MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Looks like Stephane Patry's attempts at getting back into promoting was a rousing success..

MONTREAL - A riot nearly ensued at the inaugural Titans Fighting card Friday night at Mel's Studio in Montreal, Quebec. The melee was narrowly avoided as controversy arose at the culmination of the heavyweight main event tilt between James Thompson and Steve Bosse.

Thompson immediately went for a takedown and successfully dropped Bosse on his back. But this development caused widespread confusion in the live crowd.

Up until the weigh-ins held one day prior to the Feb. 6 card, modified kickboxing rules were in effect with no ground and pound permitted. The rules were changed to regular mixed martial arts rules, but the fighters had reportedly agreed to keep the action standing to respect one another's preparation heading into the event.

Despite all the changes made to the card, fans were not informed, which caused mass confusion once the action spilled to the ground.

Every fight of the night remained standing with no attempt at ground and pound until the Thompson vs. Bosse featured bout.

That's when all hell broke loose.

Referee Yves Lavigne circled the two fighters on the ground and fans responded with heavy boos in support of hometown hero Bosse. Fans were under the assumption that the fight needed to be stood up.

Moments later, a plethora of cans and bottles came flying into the ring with the action being stopped immediately. One fan even threw his steel chair into the ring, which nearly hit both Lavigne and Thompson.

Bosse was irate at the development and attempted to throw a can at Thompson, but he missed. Both fighters were then separately escorted backstage.

The capacity crowd of approximately 1,200 expected the fight to be restarted several minutes later. But to their dismay, it was declared a no contest.

Additional police were called to the venue to ensure the fuming MMA fans would not continue to protest the decision outside.

To protect fighter safety amidst all the disappointed fans, all media was escorted from the building and post-fight reactions from Bosse, Thompson, Lavigne and promoter Stephane Patry were unattainable.

Initially called Strikebox, the promotion's name was changed two days prior to the event due to trademark issues, possibly related to its similarity to California's Strikeforce promotion.

Even the people who transcribe the text for closed captioning have no fucking clue what Michael Schiavello is saying during K-1 matches, at several points settling on (INDISCERNIBLE).

Storytime.

One of the more interesting characters from the club days was a dude who went by the name of Posh. I have absolutely no idea what his actual name was, but I think it works better that his name was that ridiculous. Anyway, the guy was something of a cross between your typical hotheaded Bro, and a faggy metrosexual. At different points, the guy had tried to get a 16 year old girlfriend into the club, and tried to make out with the gay bartender Donnie. Anyway, the dude was absolutely HATED by every single security guard at the place, but for whatever reason, the female bartenders loved him, and so he couldn't simply get stomped out.

My first interaction with him came during a relatively normal, if busy, night. It wasn't unusual for guys to get tired of waiting in line to use our small restroom, and thus I often had to deal with guys getting in my face with varying degrees of hostility over the situation. However, Posh actually managed to surprise me with the sheer bravado he showed in acting as though the typical rules of club didn't apply to him. Dude comes right at me (whereas the line to the men's room runs along the wall, out of view, to my right), and when I try to stop him, he simply says "Get the fuck out of the way." I grabbed his arm as he tries to go inside, at which point he follows up with "If you lay your hands on me again, I'll see to it that you're fired." Rather than take a chance over someone who may actually have some pull, I motion for another security guard over to explain what happened, see if he knows that guy, and ask how I should deal with him. Upon opening the door, the security guard seems to immediately recognize the guy, who looks back from the urinal just long enough to flip me off. The security guard explains to him that though I'm relatively new, he needs to treat me with the same respect he would have for any of the other guards there. This asshole responds by rolling his eyes, and offering me a limp-wristed handshake, whilst sighing out "I'm Posh, and I don't wait in line." After he scurried off, the security guard told me a little about the guy, mostly involving how every other guard wants desperately to kick the shit out of him. Later that night, I relay what happened to my brother, who informs me that he already heard about the situation, and then shared his history with Posh:

When my brother first started working at the club, Posh had tried to cut in line and walk right into the club, at which point my brother stopped him. He immediately copped an attitude, and got into a verbal exchange with my brother. Eventually, he started acting like he wanted to get physical.

Posh: *squaring up* "You must not know who the fuck I am."

