Russo Returns

I think Russo returning isn't the end of the world. When he has Vince McMahon presiding over him, he gets reeled in a bit and his ideas aren't quite as out of control. Also, I think his run in WCW proved one thing: Russo loves pushing the younger talent. Booker T was one of his boys, no doubt. Benoit was treated well by Russo also. With an exception here or there this year, the match quality in The Fed has just gone up in flames. Bringing Russo in can't really make matches worse, considering they suck now. If anything, he might actually clear off some of the dead weight on the roster (See BATB 2000: Hogan incident). This might not be too bad after all.

As long as he isn't head booker...but we still got some crap from him in the WWF, don't forget that. Think Mark Henry and you know what I mean...

Anyways, he does push young talent. In '99, Russo pushed Benoit harder than Benoit was pushed before at the time. Bret Hart and the Crippler had a decent match at Mayhem for the title in the tourney finals. But of course, there's also pointless crap like Kimberly and David F'N Flair, the Madusa-Spice-EvanF'NKaragias angle, rehash SS '97 at Starrcade). Bringing in 3 oldtimers at a Nitro in January to fight Jarrett was corny, but seeing Jimmy Snuka splash Jarrett from the top of the cage and Benoit swan-dive headbutt him right after, also from up top, was awesome.

Russo also had the bright idea to replace Bobby the Brain Heenan with Mark F'N Madden. MARK MADDEN!

Well on one hand he'll push new stars.

On the other hand there will be a million forgotten storylines, titles will be passed around like weed at a Led Zeppelin concert, and matches will suck.

best line ever. and so what if i smoked a little at the page/plant reunion tour?

really, if russo pushes our favorites, who the fuck cares if the wrestling is nonexistent? remember , this is the same man who said wrestling fans don't pay to see wrestling! NO GOOD CAN COME FROM THIS!!! Wake the fuck up!!!!

Who else thinks that this Raw, it's revealed that Crash is banging Molly?

Remember that week when they gave RVD and Eddy 20 minutes on Raw and gave Edge and Angle like 15 minutes on Smackdown. I miss those days.

I will go out on a limb and say this will be a good thing for the WWE. It's not like the current bookers were very good, so they might as well go back to Russo.

This leads me to wonder......with Russo back does anyone have political control and influence over the booking? I would take it as to mean that since he has control now Steph is out of the booking picture. I wouldn't be surprised if HHH's push decreased a bit. I took a look at the house show listings and after KOTR HHH isn't on either the Providence or NYC shows, therefore I don't think he is gonna win the title. In NYC it is listed as Hogan/UT for the title.

I will say that under Russo, Molly is sure to be in a match where he is in a thong.

I think there's a difference between bookers and writers... the bookers decide who gets pushed and to what extent, while the writers think of the storylines to get them there. Hence, both Russo and Steph are on the writing staff, but don't have the "official" power to push anyone.

Am I correct in my assumption?

Oh, and just to steer the conversation back on topic, just picture this:

The winner of the match... and NEWWWWWWW World Wrestling Entertainment Undisputed Champion... Nidia!!!

Ugh...

Russo pushed Storm pretty hard as well as giving Booker T his first Main Event run.

most definetley he did. he did a lot of stuff I like, but i just dont see how hes going to drive up ratings let alone keep them where they are.

plus remember, GI Bro was in there as well.. we cant blame Storm falling apart (that was big poochie) push-wise, but GI Bro!!

Actually, according to Storm, Johnny Ace (i think) pushed for his push. And now with Ace in the WWE it can happen again! Woo! Go Storm!

I just hope we don't have the shoot stuff like say...

"RVD is going for the 5 Star Frogsplash!!! What's this? Undertaker is getting up and leaving the ring! This isn't part of the script!!!"

I thought Booker T asked to do that himself.

that cant possibly be true..it just cant...Russo admitted somehwere his reasoning behind it, so it would have to be his (I hope!)

it was all supposed to lead to him leading the misfits in action

At least you're showing maturity

First of all Flyboy, don't you ever say this is the first time I've shown maturity on this board. I've always shown maturity on this board. The only people who don't show maturity are under the age of 10.

