Chinese Democracy

Anyone have ANY idea when this next Guns N' Roses (If you still want to call them that) album is supposed to come out now?

I know that there's supposedly a GnR American tour that will be running from September to December this year, so that seems like it might suggest the album would be released this summer before the tour. But Axl did cancel the European tour a while ago, and the album WAS supposed to come out in 1997, so who knows what'll happen.

I've seen some video of GnR at Rock in Rio 3 last year, and while they looked...different to say the least, Axl was awesome and they sounded great, and two of the new songs I've heard ("Chinese Democracy" and "Madagascar") are totally great.

So who knows, there might be some hope.

I was wondering the same thing... I just gave up on it.

It was REALLY suppose to come out on the summer of 2001, but nope.  I sort of gave up hope.  And, I'm going to miss Slash, too.

But, with my CD I have of all the awesome GNR songs, I'll do fine until it comes out.

I didn't know all the 'awesome' songs of Guns N Roses fit on one CD?

Slash has his own band. The Snakepit, and they rock!

http://www.snakepit.org - they're worth checking out... I'm a little bit hesitant about Fat Axl's version of GNR... it's basically him covering his old band's songs, right?  Last I heard too, Buckethead walked out on him.

Rock in Rio was decent if you want to hear old GNR songs played almost exactlly, but it's nothing close to the original. And anyone who is anxious about what Axl's group will sound like check out the "End of Days" soundtrack... the track is called "Oh My God (this song is shit)"

Supposedly the Chinese Democracy album is awesome...but Axl is such a freak that the project has taken years to finish (well, it's probably not finished yet really).

I don't think anyone really cares about G 'n R that much anymore. They've kinda been passed by in the musical world.

I also disagree with that. If you look at Mtv.com rollingstone.com or any of the other big music websites, whenever the slightest bit of news about the new Guns n Roses or any of the old members comes up, it always gets headline news space.

As for the new album, I've heard great things about it (but they're all rumours), and the only finished studio song I've heard was "Oh My God" and yeah, it did suck.

I also heard that during the process of putting together a new albm, Axl completely re-recorded Appetite for Destruction and it will never get released (good!). Also, with a new revolving door of artists and producers, they've recorded over 70 new tracks. I think Buckethead's still in the band though. The weird thing is that at Rock in Rio, even with the supposed 70 new songs completed, they only played 4 new ones, which kind of makes them seem like a GnR cover band that just happens to have Axl Rose and Dizzy Reed in it.

I think Guns N' Roses could still make an impact on the music world if they ever release Chinese Democracy. Will it be as awesome as the 87-93 Guns N' Roses? Hell no, no band will ever be that good. I still want to hear the new album though.

Wouldn't it be interesting if GnR released an album and so did a band comprised of Slash, Duff, Matt (who ARE working together), and Izzy was released as well. Which one would be better?

P.S. Fat Axl?? He looked to be in pretty great shape in the videos I saw.

I agree with the first statement... I'm a diehard GNR... I just love the band.

And, what I REALLY REALLY REALLY want, but isn't going to happen? That the band gets back together... that would.. so rule all.

I've heard that there are like 40 songs in the can from the last several years of recording. I heard that Axl even got Shaq to come in and lay some stuff down for one track. Frankly, that sounds like it will suck. I haven't heard anything from the new stuff, but hopefully Axl decides to stay away from any and all tracks with Shaq.

Well considering Slash and Izzy wrote all the AWESOME GNR songs (IMO of course) and Rose's were kinda sucky, depending on who laid down the vocals, im sure there's would be better...

Rose wrote "Estranged", "Breakdown" , and "Sweet Child O Mine", three fucking amazing songs, completely on his own, and co-wrote almost every other GnR song with Izzy and Slash, so this misconception that "Izzy wrote all the good songs" that people say all the time is totally untrue.

However, I do think Izzy wrote Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City on his own, and three of Axl's songs were "Get in the Ring", "My World", and "Shotgun Blues," so I see where that comes form.

I can't find a single song where Slash gets full writing credit though, or any where it's just Slash and Izzy.

well you're basically saying what I said...Izzy helped with songs that Axl wrote? well there ya go, without Izzy helping him, Axl would write shit songs...

Oh, I totally agree with that, I don't know how they made it onto a CD full of such awesome material.

Although I am entertained by "Get in the Ring" sometimes (especially the line "Suck my Fucking Dick"), because it sounds so stupid on an album by a band who was at the top of the music world at the time.

Yup, that's pretty much it. The Use Your Illusion disc (think it was 2) was awesome. Those songs just seemed completely out of place. Especially "My World" which was just awkward and had no real purpose whatsoever. It was at that moment I knew Axl had lost his mind.

it was 2 but illusion 1 had some great songs as well, it just wasn't as great cohesively as 2. fuck, dead horse, and coma are two of my favorite gn'r songs... ever. then again, i think the fact that november rain and don't cry are on the album negate any goodwill someone might feel towards it.

"...and I'll kick your bitchy little ass, punk!":P

I was rolling when I heard that one. I couldn't believe the guy was being serious. I guess it just showed everyone how easy it was to get to Axl's insecure ass.
