PROMO: Back To The Landon

Recommended Posts

(hurriedly posted now because I wrote this for the show and didn't know Landon would be pulling a 'drunky' all evening')

Halfway through Sunday, shortly before Spain wins the European Championships

"Look, I'm sorry Leo," Landon Maddix says shaking his head, "but we just can't allow it."

"So I'm not allowed to support my brother by being at ringside?" Leo Breslin asks incredulously.

"It's not the supporting that's the problem," Toxxic tells him lazily, "it's more the 'running in with a steel chair and attacking paid-up members of the roster' that's the issue here."

"Oh come on!" Leo snaps, "you expect me to sit back and do nothing when my brother's getting beaten up?"

"As much as I expect every single bloody fan in that building to sit in their seats and not rush the ring with improvised weapons the moment they don't like what's going on!" Toxxic bites out. "You're a former employee, we respect that, that's why you're allowed backstage, thats why we're taking the time to talk to you now instead of having you prosecuted for assault and battery. Try and get all morally indignant with me sunshine, and that'll change."

"I think I might have a solution?" Landon offers. The other two turn to look at him.

"This'll be a first," Toxxic grumps.

"Well, we all know that what goes on between employees of a wrestling company stays behind closed doors and away from criminal proceedings," Landon begins in a reasonable tone of voice. "I mean, we couldn't operate in any other way."

"Yeah, cos legal liability is such a bind..." Toxxic mutters.

"So why don't we change how this is set up?" Maddix continues reasonably. "If Leo signs an SWF contract and rejoins the roster he can accompany his brother to the ring unless otherwise instructed by an authority such as ourselves, or the officiating referee of any match. That way, the playing field has been levelled."

"You'll sign me? Just like that?" Leo asks suspiciously, "it's been a while since I've been in the ring you know."

"That any of our concern?" Toxxic ask, nodding as Landon's idea sinks in. "We won't be building the company around you, not unless you show you deserve it. If you can't keep up it'll be you that gets hurt, not us. In the meantime you get to watch your little brother's back and get a regular cheque." He grimaces. "I hate to say it Landon, but you might have something there. We can always use another body."

"Then that's settled!" Landon beams. "I'll have the paperwork faxed over from our head office! Just make sure you're at 'Our Super Sweet Sixteen' Leo, and we'll have you back on board!"

"...OK," the older Breslin nods, "I mean, give me a day or so to think about it, it'll mean changing a few things, I don't want to say yes right now, but I'm definitely interested. I'll be at the next show."

"Excellent!" Landon says as Breslin gets up to leave, "mind how you go!"

Once Leo has gone, Toxxic turns to look at Landon. "Why didn't you tell me we were doing a good cop / bad cop routine?" the Englishman demands.

"Huh?"

"You know," Toxxic says patiently (for him), "I mouth off at him, then you provide the solution of him joining the roster. I mean, it's a good way to get someone else on board, but you might have told me that was the plan instead of just assuming I'd get cranky with him."

"Oh, that wasn't a plan," Landon says, surprised, "it just occurred to me."

"What, so you're improvising now?"

"Uh-huh."

"We're doomed," Toxxic declares, putting his head in his hands.
