Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 21, 2002 Okay, so me and my friends are making a movie this summer. Nothing really big, just a movie about high school politics, love, and the cruelty that high schoolers display towards one another. I'm playing the character of Matt, who is sort of the clairvoyant of this film, as he sees what's going on almost all of the time. He's a metalhead and a horror movie fan, and he's also a virgin that's trying to get laid in a somewhat PeeWee (reference to Porky's, not Paul Reubens) kind of way. My 2 questions are: 1. What should be the title of the movie? 2. Should I suggest that Matt be the overall narrator, like at the beginning and end of the movie? Possible titles include: Teenage Wasteland FU High Franklin: The High School Years (since the town I live in is Franklin, I suggested we make a series of movies, with each one taking place in this town) Any other suggestions? I just need to talk to Shannon, who I'm helping write the script, so I can suggest the "Matt = narrator" idea and possible titles.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted June 22, 2002 After polishing the script, after shooting, and after editing, would be a good time to think up a title for the film.
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted June 22, 2002 I agree. The title is the least important part. Actually *make* the movie first.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted June 23, 2002 Karnage and C.H.U.D. are right, but heres a suggestion anyway: Losers In Life
Guest godthedog Report post Posted June 23, 2002 avoid narration whenever possible. film is a visual medium: don't tell your story with words, tell it with images. having a narrator is usually just a lazy trick that screenwriters use, and when done it rarely adds anything to the film. Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 23, 2002 I don't mean narrator as in how a documentary has a narrator. I mean a narrator at the beginning and end of a film, to help set-up the story and just give some minor insight into the movie. The Crow, Spider-Man, and even Road Trip are examples of what I mean by "narrator."
Guest Karnage Report post Posted June 23, 2002 Umm...film and record the narraration later. Just wondering, do you plan on submitting it to a film festival or anything? It could be the next Fubar or Clerks if it's a good movie.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 24, 2002 First we're going to make it on VHS for us, just a bunch of friends making a serious movie. If it's any good, maybe we could get a budget for it instead of just using stuff we already have. I hope it comes out good. The script's looking okay so far, but there's a little less dialogue then I'd like. Shannon seems to just want to get the script done by July, which as we all know is 2 weeks away, so she's rushing it a little bit. If the short one we make comes out good, I'll try to make the script longer (I've been told I have a knack for dialogue). And I think it's more of a knock-off of Cruel Intentions and Jawbreaker than anything else.
