Parents fight over gang ties...

Recommended Posts

http://www.myfoxcolorado.com/myfox/pages/N...mp;pageId=3.2.1

"COMMERCE CITY - A man accused in a disturbance at a video store where his ex-girlfriend worked had argued with her before, allegedly about which gang their son would claim, police said.

Witnesses said a man knocked over a computer and a magazine stand at the store Saturday and yelled obscenities at the woman.

A police report says the man and woman have a 4-year-old son but split because they disagreed on how to raise their boy.

When officer Daniel Swift asked the woman what she meant by that, she said that the two belong to different street gangs.

"They could not agree on which gang the baby would claim," Swift said.

Joseph Manzanares, 19, pleaded guilty Tuesday to disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to a year of probation. "

Yet another reason to require people to get licenses before having children. I think the most shocking part is that the mother apparently has a job.

What, you disagree? Why we in the US are so tolerant of this divergent form of sub-humanity sucking our tax dollars and resources in 2008 is beyond me.

Tough shit. I'll explain it to you. We are all part of a community and we have an obligation to take care of each other. Without the community, you don't exist and neither does "your" money. When people are hurt, by violence or powerlessness (institutional violence), we are all diminished.

This parental license you speak of is so off the wall and morally abhorrent I don't know where to begin.

Of course, I disagree. It's an incredibly stupid idea. How would you even enforce such a thing?

The goverment comes to your door, and if you don't have a license, they kick you in the stomach?

Nah, just a fine or jail time, someting along those lines.

I mean, did you look at the guy's picture in the link? Do you honestly think he'll contribute anything to society, ever? Why should someone like that be allowed to pro-create?

Forced sterilisation is a bit much, but I can see the viewpoint: you get these women with 8 or 9 kids, by several different father's, and they can't afford to feed or clothe them but keep having children anyway. The kids themselves end up the same way because they're raised in fatherless, fractured homes by mothers that don't care whether they do well at school or stay out late all night.

I'd really try to get more adoptions, and lose a lot of the red tape. Social Services will tolerate a ridiculous amount before they take custody away from a bad parent.

On shows like Maury the children are treated like inconviences, by both parents, and I just think why not take a child like that and give it to a couple who'll see a new baby as blessing?

Why don't we just try mandatory sex education classes that actually tell kids the truth, and then see what happens from there?

What does a fine accomplish? Just make more people broke? Do you put the pregnant woman in jail? What happens to the baby when born?

And yes, that mugshot makes him look like quite the degenerate! We should cut off his penis!

Now that's just crazy talk!

I actually find this story fun, it's like a modern day Romero and Juliet only with a child instead of the suicide.

Back to the actual topic, though...

The idea that someone (even a teenage parent) would actually want their kid to claim a gang is pretty despicable. I've heard all the arguments about innocent reasons why people join gangs and how kids need a sense of belonging to a family, etc., but street gangs are criminal organizations. To raise a kid into one is grounds for the local DFS to step in and try to make sure this child actually gets a chance in life.

Wait one fucking minute. I did a wiki search, and Commerce City, Colorado is a midsized town based around a couple of oil refineries. It's way up in the mountains, and the total population is less than forty thousand people. What the hell would it be doing with not one, but two different street gangs?

We already had this thread.

Sweet Christ did we ever, and it was sickeningly painful that time too. Invader, just drop it. You're starting to get like the Prime Guy with your obsession on this one issue.

I don't know where you got that from, but Commerce City is just north of Denver's northeast corner, nowhere near the mountains.

I'll tell you how it happened, though. The area is basically built around two or three failed towns, an oil refinery, a former military weapons plant/Superfund site, Rocky Mountain Arsenal, a dog track, and the former Stapleton and current DIA airports. It's more or less home to a lot of industrial working class, and is just dank and depressing. There isn't much to do except drugs; meth is allegedly big there, like in a lot of similar towns, though you can probably get anything there. Check it out on Google Maps or something and you'll see just how close it is to everything and nothing. If you've ever seen Tom Goes to the Mayor, it reminds me of Jefferton. It's admittedly improving some, but I still wouldn't want to live there.

