I have some software that plays dvds that apparently has a crack/hack available on the net somewhere, but Im kinda chicken to go messing with it. Look up the software you are using, and chances are you'll find it. Region free hacks seem to be the most popular hacks for most dvd playing software and if you have even remotely popular software, you'll find it.

Another option would be to search for shareware/freeware that plays DVDs but also allows you to change the region. These are few and far between. From what I've seen in the 2 or 3 that I've tried, they tend to lack a lot of good features and also have some major bugs/performance issues and they are somewhat harder to use as well to top it off.

Then of course all you would need is a vid card with a video out and you'd be set.

There's a plug-in for PowerDVD, WinDVD and other programs called DVD Genie. Supposedly, it'll let you play other Region DVDs on your DVD-ROM, but someone told me that your hardware may need to be modified for it to really work.

I think there's a software player for Linux that will play a DVD from any region without a problem. If I'm not mistaken, it's what the kid who developed it got into a lot of trouble for less than a year ago. Only works on Linux so far, but there are a few Windows-based programs that should do the same thing.
