at all. face it, rvd has made it his mission to have watchable-good matches with bad opponents. let's see... undertaker- taker's only good matches in the past year have been against rvd. goldust- not a great match at NWO but certainly more watchable than anything else on that card. regal- i was loving the hell out of that match before it got cut short. face it peeps, rvd has consistently put on better matches than practically anyone else in the company in the last 6 months, save for kurt angle. x-pac is just the latest opponent to benifit from being in the ring with rvd. Guest Brian Report post Posted June 19, 2002 Good and watchable are two different thing.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted June 19, 2002 which is why i distinguished between the two. most taker matches in the last year have not only been NOT GOOD but unwatchable. RVD has given us both when wrestling taker. most regal matches have been brutal but the Mania match was going along fine until the abrupt ending. too short but a GOOD match nonetheless. the goldust match was watchable, something goldust has not had in this run. it was also on a card full of unwatchable matches. the x-pac match was good but i don't think another wrestler could have made it as entertaining as it was save for angle. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 20, 2002 Like I said...RVD has learned how to use his spots to the advantage of the match ...instead of just to use them. In his own warped style of wrestling... ...no...I'm not going there.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted June 20, 2002 For me, that match was the biggest highlight of a pretty decent raw.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted June 20, 2002 For some deranged reason RVD has cool matches against big dudes and others you wouldn't think he'd mesh well with. His UT matches have been cool, his matches on ECW with Bigelow are my faves, he even got some cool matches out of Balls Mahoney (not at Anarchy Rulz though, that one was mediocre).
