Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted June 21, 2002 Motoko Baba is retiring as AJPW President, who ought to take over for her?
Guest wolverine Report post Posted June 21, 2002 I honestly think she should bury the company once and for all, since it's been dead for two years anyway.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted June 21, 2002 From what I've seen of recent AJPW, the only really good workers are Taiyo Kea, Johnny Smith, and Kaz Hayashi.
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted June 21, 2002 Kawada deserves a chance, we have no idea how good his booking is, but it can't be much worse than right now and he could bring back the traditional and great 'kings road' style. Just don't let Mutoh or Kojima anywhere near the book, please god.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted June 21, 2002 Speaking of Kawada, I was watching my CC'95 tapes recently, and that man was freaking scary. I swear, he was holding absolutely nothing back on his chops, kicks, etc. Incredible. That Kawada vs. Akiyama match is quite awesome, and better than any male match of 2001, yet was merely a blip on the radar in 1995. My how times have changed.... Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted June 21, 2002 YES! I have recently become obsessed with that exact same match, it is a godlike performance from Kawada and I am told he has been even better at times. It scares me how good he was.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted June 22, 2002 I voted for Masa Fuchi. He gives me the impression that he will continue the "King's Road" tradition very well. Plus I still want Kawada to compete. What can I say, I'm a huge Kawada mark. If Kawada becomes president he probrably won't compete anymore. And yes, the CC'95 Kawada/Akiyama match was very kick ass compared to what has been dished out this year worldwide. Kawada also kicks the other Lords of Heaven (Misawa, Kobashi, Taue) asses quite a bit during this particular carnival.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted June 22, 2002 And yes, the CC'95 Kawada/Akiyama match was very kick ass compared to what has been dished out this year worldwide. When I said that Kawada/Akiyama was better than any male match of 2001, I meant to say of what I've seen. I still haven't seen the Marufuji vs. Takaiwa match from 12/9/01 that has been pimped very heavily. Probably the only male match from last year that I liked just as much as Kawada/Akiyama would've been the Austin vs. Benoit Smackdown match.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted June 22, 2002 When I talk about Kawada/Akiyama from CC'95, I mean in comparison to matches in 2002. 2001 had quite a few matches that were better than the CC'95 match I am referring to.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted June 22, 2002 2001 had quite a few matches that were better than the CC'95 match I am referring to. I realize that, but unfortuately, I haven't gotten around to Hokuto-Satomura or the Ito-Momoe or Toyota-Ito JGP matches yet, let alone all of the Ran YuYu or Yoshiko Tamura goodness that's out there. So I've still got a long way to go with 2001, but from the men's side, Kawada-Akiyama is better than all that I've seen but Benoit-Austin from Smackdown IMO. Guest TheHulkster Report post Posted June 25, 2002 I voted for Tenryu for the sole fact that he's been in AJPW longer than anyone and could probably bring some good ideas due to his experience in the business. Kawada is a wild card, but it might work. Mutoh has a screw loose and would probably book 4-5 evil monster from hell battles champion of hope and prosperity, making every AJPW show look like an episode of Power Rangers. Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted July 3, 2002 Anyone but Keiji Mutoh. I like the guy but some of his ideas to "Americanize" AJPW aren't good. To be fair, Tenryu is just as bad. I say Kawada, he's 100% AJPW.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted July 3, 2002 I beleive that Baba will either pick Mutoh, or Fuchi. When Tenryu left AJPW to form SWS, Baba swore that Tenryu would never wrestle in AJPW again. After Misawa formed NOAH, Mrs. Baba brought back Tenryu, probably because they were in such bad shape and needed drawing power. But I can't see her giving Tenryu power and disrespecting her late husbands wishes
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted July 4, 2002 I beleive that Baba will either pick Mutoh, or Fuchi. When Tenryu left AJPW to form SWS, Baba swore that Tenryu would never wrestle in AJPW again. After Misawa formed NOAH, Mrs. Baba brought back Tenryu, probably because they were in such bad shape and needed drawing power. But I can't see her giving Tenryu power and disrespecting her late husbands wishes It's far too late for that. After Tenryu was given the book by Motoko Baba he pretty much took out his real-life grievences with Baba and ran lots of angles exploiting how much he could spit on AJPW's tradition. And now with Kojima and Mutoh booking AJPW into a fucking circus, there's not much more she could do to spit on her husband's wishes short of taking a shit on the triple crown and doing the hokey pokey. Not that Mutoh hasn't done worse recently. And Kawada isn't the smartest business man in the world, considering how many times he's been screwed over by Baba, Misawa, Tenryu, and now Mutoh. Fuchi as President and Kawada as Vice President is the ideal situation (other than the entire thing clossing down for lack of anything good to contribute to the wrestling business), because Kawada wouldn't have to handle everything but could still do his part to help restore SOMETHING into the promotion and Fuchi could do the same while handling business issues. With the right booking, Kojima and Tenryu could get back to a levle some-what resembling "wrestlers" as opposed to fasion designers and guys who enjoy seeing Giant Baba turn over in his grave as much as possible. Even Mutoh might have something to contribute if he just does tags, maybe. I dunno, it's all pretty bad and I highly doubt she'll pick Kawada or Fuchi for anything, so oh well, what the hell. Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted July 4, 2002 Misawa wanted to modernise AJ and Baba wouldn't let him so he left and formed NOAH. She turned around and let Mutoh do it and look at AJ, Kojima got a chance and we got BAPESTAR. Given that NOAH has strobe lights, a green ring, and some shitty booking how much worse could AJ have gotten? If Motoko Baba gives a flyling fuck about AJ (she must have at one point to not let Misawa change it) then she'll let Fuchi and Kawada take it over.
