Guest gangsteruwa Report post Posted June 23, 2002 Remeber "back in the day" when wrestlers would almost get killed by obsessed fans at events. Near riots would break out because the marks thought the wrestlers were really being hurt. The wrestlers stayed in kayfabe almost all the time. Well that leads to me thinking of this. What if all these "news reports" were just creative angles setup by the WWE writers? What if there is actually no turmoil in the "back"? What if the Kliq has no pull. What if HHH and Stephanie aren't holding people down? What if there was no "glass ceiling"? What if Austin didn't actually beat his wife (its a good way to get heel heat with everyone)? What I'm trying to say is there is a new Kayfabe and we the internet fans are the marks. In most cases internet fans will not give up on the WWE. Vince realizes this and starts to play towards us. Isn't it convenient how the WWE recently stated they will no longer comment on rumors? We are all being worked.
Guest The Vanilla Midget Report post Posted June 23, 2002 that would be great, except the austin situation is no work. the mainstream media and law enforcement were involved in that, and vince would be fucking stupid to work them. also, the wwe doesnt care about net fans enough to work us, we make up far too small a proportion of their fanbase. also, they never really commented on rumours, they just gave kayfabed responses which generally only muddled the picture further. Guest Prince Paul Report post Posted June 23, 2002 That's too much for for the WWE since we are the minority of the WWE's fanbase. It wouldn't totally surprise me if Vince tried to work the media and law enforcement, but you are right Vanilla Midget, the Austin situation is very real. Guest joshicho Report post Posted June 23, 2002 I don't know about that to be honest. I mean some things may be worked but, I cant imagine them working things as bad as this.
Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted June 23, 2002 I don't necesarily think there's a new kind of kayfabe, however I feel that Vince (with the arrival of the "Confidential" show) is just trying to play to the smarks a little more. Not necesarily making the show for the smarks, just when things like the Austin departure happens, I think Vince is trying to make it seem controversial to yank the smarks' proverbial chain...... Guest joshicho Report post Posted June 23, 2002 Yeah I get what your saying, and i think that could very well be true. But if he wanted to play to the smarks more, alls he has to do is bring Guerrero up to World title level!
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted June 23, 2002 I think the Russo thing might be a work (i.e. he's still on the writing team but someone, probably Russo himself, leaked out the rumour of him being kicked off). I bet Russo will wait and see if people like his booking, and then if they do he will come out and say that it was him all along and that he fooled everyone. Would be pretty funny.
