Muse - Assassin (Grand Omega Boss Remix)

Black Holes & Revelations - Knights of Cydonia (Single)

http://musewiki.org/Assassin_(song)

200px-MuseKnightsofcydonia.png

My all time favorite band... ever! The reason I learned to play guitar and screeching like a girl when I tried to sing. This song is an alternative version to the album version on Black Holes & Revelations (2006). Truely awesome.

It starts off with a simple lonely riff so electronic and basic it could be mistaken for a line out of Road Rash - hell the whole fucking song sounds like something from Road Rash, its what I like about Muse, sometimes I'll listen to a song and go, hey that sounds like a computer game I played as a kid.

So why do I like this version more then the album version? Well, for pure out there pace and blistering fuckage to the face, the album version rules, but this version is the LIVE version and brings back memories of seeing them countless times, plus it has the funky middle 8. Besides Dom, (the Drummer) looks like he has so much fucking fun playing this song.

War is overdue

The time has come for you

To shoot your leaders down

Join forces underground

Lose control

And increasing pace

Warped and bewitched

Time to erase

Whatever they say

These people are torn

Wild and bereft

Assassin is born, yeah

Aim, shoot, kill your leaders

They'll try to steal your life

So watch your back

You're not alone

But you must actualise

The first attack

Oppose and disagree

Destroy demonocracy

Lose control

And increasing pace

Warped and bewitched

Time to erase

Whatever they say

These people are torn

Wild and bereft

Assassin is born, yeah

EXTRA!:

Here's a little crazy video of all the crazy riffs Muse pull out during gigs - ok so its like them jamming, but there fun to go apeshit to.

I swear to god I listen to more then just Muse... honest.

Muse - Stockholm Syndrome

Absolution (2003)

http://musewiki.org/Stockholm_Syndrome_(song)

Muse_stockholm.jpg

If this song had been released a few months later, when downloaded songs were counted as Chart entries, this would have been the groups highest entry into the UK Top 40 at #3. The song itself is pretty 'fast' and furious, taking some influences from System of a Down's fast riffary.

I won't stand in your way

Let your hatred grow

And she'll scream and she'll shout and she'll pray

And she had a name, yeah she had a name

I won't hold you back

Let your anger rise

And we'll fly and we'll fall and we'll burn

No one will recall, no one will recall

This is the last time I'll abandon you

And this is

The last time I'll forget you

I wish I could

Look to the stars

Let hope burn in your eyes

And we'll love and we'll hate and we'll die

All to no avail, all to no avail

This is the last time I'll abandon you

And this is

The last time I'll forget you

I wish I could

This is the last time I'll abandon you

And this is

The last time I'll forget you

I wish I could

I wish I could

UK Video

I'll be the first to admit that Matt Bellamy's lyrics aren't the most ground breaking, but his guitar work, style and the overall sound of Muse just work for me, probably the first band I could claim as my own, seeing them on their pretty low key Showbiz tour here almost 10 years ago.

When the band started to break out in America around 2004/2005, the same time they left Mushroom and signed with Warner, they had to change the Stockholm Syndrome video to show their faces a bit more. They also cut the song down from 5 minutes to around about 3 mins, claiming that US folk just weren't into all that 'bridge' stuff - wankers.

US Video

The song live was the epic closing song for their Absolution tour, which usually resolved with the end riff melting down into a riff of doom as Bellamy starts to trash or rape his Orange Amp.

I swear my next entry won't be from Muse, honest to Jebus...

Muse - Knights of Cydonia

Black Holes & Revelations (2006)

00014030_knightsOfCydonia.jpg

It sounds like Doctor Who was in Texas and the Soundtrack was done by Dick Dale on crack stuck in the future. Really funk ass song, lots of moments where you can just spazz out if you ever here live. The official video is fun to watch too for any Sci-Fi nerds out there, can you spot all 15 Sci-Fi film references? It was a competition back on the Muse board when it came out to win a poster of all the scenes... ok that's lame, but still... cool?

