Guest NYankees Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I believe that our United States government should impose a baby license that a couple has to apply for before they can have a child. A couple must be approved by meeting certain qualifications before they can have a child. A couple can be M/F, M/M/F and F/F/M. The two partners in the relationship must both have 21 years of age, High School or GED, two years of military, trade school or an Associates Degree, work a combine minimum of 60 hours per week, be in good credit standing and be able to pass a drug test. I feel that if we are able to imply this towards our country, we would be able to eliminate alot of the problems that our society faces. We would be able to cut down on poverty, welfare, etc. This would lead to a better school system, health care and other social reforms due to our govt not wasting money on detriments to society who leach and do not give back. The punishment for having a child without a license would be life in jail where the person works 40 hours per week to pay off their debt to society who would be raising the child. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I'm sorely tempted to just merge this thread with the "Stupid Comments..." thread in CS. NYankees, you do realize this would preclude you from having children, right? Beyond that, neither my mother or father attended college. My dad served in Vietnam, but dropped out of high school. To suggest that society would be better off without me is about as insulting as you can get.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Yes it is. Too many stupid, irresponsible women are popping out multiple babies with multiple un-supportive fathers..what do you suggest be done about that? Nothing. Attempting to create a genetically perfect society is a bad idea, does not work and always backfires. Beyond that, you can not judge a person's ability to parent by a rock set of criteria. Many well-to-do people are unfit parents, many poor people are great parents. And if you create a society of nothing but well-to-do citizens, who does your dirty work? Where do your janitors come from? Your road workers? It's easy to look down on people in society and judge them unfit. It is less fun when someone sets the line somewhere above you. What then? What if I decide with my infinite wisdom that people like NYankees do not fit the standards of my own perfect society?

To suggest that society would be better off without me is about as insulting as you can get. Let me check, I have a Bachelors degree, HS degree, good financial standing and I am over 21 but I am not married. I also said you didn't have to attend college, I said either 2 years of military, 2 years of trade school or an Associates degree. Can you read? Finally, our society is very different to which it was 30 plus years ago. There is zero excuse to be a HS dropout. I dont think it is insulting to have a higher society where only educated or skilled workers with good financial credit and who are drug free are the only ones allowed to have children. OOOOO, I am sorry. We should just keep on letting 15 year old, hs dropout, crack addict prostitutes allowed to keep on having children when they should have their tubes tied and thrown into jail for the next 20 years to pay off to society the hundreds of thousands of dollars that their kids cost. Guest NYankees Report post Posted February 12, 2008 A couple can be M/F, M/M/F and F/F/M. No, it can't. I didn't have the full time earlier to get into everything. The point that I was going to make was that it lets a gay couple have a woman to carry the child and for a lesbian couple to have a male father the child. Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Yes it is. Too many stupid, irresponsible women are popping out multiple babies with multiple un-supportive fathers..what do you suggest be done about that? How about increased availability of birth control and the morning after pill, ending abstinence only sex ed, adoption, & even the occasional shmashmortion. Definitely not creating a government eugenics program, that's for sure.

Not some bitch who has 5 kids. You keep on missing the point about my opinion. It's to encourage people to do something after High School. To get yourself on a path. I fully understand that College isn't for everybody. That is why I provide for either the two years of Military or two years of a Trade School. Please dont take it out on me because your father was a fucking social outcast who couldn't handle 9 periods of English, Lunch, Science, Gym, Home Ec, Study Hall, Health and whatever classes they had because HS was so fucking tough. Finally, if your father couldn't handle something as easy as HS he shouldn't have been parenting children.

He had to fight his way through the ghettos of Chester, PA, dropped out of high school and joined the army to escape his abusive father, and made something of himself. If you think he dropped out of high school because he couldn't handle that, I dare you to say that to his face. And your criteria said 2 years of military, not 18 months. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I like your idea with a little tweak. Instead of jailing people we should not allow the mother to give birth, even if the woman is in labor. This would teach her more of a lesson. Once she's qualified, she can have the baby.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Of course, all of this misses something big. One of the founding principles of our country is that you can rise out of the muck of our society and make yourself something great. In Europe class distinctions meant that once born in a social group, you stayed there. In our country, you can improve upon yourself. A person emigrated to our country, worked their entire life as a laborer, hoping to build a better life for their children. My ancestors worked in the coal mines of northeastern Pennsylvania. My father was a High School dropout, but he has owned his own business for over thirty years. I was the first person in my family to graduate from college. That was the product of generations of hard work, and I take a lot of pride in that. You don't take a group of people and tell them they are unfit. Not everyone can attend college, or a trade school. Real life for many people is much more complicated than that. But in this nation it is all about the opportunity. You can not take that away from anyone.
