ROH PPV's

Recommended Posts

It wasn't up to the standard that they'd set with Driven and Man Up, which were just amazing from top to bottom (I haven't seen Respect is Earned). Nigel's title win over Morishima was nice, as was Aries/Strong (which I feel is incredibly overrated, mostly due to me not caring that much for Aries), but most of it was just...there. Adam Pearce's promo's have been a highlight on each show, but there wasn't a single match that was in-your-face good. Driven had Briscoes/Steenerico and Danielson/McGuinness, and Man Up had Danielson/Morishima II and Briscoes/Steenerico Ladder War, but this one...meh. McGuinness/Morishima was good with a heated ending, but it was kinda flat and not epic enough for the dethroning of a champion as dominant as Morishima's been.

I didn't like Man Up anywhere near as much as other people online did, so I'll get that statement out of the way. That may change what people think of my opinion of this show.

I thought the last PPV was alright. Middling, really.

The opener with Age of the Fall and Vulture Squad was okay. ROH did a horrible job with the cuts everytime they had Age of the Fall on. They'd cut to footage, or some other BS with different colors on the screen and it was just un-nerving and jarring. Not in a "These guys are cool" type of way, but as in a "this is retarded" way. They did a very weak job of explaining what Age of the Fall are rebelling against as well. As for the match, Ruckus was...bad. There's something to be said for being WAY too spotty and when you are worse then Jack Evans, that says something. Not a bad match though.

Bryan Danielson and Chris Hero was fun as all hell. Hero was using his spots as a way to mock Danielson, while Danielson just completely stretched and beat him. Danielson isn't capable of a bad match.

Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong was meh. I don't care for either guy, but it wasn't bad. The Brainbuster from the Apron through a table to the floor was goddamn retarded though.

Hangmen vs. Delirious, Steen, and Generico was a fun six man. The Hangmen are bland as hell, but it was a fun six man. Nothing really GREAT, but a good formulaic six man that ROH PPV's need a bit more of. Matches need more FORM then just a bunch of guys hitting the biggest moves they can think of for twenty minutes.

Briscoes vs. Romero and Richards was actually tame for Briscoes standards, which made it pretty good. They didn't go insane with spots or killing each other and actually had a good match. As a joke, my friend and I began to count headdrops thinking a Briscoe's match would hit double digits. We only made it to like...six, which is a drastic downturn. Then they did the whacky cutting crap with AOTF some more which killed it for me. Jimmy Jacobs looks like some kind of mad hatter on an acid trick. Doesn't work for me.

The main event was ridiculous. We continued the game from earlier, where we counted the "rebounds" from Nigel, and Lariats. The number was idiotically high. Nigel did somewhere around TWELVE of his "rebound" spots off the ropes, and there were like...seventeen+ lariats in the match. By the end, we just started *LAUGHING* at the absurdity of it all. Morishima in ROH hasn't worked for me since the first match I saw with him in ROH, and this wasn't that much better, which is odd, because Morishima is fantastic in NOAH. It pretty much showed that Danielson was the reason these two had such great matches last year with him. Nigel is really a joke at this point with his "Jawbreaker Lariat" not only being a contrived as hell move, but him having to do it SO MANY TIMES to beat Morishima was just complete and total overkill. If you ignored the stupidity, then maybe a *** match.

It's hard to have a BAD ten dollar ROH show, but they've never come close to the overall greatness of Driven for me.

I'll agree that, overall, Driven was a better show. Briscoes/Steenerico from Driven I'd say is better than the Ladder War, and Danielson/McGuinness from Driven is flat-out awesome. Plus, Driven has the added bonus of not having Age of the Fall, whose - like you said - presence during Undeniable hurt the show.

If you're going to order a Ring of Honor PPV, do it for a combination of Bryan Danielson, Chris Hero (the single greatest heel of the 21st century), the Briscoes, Kevin Steen, El Generico, and WRESTLING.

Age of the Fall makes no sense to me.

For one, their "rebelling" but they haven't told us WHY their rebelling. Considering we're paying ten bucks a pop here, a little explanation would be nice. For two, they didn't show the Briscoe hanging on Man Up which was mind boggling. Again. We're paying ten dollars a pop. On PPV. You can show it. It didn't make me go "Oh, I need to go buy the DVD now!", I instead got the feeling of "...That was some bullshit". Leaving out matches, that's fine...not showing one of the biggest moment's you've ever done even in edited form? That's not fine.

They haven't even explained why the group came together. Why is Necro Butcher with them? Where the hell did Tyler Black come from (I know who he is...but why the sudden emergence in ROH), and why this sudden change of personality for Jacobs?

Unless the upcoming PPV has explanations (which I doubt) then ROH has done a poor, poor job selling this angle to me, someone who doesn't live in the East Coast, and has only gotten the odd DVD before now. People like me should be the primary target of this PPV, but by excluding information and angles, and not explaining things, their alienating me as a viewer.

And if they do those cutaways on the next ROH PPV, I might never buy another one. That was the most annoying and nonsensical thing I have ever seen, and that's saying A LOT. They were confusing. Jarring. Un-nerving, and most importantly, made no fucking sense to what was going on. Not fun.
