About The Tiger Masks

1.I know there have been about four wrestlers who have used this moniker. Who played the third one and who is the current one?

2.Is the gimmick copyrighted and thus require special permission to use it, or can anyone put on the mask and call himself the Tiger Mask?

3.Would the gimmick work in the WWE these days?

Sorry if these seem like dumb questions, but I have only recently developed an interest in Japanese wrestling and my knowledge is very limited.

1.I am pretty sure that the 3rd one was Koji Kanemoto...

3.No, because they would have to put the mask on a WRESTLER...

Kanemoto was Tiger Mask 3, he only used the gimmick for about a year, so he didn't have a lot of memorable matches.

We won't know who Tiger Mask 4 is until he unmasks. Of all four of them, he's had the gimmick the longest (since 1995)

The gimmick is owned by M Pro at the moment, so unless they get so broke that they sell it, nobody else can use it. This is interesting because M Pro is barely holding on and Lyger wants Tiger Mask 4 in NJ, he's already working NJ tours.

Oh it would work...but just imagine Tiger Mask V as...

KANE!

I shit you not...he needs a mask, and becoming Tiger Mask V...well, that would probably be what Vince would do...

... And with that, the legacy of Tiger Mask was ruined forever. :D

I read a pretty funny commentary on Christopher Daniels' website. He was talking about his New Japan Super Juniors tour recently, and how he got all of the wrestlers in that company to start doing the Curry Man dance, with one exception:

"Now, of all the people bitten by the Curry Man Dance bug, Tiger Mask seems to be the least susceptible by it. Man, he’s a great worker, but his dancing leaves a lot to be desired. For some reason, he couldn’t get his hips and his arms to work together. Thank God he never got Magnum Tokyo’s gimmick. He’d have been done for."

Has anyone else heard the rumour that TM-4 is related to TM-1, think there is any truth to it?

Keeping in mind that I don't know what I'm talking about...

I would say probably not, since iirc Sayama (Tiger Mask I) was blackballed from the sport after he wrote a tell-all type of book called "Kayfabe." I may have some of the details wrong here, though.

When did this happen? He's featured on several NJ Dome cards in '97.

Hey RickyChosyu, are you being facetious with that Patterson quote?

When I heard him say that, I thought it was one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Definately. I found it so stupid/insulting that I could hardly believe he said it. Me and a friend of mine were watching it at his house and even he, a guy who blindly takes Vince's side with anything, including Montreal, said it was a really stupid thing to say. I don't know how much he gets payed, but I don't think any amount of money or loyalty could bring me to say something so ridiculous.

Of course, now I feel like a total idiot, because I'm just now remembering that it was Brisco who said that. Paterson was the guy who supposedly "had no idea it was going to happen" according to our scrupulous Gerry Brisco.
