Simpletech Extrenal Hard Drive

I have one of these and its always worked fine up until now. now when I hookit all up, it makes a weird beeping sound and the computer won't read the hard drive (it won't recognize that its hooked up). Unfortunately I don't know where the instructions landed. Does anybody know what this beeping sound means and how I can get the computer to read this hard drive? Thanks in advance.

See, if you had bought a Difficulttech, you wouldn't be in this mess.

 

My hard drive (Cavalry) fucks up a lot and fails to fully display directories. When this happens, all I do is turn off the computer and hard drive, turn the hard drive on, then the computer itself, and during start-up, it resolves any lost directory mishaps with no or minimal damage. See if this resolves matters. If it's a matter of not recognizing the peripheral at all, then maybe the whole thing just crapped out. Is it possible that it overheated? That's a good way to lose a CD drive.