Come ride with me

Through the veins of history

I'll show you a god, who falls asleep on the job

How can we win, when fools can be kings?

Don't waste your time or time will waste you

No one's gonna take me alive

The time has come to make things right

You and I must fight for our rights

You and I must fight to survive

No one's gonna take me alive

The time has come to make things right

You and I must fight for our rights

You and I must fight to survive

No one's gonna take me alive

The time has come to make things right

You and I must fight for our rights

You and I must fight to survive

Ok, so once again a bit lame on the lyrics front, but it works for the song.

Queen - Fightball Fight

Flash Gordon OST

I love the guitar at the end, though the sheer campness of Flash Gordon will forever go down in movie history as the most sociable acceptable camp film ever

Oh, I'm just revisiting Fear, after mentioning it in the Pitchfork discussion. I think "Bamboo Floor" is a bonus track on the reissue, but it's one of my favorite Cale songs nonetheless. I've said a bunch about this album in the past, I bet: Roxy Music minus Ferry plus Cale is the band, it delivers on the avant-garde weirdness you'd expect from a Velvet, and so on. The only misfire here is "The Man Who Was Afraid To Orgy." I can't tell you why, but it just doesn't work for me. Haha: I once made the mistake of putting my player on shuffle while jogging, and "Emily" came up and nearly turned me into a puddle of sludge. I'm pretty sure the title character is supposed to be dead.

Here's more from the late great Stylus: http://www.stylusmagazine.com/articles/on_...n-cale-fear.htm

James Brown- "The Payback"

I think we can all agree that themes to blaxploitation movies were way better than the movies themselves. And I like blaxploitation movies. The albums this was off of was supposed to be the soundtrack for the little remembered Hell Up In Harlem but was rejected by the director for "not being James Brown enough."

And the line "I don't know karate but I know ca-razy!" still kills me.

I do like me some James Brown, I used to freak out as kid to him, Little Richard and Big Band music. There's still a part of me that does that, but I can't help but feel just damn happy and relaxed to the music - then you listen to the lyrics and you're like hmm, I should probably be fighting my suppressors.

Shit, I have to share this one:

Angel Witch - Angel Witch

70s/80s Metal band from the UK - do they look like Spinal Tap.. fuck yeah!

Oh, I like that album a lot! Before you post, I was the only one to post about them.

My adoration of the Goo Goo Dolls has also been well documented on this board. Last night, I took the leap and listened to Dizzy Up the Girl in its entirety. Apparently there's another singer/songwriter in the band besides Rzeznik, and he kinda sucks! So like half the album is all that lovely middle-of-the-road adult contemporary that was so great for going to the mall on a rainy day in 8th grade, and then the other half is really bad uptempo screaming. Truly a fine example of overlong '90s CDs with one great song and a ton of filler, except that this particular album, especially if it's the reissue with "Name" tacked on, has like six or seven great songs. The filler is so worthless, though. I'm not uploading anything; I already put all the singles in a seeqpod once.

I saw the other singer in The Goo Goo Dolls walk out of a Dunkin Donuts in Downtown Portland about a year ago. The Goo Goo Dolls were playing a show in town that night. I'm a big enough of a dork about '90s rock to know that his name is Robby Takac and he was actually their full time lead singer for their first two albums and sang most of the songs on the third. He's kind of The John Oates of The Goo Goo Dolls. He sings a couple of songs on each album but they're never released as singles. Early on, apparently The Goo Goo Dolls were a blatent Replacements ripoff.

The Beach Boys- "Cuddle Up"

I've been listening to Carl and The Passions- So Tough a bit late and what an eclectic album. The first side is filled with competent The Band knockoffs and the second is mostly comprised of classically inspired ballads. On the first listen- I think I like the latter a lot better. Dennis Wilson often stole these early '70s Beach Boys albums and I'm looking forward to checking out his recently reissued solo album.

The Bottecellis - Stay With My Brother

I saw these guys open up for Panther a while back, and they're a great surf/nostalgia band out of SF. They've got a great sound going for them.

