Guest NoCalMike Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 Ok, well first off, I am the a big Stars Wars mark, so I am not bashing the film, but let me just say, I think movie makers need to get a better grip on the emphasis of using computer graphics and if they insist on using them, please make them look more realistic. Case in Point: Spiderman, the scenes with the Green Goblin flying around, they just don't look that well done and they are very cheesy. Episode II, a lot of the chase scene near the beginning of the film just looks to unrealistic. Now, take a look at T2 on the otherhand, besides the fact that I know that technology doesn't exist, look at how REAL, they make the effects look with the T-1000. I mean if I didn't already know that the T-1000 was fake, watching that movie would seriously make me wonder if those things were really out there. I just think computer graphics are not advanced enough yet(or they just can't complete them in a reasonable amount of time) for what they are used for. Mostly for movies like Star Wars and Spiderman.
Guest pochorenella Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 While I agree with you that some of Spider-Man's effects weren't that good (specially Peter running and jumping around buildings), I really have to say that I see no fault whatsoever with Episode II's effects. I thought they were perfect and on the mark, and very realistic. Yoda kicked mucho ass, IMO. I'm also a huge Star Wars fan as well as a Spider-Man fan for as long as I can remember. I happen to own the T2 Special Edition DVD, and while it's one of my all-time faves, you can find some flaws with the effects (the morphing technique was on its early stages), but that really doesn't detract anything from the movie itself. Anyway, just my opinion. Feel free to contribute anything, people.
Guest Ripper Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 Computer Graphics are good enough to handle it, just the budgets would have to be SOOO high that they have to cut corners somewhere. I personally looked at Episode I (i'm not a star wars fan at all) for the effects and thought they were pretty crappy. They seemed to have done a horrid job on light matching. i am not sure about the second one, but the first was disturbing. Another problem will always be a lack of reference material. I mean, you can SAY that the Goblin scenes were fake looking, but how do we know what a guy in a goblin suit would look like flying over a city. Things that are real are usually animated well(see movies like fight club, or in T2 the animators had mercury and other viscous metals to observe and see how it reacted.) while with non realistic things the artist discretion must be used. They also appeared to be trying to acheive a kinda comic book look in the Spiperman movie, so that might have tone down on the realism a bit. The animation in T2 was pretty easy...all they had to do was throw on a reflective map, and since real world reflections aren't perfect, thier light matching didn't have to be exact and made it easier to achieve. Ok, I am going off on my animator talk now...just trust me. I personally wish that ever movie, show, commercial, and everything in pring should start using 3d Graphics...more work for me.
