Parents fight over gang ties...

In fact, much like parenting, I realize that I'm woefully unqualified to do it.

Well, of course you're not qualified; your fake vagina doesn't go to a uterus.

*sigh* adoption and freezing. I -could- if I wanted to. Still... heeeeell no.

so anyway...

You want an even better idea? My first draft of this assignment was to simply enforce a "No reproduction worldwide for five years" temporary effect. Without any way to give the 'law' teeth I had to go back to the drawing board. The result is the mutated killing SAT machine you read about.

Assignment. This was a class assignment folks. Got an A+

We had to make our own "Modest Proposal". Seeing the reactions to this, I see why i did so well. Huzzah.

Still, to this day I see someone with a baby, and cry a bit on the inside. Little monsters stealing my oxygen.

Out of curiousity to the thread killer - what issue(s) do you care about? I've had this conversation because there's issues I just flat out don't care about. For instance:

The war in Iraq - yeah it sucks, but it is doing it's main job - killing people. I hate war, but I also hate overpopulation. Weighing both I find war loses out so I become rather "meh" about the whole thing. It doesn't affect me.

If overpopulation doesn't affect you like war doesn't affect me, what would you go after? I find people's personal missions fascinating.

You hate overpopulation? Overpopulation keeps you up at night? Do you attend anti-overpopulation rallies?

I see someone with a baby, and cry a bit on the inside. Little monsters stealing my oxygen.

Oh shut up. You're officially under the board Sword of Damocles for all of this nonsense.

Yeah, China fuckin' rocks.

Their government is run poorly and their business sector is crazy, but that one child thing is, on paper, a pretty good theory. It would be interesting to see how it would be managed in a fairly stable country, like one of the western / northern European states or America.

Also, about that teen pregnancy thing: condoms cost $1 at any store around. Pull out. Get the pill. Whatever. There are so many ways to avoid pregnancy, yet some people still gamble and pay the consequences.

Where the hell are you doing your shopping? Condoms are NOWHERE near that cheap in the continental U.S. Maybe Hawaii is different.

Please let me know how to get to the dollar condom place. I would like to frequent this place and subscribe to its newsletter.

You have to buy the bulk package from Costco. Last time I bought them, they were like $3.50 for a package of three.

Do not defend war as a means of combating overpopulation. That is the worst argument ever. Go fight in a war if you hate overpopulation that much.

Especially since, once again, it doesn't account for that many loss of lives to actively combat overpopulation.

When have a problem with overpopulation, what they really have a problem with is advancements in the medical field.

I do believe that we are procreating at a lower rate than we were, say, 100-200 years ago. People are just living longer.

So a active way for you to fight it is if you ever get sick or need a doctor...don't go. Thats fighting the good fight.

That, and that it's completely unethical and wrong to think that wars are justified for that purpose.

I think that the problem really lies not with making medical advances (I can't really tell if you're being serious by saying that it is a problem), but with urbanization. 50% of the people in the world live in cities. With that, you're going to have health problems and you're going to have a mess of other things to deal with. But that's not to say that proper planning can't help combat that (see: Brazil). Maybe we need to see a resurgence in the power of suburbs: not only towns that cradle comfortable living, but also cradle successful businesses and economies. Not to say they don't already, though. Just distribute some of the power of cities outwards.

Yeah, 1.5 children per couple isn't exactly a lot. Me? I'm doing my part by vowing to never, ever have children.

I don't think its a "problem" but I think it is the reason for the over population. People are living longer. Simple as that. In the olden days, families would have 10-12 kids. These days, your average family isn't going to do that. So its not the baby making doing it. Its the fact that people are living alot longer thus we have more people. And its just silly to complain about unless you are going to go and blow up hospitals.

But if Annie wants to help the problem, then don't take any drugs to heal you or go to doctors. Then die. I promise you that overpopulation wouldn't bother you anymore.

That's true. I'm not going to debate people are living longer. There are some more factors, but that's a major one.

Just because you got an A+ on an assignment doesn't mean that your opinion is valid. If I was so inclined I could visit some white supremacy websites and find out what the major talking points are for holocaust denial. I could then present a well written paper claiming the holocaust didn't happen. That wouldn't mean it didn't, it would just mean I can regurgitate opinions in the form of an essay. An assignment can be graded based on a lot of different criteria, and how it holds up to rebuttal obviously cannot be one of those criteria.

I don't care about overpopulation because it doesn't affect me in the slightest. I'm Canadian. Canada is not even remotely overpopulated, we're one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. I wouldn't say that I "care" about a lot of issues, in that I don't get personally upset about political or social issues, but the ones I have a definite stance on are the ones that actually affect me personally and the world immediately around me.

As far as the war in Iraq, that's a topic for another thread. I supported the war when it started, but it has been mismanaged since then. However, none of the reasons I supported the war in Iraq had anything to do with population control. As I said earlier, if you actually worry about population control so much that you think war is a good way to control it, then you're either trolling or it's time for an increase in your medication, because that argument (if you can even call it that) is beyond asinine.