Joe Buddens-3 sides to a story.

I suggest reading the lyrics with the song, shit is crazy.

[Joey as Derrick]

My names Derrick, I'm from Queens right there on Merrick

Raised of honesty, loyalty, good merits

Gotta lil sister and my pops just perished

And I just came home so my freedom I really cherish

Young when they bagged me, seven in the can is torcher

And I just did that for manslaughter

Odds was against me, murder in the second degree

Made it less cuz I gave 'em a plea

That's the past, now a dude home tryna clean up his past

When all niggaz kno me for is the past

And my minds always thinking how to pocket some cash

They know if something ever sparked it'll cock it and blast

Now I'm tryna live straight and get my act together

But my moms struggling, she putting scraps together

Long time ago, when I wasn't home she was cleaning my room

Cried when she found a gat in the dresser

Said no child of hers woulda had dat, never!!!

But with all the dirt I was doing

I felt like I hadda protect her, I hadda protect us

Stead of me sellin crack forever

She rather be ina shop right, getting bags together

Passing endeavors, wont allow me to get work

Forced me to get work

On apps they ask if you ever been to jail, like if I say yes you'll hire me

NIGGA DON'T LIE TO ME!!!

I gotta lil sister that's nine

Plus moms is chillin, wit some new dude I think she feeling

But he don't help with the bills and I'm back on the script

So we don't go broke, I'm back to this hammer that I hafta tote

Stash ya kno, I'm killin em, only nigga on the Ave. with coke

Only man in the house, I gotta bring in cash

And those two chicks a month that mom get don't last

Lil Sally still young she developing fast

Oh, you thinking the same thing, it's a hell of a task

Then it clicked me, plain close, cops came to get me

But knew that I had mine on threaten to hit me

And I moved swiftly, said they had a warrant

They knew about it all they said they had an informant

I'm back in this caged up cell

With the apes in jail, now I'm back in this eight by twelve

See I tried to live right

But society ain't made for niggaz to live right

Mommy just write

Mommy make sure Sally keep her shit tight

And I'll be home real soon, don't cry, it's iight

[Chorus]

I know it might seem like it's all good

But this is what it's like in the hood

I rep my set like you should

But this is what it's like in the hood

[repeat]

[Joey as Sally]

My names Sally, and I'm from Queens I'm not happy

Dad pasted away, moms remarried

I gotta big bro, but he's in jail

Moms said for some things that he used to sell

And I'm always with step-dad, his names Beau

And theres some things about him that my mom don't kno

And he says if I tell that it won't be pretty

And I'm really scared of em, he's already hit me

He touches me places I don't like it

And I ain't talking bout a hug or goodbye kiss

I mean touch me places that's private

And he don't just touch he put summin inside it

He says the more he does that, I'll start to like it

Hand over my mouth so I'm quiet

Moms only wit 'em cuz our money is low

I'm sixteen but I'm shaped like a twenty year old

And my moms in love so she makes excuses

But she looks at me and sees scrapes and bruises

Why step daddy gotta take me thru this

Help, somebody, I'm getting raped I cant do this

Nobody understands I'm weary

Get goosebumps anytime a man come near me

Know how it feel to have a man use you for a cushion

All the while moaning and pushin

You try to push him, he's getting bothered

You yell and you scream but he starts going harder

Trust me, it's summin you don't wanna be apart of

Cuz even when it's over, your life, it'll scare ya

Visit my bro, he can tell I'm sad

Staring hard at my stomach he can tell I'm fat

He can tell I'm mad

But step daddy touched me, fucked me, you think that I can tell him that?

Beau called the cops on him, could I tell him that?

