*Unlike Clarke, Suter, Roenick, and Samuelsson, I like Theo. His knee-sliding celebration after scoring in OT is one of my favourite hockey highlights ever. Fuckin' Theo Fleury is a longstanding inside joke - a buddy of mine wanted to take his then-girlfriend on a date, but had no money. He thought his 1990 Pro Set Theo Fleury card would pay for said date, if traded in at a card shop. It did not. This was Theo's fault.

** I like him. JJ does not.

I'm in. I'd like to do 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, 2 goalies, and 1 coach. But I'm down for whatever.

Count me in ... and while I'm pretty laid-back about roster sizes & whatnot, I do think having a full roster makes sense (12+6+2, plus a coach).

Era cap, or can I pick Joe Malone, "One Eye" Frank McGee and George Hainsworth?

I think players that are too old-school would be detrimental to your cause. If we're doing this the same way the NBA one is done, we'd be agreeing on a "best team" winner at the end, correct? And if the person isn't well known by the masses, it might hinder your chances of winning.

Right now, since my 3-day non-stop work marathon is now over.

Let's do the 12-6-2-1 roster. The same guy can't be drafted twice under player/coach rules, as mentioned. You can draft an ex-player as a coach (or vice-versa) to your liking. For example, if you'd rather have Guy Carbonneau beind your bench instead of a two-way centre, go right ahead.

Snake-like order draft, which I just drew at random.

Clock will be 24 hours - starting at 1 am eastern on May 15. Feel free to speed things up and submit your pick if it's your turn. Anyone who misses two straight picks will be disqualified, and have their roster thrown back in the pool.

CC, lead us off.

Oh my God, are you serious? I get to pick first? Really? And here I was just hoping for a top-5 pick.

OK then...this wasn't quite the no-brainer that it would seem, but close:

Mario Lemieux, Centre.

Arguably the most talented player to ever play hockey(IMO he is)... Problay would've selected him 1st overall had I had the 1st pick aswell. He is the perfect player to build a team around.

I'm going to go against the grain and start off between the pipes:

I don't like him personally, but he's, in my opinion, the best goalie of all time. Even though I've cooled off on 'wins' as a stat, 534 is still nearly 18 years of 30-win seasons (and he played in an era with ties). Add that to three Conn Smythes - no one ever came to play like St. Patrick.

Angle, the floor is yours.

While I'm not sure if we'll even get to my pick over the weekend, I want to give y'all the caveat in advance regardless ...

I don't have internet access on weekends and thus if my pick comes up, I'll probably be unable to make my selection before Monday. I'll try to get online at some point between now & then to limit the down-time, but I rarely go online on the weekends so can't guarantee anything.

I was tempted to go with Bobby Orr here but I'll go with my original pick (and it's one I would have made whether I was a Wings fan or not):

howe_gordie.jpg

Gordie Howe, RW

801 goals

1049 assists

1850 points

Six time Hart Trophy winner

Six time Art Ross Trophy winner

Named to the All Star team 23 times (including 12 first team nominations)

Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, 1972

Namesake of the Gordie Howe hat trick
