fazzle 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 Tonight was Part 1 of my wrestling geek weekend, as tomorrow night I'll be going to a TNA house show in Kenansville NC. Expect results of that tomorrow night. I know you can't wait. Match 1 was "The Alabama Ambassador" Jacoby Boykins(w/Joey Nuggs) over Matt Graves. No idea who Graves is. He almost looks like a brown haired Brian Kendrick. Pretty boring match truthfully, Boykins wins with what I think was supposed to be a top-rope Uranage. Match 2 was supposed to be Team Ego vs. Josh Magnum/Zack Salvation, but Magnum announced that Salvation didn't show up, so he'd gladly take the two of them on himself in a handicap match. Roger Gleaton, the CWA owner came out and said that Magnum had to find a partner, since he signed on for a tag match. Magnum said he could beat them with anyone as a partner, and chose Boy-Boy John, a member of the audience, to be his partner. Side Note: Box-Boy John actually IS a real audience member, and not just a plant by CWA. He's one of the biggest CWA fans and has a bigger following than a lot of the wrestlers in the promotion. So that just got the crowd that much more into it, that they were using an actual fan as a plant as opposed to just using a regular wrestler and pretending he was a plant. Magnum was given some time to "show John a few moves" and the match was rescheduled for later on. So instead in match 2, "The Urban Legend" Xavier Night pinned Chris Hamrick with a handful of tights to win the CWA Cruiserweight title. Match 3: "The Hawaiian Assassin" Kimo and "The Universal" Phil Shatter(w/Joey Nuggs) jobbed to the New Wave. Based on the mic work pre-match, New Wave appeared to be making their CWA debut. At the last show I went to in May, both Kimo and Shatter were fighting Raven for the CWA World Title. From world title contenders to jobbing to the new guys in just over 2 months. Sad. Kimo and Shatter are hoss-a-riffic, but the New Wave were pretty decent. Kimo's actually been on Heat a couple of times, but I really have no idea why. Intermission, where something awesome happened. You'll see it when you scroll down to the bottom of this post. Match 4: Lodi defeats Hexxon to successfully defend his TV title. Lodi walks all through the crowd before the match....but that kinda loses it's effect when the crowd is only 3 rows deep. I really don't remember much at all about this match. Match 5: Team Ego(Will Snapp/Abel Adams) beats Josh Magnum/Box-Boy John(w/Box) No, seriously. They announced John as "being accompanied to the ring by the box." I'm glad a cardboard box can get an official managerial license. 80% of this match consisted of John just getting the shit beat out of him by both men, before he finally hot-tagged Magnum. ....John then blind-tagged himself back in less than a minute after the hot tag, and got pinned by Snapp, I think. Maybe. Idiot. Like I said, the heat was fucking CRAZY for this match(well, as crazy as it can get with that small of a crowd) because the fans saw it more like one of their own getting beaten up, even if it has been made well-known(on their message boards, at least) that John is training to be a pro-wrestler. Main event: Sixx(no, not Sean Waltman)/Jean Pierre Flex beat "The Insane Lumberjack" Timber/Rusty Young. The main event featured a referee(Rusty) and a former commissioner-turned janitor(Flex) facing each other. No, seriously. This coming from a feud the two created on their message boards. No, seriously. Ah the wonders of indy wrestling. And then just to make it even stupider, the special guest ref, CWA's "director of authority"(we're just making up dumb titles now, right?) turns on Rusty and low blows him, allowing Flex to get the pin. The Sixx vs. Timber portions of the match were pretty good, but Flex vs. Rusty was just painful. Oh, and I managed to get hit directly in the face with THE BOX during this match, and I lived to tell the tale. That's right: I'm hardcore. Overall: Not as good as the last show I went to, but still pretty entertaining. Entertaining enough that I'm going to go to their next show in Columbia on 8/8, Skirts vs. Fins. Gluteus Maximus/Awesome Kong teaming up to take on Shark Boy/Shark Girl. Of course, this show could have been complete shit, and I STILL would have gone to that show anyways. Daffney. fazzle 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 Based on the 0 replies to this thread, probably nobody cares, but I'm gonna update the thread with some CWA news anyways. From what I'm reading online, it appears as if it was announced at the show on 8/9 that CWA at some point in the future is being split into two brands, with one of them running shows in Orangeburg SC and the other running shows in Columbia SC. What the fuck? I'm sure it's happened at SOME point before that an indy fed has had multiple brands, right? Has it ever had any kind of success? Also, Phill Shatter has signed a developmental deal with the WWE. From what I've seen he's nothing special, but he has the look, which I guess is enough.
