Right, I picked up the MST3K DVD for "Manos" The Hands of Fate Thursday at the mall. I watched it, and the movie is so bad, it scarred me for life. In a good way, though. Anyways, I found some facts about Hal P. Warren (writer, director, producer, and star)and friends.

-Warren, a fertilizer salesman from El Paso, made a bet with his friend he could make a popular horror film on an extremely minimal budget.

Me thinks he lost that bet.

-The real reason Reynolds, John (Torgo) appears to have big knees and walks funny is because his character is supposed to be a satyr. Reynolds designed his own prosthetics to make himself look like he had goat's feet. (Note how the wife gasps when she first looks down his feet, which the viewer does not get to see.)

It's still BIG KNEES~! though.

-Filmed entirely with a handheld camera that could only record thirty seconds of film at a time. The film was shot without sound; all the lines were later dubbed by only six or so people.

Quick, what's the sound of one man laughing? The same as Hal Warren!

-Three stars of the film committed suicide shortly after shooting was completed: John Reynolds (Torgo), Joyce Molleur (teenager in car), and the model that played the Master's first wife.

Can't poke fun at that...

-The film was shot in two and a half months with a budget of about $19,000.

Months? I think you mean hours.

-The movie was given a gala premiere in El Paso upon its release, and many of the local dignitaries were on hand. Part way into the film, many people in the audience began to heckle the movie. Many of the film's stars and crewmembers snuck out before the end out of embarrassment.

I wonder if Hal P. Warren ever felt guilty over killing three people?

-The IMDB URL for "Manos, the Hands of Fate", ends in 666. Coincidence?

Yes.

-The scenes featuring two teenagers who are hassled by the cops while necking in their car were added because actress Joyce Molleur broke her leg during filming, and was unable to perform her original role.

Oh! That still doesn't make th scenes have ANY significance to anything!

Yessir, "Manos" The Hands of Fate (or Hands The Hands of Fate) is the kind of movie that drives decent people and Torgoes to suicide, and gives fertilizer salesmen hope which they should never receive. God bless MST3K for giving this "movie" an audience for the first time since El Paso, 1966.

'manos' is, indeed, the single worst movie ever made. never in my life has it been so difficult and painful to watch a movie as when i watched 'manos'. and i even watched the mst3k version.

the funny thing is, i've seen the episode so much that now i'm totally numbed to the badness of the movie and can watch it just like any other episode. i had way too much free time on my hands in high school.
