The Shield

Recommended Posts

So the final season starts on Tuesday. We've had separate threads for the other seasons, so figured I'd start this. One of the best things about this season is that I really have no clue how it'll end. A lot of people are always saying that Vic will either be dead or locked up by the end, but I just can't see it. Now Shane going down does seem like a safe bet.

Ronnie actually got some depth last season, so hopefully he gets more stuff to do this season. He's clearly the best person on the show...

I think FX had something on their site about a returning character. There are no details in the spoiler below, just the name of the character.

Tavon is supposed to be back at some point.

So hooray!

Ohhh man, I'm pumped right now. Season 6 was the best season that I've ever seen. Not just the Shield seasons, of any TV show ever.

I am beyond pumped. I'm excited at the prospect that ANYONE who isn't dead could return (Tayvon, Rawling, Kavanaugh; it's a safe bet Antwon Mitchell will continue his recurring role). And what happens to the 3 leads (Vic, Shane, Aceveda) is anyone's bet. Shane seems like a near-lock to get killed (if he does, I'd bet on it being Ronnie who does it) but I'm not so sure. I see Aceveda either using the Cruz angle to get himself positioned as the next mayor or going down in flames with the Juan Lazano stuff bringing him down. Vic is equally likely to die, go to jail, just lose his badge or get away and continue being a cop. All the possibilities are amazing.

I'll say this though, if Vic is brought down and goes to jail, it'll be Wagenbach who gets him. If he dies, it'll be Terry's brother.

Hopefully Billings still makes some appearances despite his leaving the department last season. He was pretty awesome last season.

For whichever Strike Team member(s) is going down, I agree that Dutch should definitely have a major role in it. Maybe he'll finally figure out that Shane was behind Lem's death.

Clips from this season.

Oh, here's titles (and premises) for the first 3 episodes of the season.

Episode 7.01 - Coefficient of Drag

Vic challenges Shane and deals with threats to his family, while a federal agent comes to Farmington to Investigate a recent wave of violence

Episode 7.02 - Snitch

As the local gang war heats up, Vic positions himself as a valuable commodity to the warring parties; Corrine and Cassidy confront Vic.

Episode 7.03 - Money Shot

Vice works an angle to make himself valuable to the Armenian mob; Corrine finds herself in a suprising legal jam; Tina targets a porn producer.

I just don't see how Vic gets away. I just don't. They are setting him up for such a huge ending though that I could almost see him getting gunned down by someone not even major, just some random thug pops him.

I'm looking forward to this and tomorrow night's Sons of Anarchy premiere. Hellboy in a series as a biker? I'm there.

Sucks that this is the final season. This show has been criminally overlooked for five years now but it's as good as it's ever been. Hopefully we get a satisfying and logical ending, and considering the talent involved with this show I expect nothing less.

I'm thinking about watching this season but I haven't watched since I think Season 3 or 4 so I'm not to sure if i want to try and watch this season due to getting really lost on what is going on.

I'm torn on the ending, as I feel like Vic getting popped by a random thug would remind me too much of another show that ended recently. All the same, it's a hard prediction to make. The season should be fucking phenomenal though.

If the Departed hadn't done it the Shield would have been perfect using that, Shane kills Vic, goes back home to his apartment where he finds Ronnie who's been MIA lately, POP!

No, you're not alone. I think Shane will be redeemed. In fact, he's already somewhat started by his (stupid) attempt to protect Vic's family from the Armenians. Which by the way, since Vic still hasn't seen Shane since that incident, Shane's likely catching an ass-kicking tonight.

But yeah, I like Shane a lot... Ronnie's just better.

"Go Ahead! Kill Mackey!"

"I'm not going down for Shane or you."

I love this show. Great season premire.

Ronnie actually gets to lead the Strike Team. That's great. Him asking the Armenian if his boss was calling, only to shoot him immediately after shocked the hell out of me.

And both Billings and Tina make the opening credits! (Not as much excitement for Tina).

I liked how they more or less tricked Billings into blowing his "injury" story. The side of him they showed in the interrogation room is the side of him I wish they would always show. I like what they're doing with Ronnie now, and I look forward to him being the long-term strike team leader, even if it is for just this final season. Vick is great as always. I'm going to be sad as fuck when this show ends.

I guess I'm alone in this but I still have hope of redemption for Shane.

I still hold the whole Tavon thing against Shane, forever...

Vic's hands aren't exactly clean their either (convincing Lem to lie to one of his best friends is about as low as Shane covering up his wife nearly killing Tavon).

I blame Shane's stupid cunt wife the most.

Been gone for ages but I'm back.....

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The season premire for the finale season of "The Shield" does a nice job setting up the sort of apocalyptic tone for the series as it reaches the finish line.

Ronnie finally gets the spotlight at long last as we see him kill in cold blood (granted, an evil hitman and not say, one of his fellow officers) and we see Vic once again repeating the same mistakes he made with Shane by cutting off Ronnie when Ronnie wanted to talk about what he had done and the feelings he was feeling over having taken a human life in cold blood. Granted, at least Vic was gentle with the way he shut Ronnie off, telling him that he doesn't want him becoming like Shane, but it was Vic's very much "We are not having this discussion EVER" response to Shane, when Shane wanted to talk about his inner angst over killing Terry, that contributed to Shane becoming the monster that he currently is.

The use of the Social Distortion song "Reach for the Sky" at the beginning of the episode worked well to set the tone for the season thematically, especially as far as both Shane and Vic are concerned. They are literally trapped in an endless loop of lies, violence, murder, and corruption that has stripped them of any real sort of future and a past that will consume them and bring them down if they ever stop running for a second. Especially now, as they have basically reunited and put aside their MAD stalemate to engineer a gang war that will require a hell of a lot of lying and manipulating to keep for collapsing and destroying everything and everyone they loved. And of course, Vic is telling Ronnie that once the duel threat of the Armeniens and the Mexican Mafia are taken cared of, that they'll deal with Shane, is the sort of thing that looms ominously for all parties considered as far the fact that it's only a matter of time before Shane and Vic's reconcilliation ends in death and/or Ronnie turning against them in order to save his own hide...

The Billings lawsuit plotline also gets resolved and in satisfactory fashion, as far as Billings not only getting smacked down and but also smacked down hard not once but twice! And nice to see Dutch finally use the vending machine scam of Billings' to twist the knife after the end of last season.

Meanwhile we have Corrine and Mara, both in their own little worlds of denial: Corrine, having to deal with her denial over the type of person her ex-husband really is and Mara's denial over Shane's ability to quit Vic Mackey. Of course, of the two Mara's the one who has access to the MAD document while Corrine probably has Dutch on her speed dialer, willing to give Dutch whatever he needs to bring down Vic.

And I'll toss in this prediction: Acaveda is dead man walking. The Mexican Mafia will have him killed for playing him like he did with Vic's help, especially since Vic still has unfinished business with him over setting Lem's death in motion.

It makes sense that they would at least try to point everyone down the same path...essentially its setting up for crashing trainwreck esque halt for all of their lives, and we get to be along for the ride and/or watch from the sidelines...

i almost think shane may see whats coming early and make his move before vic gets a change...what do i know...its gonna be crazy no matter how it goes..