I don't have a personal mission. I have opinions based on my viewpoint, and I think they're well thought out and correct.

Tough shit. I'll explain it to you. We are all part of a community and we have an obligation to take care of each other. Without the community, you don't exist and neither does "your" money. When people are hurt, by violence or powerlessness (institutional violence), we are all diminished.

Yeah.......look, we're not socialists yet in America, so lots of us don't buy into this concept that we need to take care of the worthless shits in our society just because they managed to hit the lottery by immigrating / being born here.

Take the kid away from those two. It might have a chance. Let's hope natural selection takes care of the parents before they can breed again.

I don't even know if "C-Bacon" actually lives in Canada...I read somewhere a long while back that he isn't even really Canadian. Besides, we're not a Socialist country yet. We have a Conservative minority government, and most polls suggest that if we had a national election today, the Conservatives would actually win a majority. I'm not saying that this country doesn't have Socialist tendencies, and a few years back we even had a Socialist provincial government (that failed miserably) but we're not all the way there...yet.

I consider overpopulation the top threat facing the human race (not counting the asteroid a 13 year old German boy showed NASA has a 1:420 shot of destroying us) and something needs to be done...

So my solution is to keep life from starting in the first place.

Wait, that seemed almost like a Marney post by quick glance from Annie.... this is fucking scary

Whoa there. Don't lump me in with the so-called "transsexual." I disagree with practically every word in every post he types.

By the way, "Annie," 100% of the world's people could live in a land area the size of the former Yugoslavia if they were willing to accept a population density equivalent to NYC. I suggest you rethink your priorities.

You are comparing the lives of thousands to the lives of Millions that you would sacrifice through your stupid ideas. Nothing on your "test" would determine if someone can be a good parent or not. you would deny the lives of millions of kids.

We lose HOW many to execution and war? A couple of dozen a year?

And just because a couple of guys saw something and said "SEE!!! THERE IS NO FREE WILL" doesn't make it fact.

And the decision making process was carried out before the decision was made....REALLY??????!?!????

This.

No one ever gets the irony.

Irony right backatcha, boy.

By my math only about 2.5 billion would fit.

Fine, then we grab the bordering countries and make a go of it.

Really, we've been seeing this "too many people" crap for centuries now. Wasn't Ehrlich's '60s embarrassment enough for these "overpopulation" idiots?

Irony right backatcha, boy.

I was fine until this part.

See, no - my opinion isn't valid. Nor have I ever asked for it to be validated. I'm off the charts - and I understand that. This is why I shouldn't be in politics. My idea would never be implimented, nor should it be probably.

But it's my idea and I like it. Be glad that I'm taking myself and my genes out of the pool if it irritates you that much.

However, all this back and forth and prick-waving on the internet basically ends up in the same position, regardless of whoever 'wins' - which is nowhere as we're all fucktards on a wrestling messageboard. Never forget that. The more energy we put into this, the more we prove that we're the chaff of humanity and should be deservedly culled.

However.

Marney got personal, and made to me what seemed like a rather bigoted post. I don't take kindly to being called "Boy", "Man", or any other permutation of the gender I've fought long and hard to leave behind me.

Thankfully, since I'm being ridiculed by someone a half-step above Queen LeeLee on the social ranking scale, I'm not particularly bothered. But for people that matter - and on this site the only people's opinions I care about is the SWF and possibly Milky - "Boy" and "Man" and other strong male identifiers tend to piss me off.

EDIT: damn. too many apostrophes.

I don't want to come off as though I'm attacking you for your decision as well, but do you realize that no matter how many surgeries you have, you still have a Y chromosome, and are therefore still a male? Neither "boy" nor "man" are inaccurate.

Nor are they accurate - Jamie Lee Curtis was born with (and presumably still has) a Y chromosome, although born female. No offense taken, just lettin' you know.

I don't expect society to ever understand gender variance as long as gender is constantly seen as binary. Which it will. So I just aim for acceptance. I can't describe what growing up and feeling trans (and all the horror that goes with it) just as much as you probably can't describe what growing up and living 'normally' would feel like. Because it just is - how do you describe being a man when you're a man? You're a man. You just take it as fact, and I don't blame you for it. I took it as fact that I was female, in a male body. So I worked to fix the issue. *shrugs*

People are weird, eh?

*salutes Teal-y Dan*

Workin' on it sir! Workin' on it.

So you use a wired article to tell someone their argument that includes free will doesn't hold up but then use a Hollywood urban legend to support yours.

Not really a strong argument, eh?

So not only are you opposed to reality (having your dick chopped off does not magically turn you into a woman) but you're also opposed to your own opinions? Huh.

Oh believe me I am.

Pity that Leelee and I just happen to be two people who have what you can never have, h'm?

Uh no. Her children may be adopted but that in no way proves that she can't have children. There can be moral reasons to choose adoption over natural childbirth - maybe she just feels that there are so many orphans in the world that she might as well take care of some of them?

This silly, baseless rumor has as much basis to it (as the Snopes article says) as the contention that the fact that the Atlantic Ocean exists somehow proves that a particular ship sank in it.