My brother: "No, you must not know who I am, so you'd better fucking ask around about me. Because I will fucking kill you and stick you in the trunk of your fucking car."

Anyway, the owner eventually came out and let the guy in. Posh asked him about my brother, and Zeus told him "Yeah, he's not the type of guy to say shit like that and not mean it." This rightly freaked Posh out, who tried to shake my brother's hand as he left that night. When my brother didn't extend his hand, Posh asked "Oh, so that's how it is?" "Fuckin' A, that's how it is. Don't think anything is squashed." Posh had done little after that to endear himself to my brother or any other security guards, and upon finding out what happened that between Posh and myself, my brother told him that I was his little brother, so he had better watch his step around me as much as he did around my brother. Me and Posh had another encounter a couple of weeks later (which I can't really recall), thus leading to him receiving yet another warning from my brother that he was on thin ice, and that my brother had better not hear about him starting shit with me again.

Things came to a head weeks later during the owner's birthday party. This was the very first night that I ever got drunk at work, as the owner was so incredibly wasted early on that it was seen as a green light for every other member of staff to get shit faced and have a good time. It started out innocently enough, as my brother gave me a "Joose" (10% abv energy drink) to start the night off, and then let one of the door girl, who haded wanted to get me drunk for a while, do shots with me a little later on (she stated at one point that "(Your brother) says I have to suck your dick tonight."). Anyway, by 1 o'clock or so I was pretty drunk, and can't remember exactly the events leading up to Posh getting in my face once again. Granted, being drunk on the job for the first time probably didn't lead allow me to be in tip-top form whilst doing my job that night, but everyone seemed t be having a good time prior to the altercation. Once again Posh got in my face, saying shit for reasons I can't really remember at all. What I do remember, however, was that my brother came out of the bathroom at that moment, drunk as hell and having just overheard Posh threatening me. As he walked out, Posh's eyes immediately showed how scared he was, as my brother got into his face:

"You know, I already fucking warned you... and you know what? I'm tired of fucking playing with you."

At this point, my brother pulled out his Cold Steel Vaquero Grande...

... and placed the blade underneath Posh's chin. One of the DJ's nearby cried out, in the faggiest voice possible, "____, NO!" Upon hearing that, I immediately freaked, and reached out to pull the knife down. Between mine and my brother's drunkenness, I'm not sure who was to blame for the giant fucking gash I received on my thumb, though I started bleeding pretty good as a result. Posh immediately freaked the fuck out and left, while I cleaned myself up as the party winded down. The night ended with the owner unable to even stand, my brother drunkenly falling whilst trying to lift him up, and me falling trying to drunkenly lift my brother up.

My brother would later claim that he was simply going to slice Posh's chin/jaw open and freak him out, but I think Posh was plenty scared anyway. After that, Posh still acted somewhat entitled, though he always kissed my ass in the process, and acted as though I was his best homie or something. For my part, I just let him slide, as I REALLY didn't want to give my brother than excuse to commit murder.

ON TOPIC-NESS: Serbia's best fighter is that dude who Cain raped.

Nah. I was in a long term relationship at the time (pretty much the whole time I worked security), so I never really took advantage of the chances I had to get laid from the job.

My brother used to own a shitload of knives when he first got out of the Marines. Dude was pretty much a walking Cold Steel catalog.

Most of the bouncers usually carried one or two weapons on the job, with the main exceptions being our manager and our other black security guard, who both happened to be the biggest guys there.

Your bro got the Urban Pal?

I used to get the Cold Steel DVDs and those were fantastic. Some short middle aged fat white guys chopping ribs and watermelons with knifes and swords that had ethnic names. Good shit.

The 97 pre-sale is already looking like a shit show. They changed it to a new site which apparently has a virtual waiting room and the horror stories I'm reading about said rooms is worrying me a bit for Wednesday. Also, for those who went to 83, what seats should I shoot for?

I guess Tank and Ken Shamrock's next fight after this friday is against each other. Sorry if posted elsewhere already, the fight would have been interesting about ten-fifteen years ago.

We dropped $450 on our tickets and were tenth row up from the floor in the lower bowl, pretty much at eye level with the octagon. Really good seats but pricey.

Lower bowl, 5-15 rows up. Pref. on the sides rather than corners.

Cool, thanks again for the info. I was shooting for a $225 ticket but for the lower bowl it looks like those are only in the corners.