Yep, thought you'd agree so I keep it all to me

Baby on the way, and I'm not working

And I kno it's his cause I used to be a virgin

Derrick says he'll handle it, wipe my tears

He don't know, this is what it's like for years

And it falls on def ears

Damn mommy please come home, please mommy don't leave us alone

Some secrets are hard to keep

Some secrets make it hard to sleep

And sleep is the only time I feel safe

Still the act haunts me, and I kno I'ma wake up with step daddy on me…

[Chorus]

[Joey as Beau]

My names Beau, gotta chick named Pam that I live with

But she's always in church, real religious

I hadda son he was young he was gifted

Til a nigga killed him a week before Christmas

Three shots close range with a handgun

I knew before I met Pam that it was Pam's son

I knew when I pulled the Mill out harder

And went on a manhunt just to kill they father

Derrick and my boy hadda mutual friend

That put me on doing what I gotta do for revenge

Derricks coming home now, and he's gonna get it

And I kno he'll be lookin for me with a biscuit

Not hard to find, got them teks in handy, and

I'm in his house having sex with him family

I got his mom on the bed and the canopy

And I'm with his sister molesting her candy

Now he kno it all

His friend prolly told em, and you can't hide nothing ina hood so small

But then it came Sunday, Beau ain't hafta work

Just humped on Sally, Pam's in church

Derrick bust in, Beau just froze

White shit on his nose, Sally getting her clothes

Screams, "Get ready for your funeral Beau"

And then he reach to his hip and let a few of 'em go

Cause he's packin but Sally starts gaspin

Holdin her stomach, I guess she started having contractions

Beau grabbed his, now they both got heat

Just gunnin, both ignoring the seed that's coming

Now Sally's in the crossfire, screams out stop

Holes in the wall, now the scenes getting hott

Next 30 seconds on the scene is the cops

Yellow tape up, now the scenes getting blocked

Barricades up, yep, you already kno y'all

Ambulance there, streets full of patrol cars

Cops on the mega phone, "come down now"

But it all calmed down somehow

Beau comes out, hands showing, carrying his arms

Derrick comes down, little Sally in his arms

Yep, nuttin to say, she was hit by a stray

Nope! Shots done ric-o-shade, cops take him away

And now some niggaz miss em

But it wasn't the guns that killed Sally, nah it was the dumb niggaz wit em

When we gonna learn to treat our people sacred

Theres some type of way kid, we're all related

When we gonna grow and get rid of the hatred

Cuz this shit happens on a regular basis, this shit happens on a regular basis

This type of shit happens everyday kidd

[Chorus]

Terumasa Hino - Hip Seagull

Found it on a blog, now you can find it here. Ever been like "I like In a Silent Way and Filles de Kilimanjaro, but want to hear someone else's spin on it?" That's basically where we're at with Side 1 of this. Nice groovy little jam with lots of trumpet, Rhodes piano, and guitar. Side 2 isn't as easy to pin down. Three songs here that are all pretty interesting, but the first is marred by too much female choir. The second, "Fall," is a nice little John Scofield guitar feature. "Life Trip" busts out Latin percussion and is easily the most frenetic part of the album. hxxp://rapidshare.de/files/40160046/PD_V_TH-HIPSEA.ZIP.html

I don't like this dude Game, but I admit LAX is a hot album. The kid is emo as fuck, but he has a good ear for beats. He always seems finds some dope ass beats, I guess that comes from working with Fif and Dre, too bad Fif lost his sense of picking up good beats.

There aren't many more charmingly schizophrenic artists in pop music history than Harry Nilsson. Dude could go from a hard rocker to a well orchestrated schmaltzy ballad to Beatlesesque baroque pop to country rock to a whimsical Carribean infused track on one album side. Unfortuantely, that also probably led to the downfall of his popularity. He's one of those artists that could have only been a chart topper in the early '70s.

Here he is doing a medley and talking about the art of songwriting on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.

I believe the best way to describe Against Me! is "efficient". Their CDs rarely stretch more than an hour in length, most clocking in under 50 minutes, but they pack a lot of shit into their songs. Take this one, for example: "Turn Those Clapping Hands into Angry Balled Fists".

Holy shit. I was obviously familiar with this song before today, but I'd never really appreciated its greatness. It has everything I enjoy about music: wee little backing vocals, handclaps, awesome high-pitched 70s guitar solos, lyrics about staying in bed all day, etc. It's magic.
