Guest Angle is Wrestling Report post Posted June 21, 2002 Am I the only one who thinks Smackdown crowds are completely piped? Especially on Backstage segments, but even now in the ring. The cheering sounds exactly the same each week and it's more like a cry for help than an actual cheer.

Guest What?! Report post Posted June 21, 2002 Just look at the crowd. If they're waving their arms in the air and standing up, the noise is real. If they're sitting still and the noise is still there, it's piped. An example would be Test, Hardcore Holly,....

If they're sitting still and the noise is still there, it's piped. An example would be Test, Hardcore Holly,.... Or an example from last week: When Triple H was in his 'rage... and destroys stuff because he's the Game and all... I hear a 'TRIPLE H!" chant. Then, I see no one in the crowd is saying anything.. well, at least most of the first row (and the ones behind it) were dead silent. I mean.. c'mon. I thought it would be easier to chant "HHH", anyways..
Guest 1000 Faces Report post Posted June 21, 2002 From experience (I've been to two Smackdown tapings this year) ... The crowds for most of the segments are real. However, I would say the 25-50 percent of the backstage segments that are seen on TV are not shown to the crowd in the arena, and thus the crowd for those segments is obviously canned. An example I can offer is from the first Smackdown after No Way Out, the one where Austin hunted down Hall backstage before bringing him to the ring and pouring beer all over him to end the show. In the arena, we were shown everything up to Nash and Hogan hiding in the office and saying "Scott's gone," but we didn't see Austin actually catching Hall and offering him the beer and so forth until we watched the show on TV on Thursday night. So the crowd for all those segments was canned ... not that we wouldn't have reacted that way if shown those segments in the arena, but we just weren't offered the opportunity. Later on ... Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted June 21, 2002 Well I seriously wouldn't put it past the WWF to pipe in crowd cheering/heat/reaction. We all know for a fact they did it on their home video's to erase "boring" chants during main events, and to pipe in "rocky" chants for Rocky MAIVIA.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted June 21, 2002 That's why live shows are so much better. You KNOW who's getting real pops/chants or not. -Shiro

Guest AM The Kid Report post Posted June 21, 2002 When I was at Smackdown a few weeks ago, here in Calgary...we saw all the backstage segments, and the cheers were real. Although I did catch them piping in cheers for HHH and "You Suck" for Angle.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 21, 2002 the wwe may give the crowd noise a little boost at times but for the most part you can see everyone in the arena standing and cheering at the same time.

Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted June 21, 2002 The Hurricaine/Nidia segment where the Nidia was first revealed wasn't played in front of a crowd. It was taped Wednesday while SD was taped Tuesday, but it still got big crowd reactions.