That's exactly the kind of crap I'm afraid we'll get!! "This is not in the script folks. By gawd I'm leaving this place too."

Ace has been with the company just as long as Storm has. Conciquently, they've done nothing with Storm, so I don't think Russo ariving is going to help.

Russo is not the answer to anyone's problems. True, with a filter to sort through his dumb ideas and find a few decent ones, he was of use before, but any idea he comes up with now is either a) outdated or B) really butfucking lame. The guy cannot book anymore. It's not 1999, and pregnancy angles don't generate interest anymore, nor do shoot angles, or any other idea he's had since '98. Russo is a waste of time, on every front. With him and Heyman in full control, I think I would just about vomit if I were forced to sit through them every week.

I'm going to wait at least a couple of weeks before passing judgment on this decision. Yes, signing Russo does make it seem like Vinnie Mac has hit the panic button. But as long as someone filters out his stupid ideas, he could give us some good stuff. He's done it before. He was horrible in WCW, but he didn't have to answer to anyone there. In WWE, he has to answer to McMahon. If in two weeks we find out that Crash is banging Molly, then I'll be leading the lynch mob. But I'm willing to at least give the guy a chance.

"But HHH, I really /AM/ having this baby!"

nor do shoot angles

"Just like Rock took the spotlight away from Hu... Wait a minute, am I still buddybuddy with that guy?"

Face it. If Russo books that shit it won't be any different than it already is. Things can't get worse. -_-

Those stupid worked shoot interviews were pretty lame. It was obvious that they were worked, so they weren't really doing anything for the internet fans and they went over everyone else's heads. I liked the fact that Lance Storm was booked to be a monster heel. The guy had every title except for the Heavyweight title, and I have to say that with Booker T being the champ and Lance Storm getting the huge push, I was able to overlookd some things that scked.

Why does wrestling always need to look to the past? Russo had good ideas in 97-99. I cant imagine his writing being any different. This is clearly a panic sign, the WWF needs to build at the moment and give the writers time. Heyman and Gewertz were given two weeks. Ratings dont go up over night, it takes a long time and lots of patience.

Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly

If they want to look to the past, they should look to the 80's and try to emulate some of the big money feuds and the formulas, but they should leave the 80's wrestlers in the 80's though. It seems like the WWF has forgotten the fundamentals of good booking, so if they want to look to the past, they need to look to a time when the booking was simpler.

This is the first time I've been on the net today and I'm shocked. My initial reaction is not a good one. I thought Paul Heyman would be a better booker then Russo. I know Russo probably has heat with some of the wrestlers as well, how will that turn out? Please, please, please, please keep him off of camera. Hopefully he won't trash Ric Flair again. Wrestling will go down the tubes. I would be surprised if this is the answer. I'm dissapointed.

Too many Chicken Littles. The sky is not falling yet. This will be good until Russo is on my TV. Things need to be shaken up and there's no way it can get much worse. Just look at the Storm promo on Smackdown.

I mean that the promo is a sign of good to come.

and how would this be different from the current product??

Quite frankly, this is the most promising news I've heard in a long while.

You know, I was just thinking today that the WWE should rehire Vinnie Ru, and what do you know they go out and do it! I know I am pumped for his return. At least Russo is entertaining in a "this sucks" kind of way.

Well i'm glad he is back. First off he loves to push new talents>>>

Hmm, I remember Hogan squashing Kidman under Russo.

JJ, Nash, Flair, and DDP feuding for the World Title for a while there.

FEEL the new blood, babee!

<<<, with him in benoit, eddy, rvd etc will get pushed.>>>

They HAVEN'T been pushed? Shall we try and remember what a push for Benoit and Guerrero actually WAS under Russo?

Hint: Benoit was NEVER going to be World Champ under Russo.

<<<THe guy is very creative and if he builds characters and heymen book the matches I think the product will be better than it's been for a long time.>>>

The guy is very creative?

He lives and dies with rehashes!

His BIG angle (his own words) in his first WCW stint? The nWo 2K thing.

Yup, creativity abounds.