Wait.

This, Invader's most recent foray into fascism, inches him ever closer to a Justify Your Existence thread like the one Agent made for EHME.

I agree, though I think that C-Bacon's knee-jerk socialist cant ("You may have earned it but it's not YOUR money! We're going to force you to give it to us for the COMMON GOOD!") and Y2Jerk's inevitable liberal bullshit ("Just educate them! We really can perfect humanity! YES WE CAN!") makes them worthy of such threads as well.

Yeah, that is part of what I was getting at. I just don't understand the tolerance some people have on this board. It doesn't compute with me.

Oh, and I don't need to justify my existence to anyone.

Is it bad that I 100% agree about Parenting Licenses.

Dammit, you need a license to DRIVE A CAR.

You don't need a license to RAISE A CHILD FOR 18 YEARS.

Emphasis mine, but seriously. It's rather logical. We are overcrowding the planet, too many people are reproducing, it is either this or use the government's usual way of thinning the herd - start a war.

I like parenting licenses.

There is ZERO way to predict who can be a good parent and who can't. What exactly do you put on the test that any moron couldn't answer? It's a waste of time and money. Not to mention the constant lawsuits that will be filed which means millions more spent on court costs just trying to explain a licensing system that will make no logical sense to begin with.

It'll accomplish nothing but being another useless state and government program that spends millions to billions of dollars every year to be nothing more than worthless.

Yeah, I still haven't seen anyone actually suggest how this is supposed to work.

To get a driver licenses you have to pass a test. What test do you give out for parenting.

And the thing I hate about threads like this. The reason this is news is because it is very uncommon and strange. You don't point to something that is completely not the norm and say "See, this is another reason we should institute a ridiculous plan for EVERYONE in the country, because there are stupid people in this town in Colorado." I would see if this was a everyday occurance.

It's easy to do frankly. It's part of my 6 part test for humanity.

At age 18 everyone begins the exam.

Part 1 - basics. Purest basics - language basics, simple hygene - basically the stuff you should know if you made it past 2nd grade. Failure to get 60% or more on this exam = termination.

Yes, it's horrible and cruel. But dammit this is my program, and I'm horrible and cruel. Deal.

Welfare state? NOT ANYMORE.

The next five parts are how you earn your rights.

1) Mathematics (again, this is SAT stuff at it's hardest) - right to your own finances

2) History and Social Studies - right to vote (how can you decide on government if you dont' know anything about it?)

3) Basics of human body and mind (think intro to biology and psychiatry - really easy stuff) - Right to parent

4) Science & technology - Right to patents and copyrights/fair use (this exam could solve a lot of DMCA issues...) & right to bear arms (want to use a gun? tell me how ballistics work)

5) Reading Comprehension - Right to Attorney/self representation - additional requirement for driving licenses.

There's more but I'm going off memory and can't remember it all.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "Wait, what happens if someone passes part one, but fails all the 'rights' tests?".

Good question. Better answer.

"Welcome to the Army, soldier."

Who needs a draft?

K, so wait.

In order for me to have control of my own finances, I have to pass high-level, SAT math. Like, really hard stuff. Just so I can decide whether I want to spend $50 on food or power this week. Just to be able to decide how I spend the money that someone gave me for doing work for them.

But to raise kids, I only have to pass the sped Psychology class from first-year university? I think you've got things backwards here. You said that parents should need a license to raise kids, now you say that getting said license should be really easy? That doesn't make any sense to me.

How many of anyone's ancestors would pass such an exam?

Beethoven's mother was a syphillitic lunger who had four children die on her.

Nature finds a way.

If everyone takes the exam at 18, what about the people that have kids before 18? Are they exempt or something?

And not to point out the already obvious, you can be dumb as a brick and be a great parent, at the same time you can be a rich genius that happens to like to touch kids. I think any test that says smart kid toucher can have kids but dumb, good parent can't is wrong.
