Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted June 24, 2002 GIR Radio brought back their two favorite guests this week as the WWE's Jerry "The King" Lawler and 3PW's Tod Gordon entered the confines of Get in the Ring. Lawler was in rare form as he was open, honest, and extremely funny. Listen to the show right now at www.getinthering.tv as well as other, past shows with guests such as Spiderman's Randy Savage, XWF's Roddy Piper, Scorpion King & WWE star The Rock, Tough Enough's Chavo Guerrero Jr., & WWE's Dean Malenko Get in the Ring radio airs every Sunday @ Noon ET 1240 AM WGBB or live on the web at www.getinthering.tv. -Jerry Lawler was working on his autobiography as the GIR Radio boys contacted him. He needs to be finished with the book by the end of the month so the book can go to print in December. He claimed to be working on a "word processor", the Phantom couldn't believe that Lawler was working on an old fashioned Word Processor with his co-author. Jerry corrected himself saying it was a laptop. He then made a comment that he wanted Terri Runnels to be his laptop. -Phantom then asks Lawler if he still digs Stacy Keibler, who he seemed to have a crush on last time he was on GIR Radio. Lawler says that variety is the spice of life and he hasn't seen Stacy as much as Terri in the last few months because she is on the Smackdown crew. He says "out of sight out of mind", but he loves all the divas of WWE. Talk turns to Molly Holly's "big ass" gimmick, Lawler has gotten a lot of grief from Molly's fans for him making fun of her ass. Lawler says it's just part of the storyline and in reality he thinks that Molly is very attractive. He thinks it's good that it gives her a little heat, and continues her feud with Trish Stratus. Phantom makes note that there is a big part of the population that loves women with "back", to which Lawler agrees. Phantom then calls himself an "ass man" to which Lawler says he's heard a lot of people calling the Phantom, an "Ass, man". -Jerry Lawler was just as shocked as the fans watching RAW that Steve Austin never showed up for 2 weeks of RAW. He claims that Jim Ross never talked to him about the situation before they went on the air. Lawler usually gets to RAW at 5pm, and never wants to know what will happen with the booking because he wants that genuine reaction when something big happens. He said that most people behind the scenes thought it was work when they were hyping up Austin all show long, and was shocked when the Rock came out. He knows that Austin regrets what he did, and hopes that someone starts the communication between the two parties-because he'd love to see Austin back. Lawler claims that the last few times he saw Austin he seemed fine. And really can't comment on the spousal abuse case. He did talk to Austin about his concerns with the WWE writing staff. Austin told Lawler that the writers were out of touch with the Stone Cold character, and that Austin was feeling older, and mentioned that the staff was made up of a bunch of "very young people" that don't understand a character in his late 30's. Lawler felt that was a legitimate concern, but also felt he could have handled it better -Lawler was informed by Sir Adam and the Phantom that Vince Russo was rehired by WWE (this was taped on Thursday when news just broke on wwe.com that Russo was re-hired). It sounded like he almost couldn't believe what he was hearing, and told his cowriter that Russo was hired back. Jerry claims he enjoyed working with the storylines that Vince Russo brought to the WWE in the late 90's. He is of the same mindset that "sex sells", but felt Russo might of went overboard with it when he went to WCW, figuring if a little of it worked in WWF, a lot of it can work in WCW. He feels that Russo needed someone to reign him in like he will have with Vince McMahon in WWE. -Lawler predicts that Brock Lesnar will win the King of the Ring. Thinks that Brock deserves the big push he's getting, he feels that unlike other nameless wrestlers in the past, Brock can actually take the ball and run with it. Lawler says "believe it or not, he's got a great attitude". -Jerry's new woman was involved in the first NWA TNA PPV. Lawler wanted to check it out, but couldn't receive it because of "satellite reception". When he met her she had received a tryout from WCW, and is excited to see the Lady Battle Royal. -Lawler then asks Sir Adam and The Phantom what they want to read about in his upcoming book. Phantom says he wants to read how Lawler manages to pick up all of the hot, young women he does. Lawler wants to put in the Andy Kaufman stories, because he feels his side of the story was never heard. Sir Adam wants him to write about the transition from Memphis to the WWE, Lawler agrees that it created interesting stories when he went from being the boss in Memphis to just a wrestler in the WWF. He had to face a lot of former workers that he was now equals with. Phantom adds that he's like to read more about the infamous angle where Eddie Gilbert hit the King with a car, and how Jerry never got hurt. Lawler corrects that Phantom, and says he actually dislocated his hip after being hit with the car. He still has to go to his chiropractor once a month to correct the pain that he gets in his hip. Lawler believes that Gilbert's foot "got a little heavy" when he drove the car into Jerry, and King thought he was going 20 miles an hour and actually hit the windshield. Lawler remembers Eddie asking his brother, Doug, "do you think I hurt him, and Doug responding, "I think you killed him!!". Lawler felt they broke a lot of ground in the Memphis years, because they had to come up with angles for live TV every week. Hitting a guy with a car was unheard of at the time. -Lawler was on the infamous "plane flight from hell" and people can read about it in his book. Lawler reports that Curt Hennig wasn't the one who started the fight between Brock Lesnar, and also that Ric Flair was dancing around naked. He also confirmed that Dustin Rhodes was singing on the PA system. Jerry says that people at the WWE still talks about the flight to this day. -Tod Gordon joins the show as the boys of GIR express their concern with him actually wrestling for 3PW. He's teaming with Sabu against Sandman and Bill Alfonso at the ECW arena June 29th. Gordon hopes to recreate the feeling ECW had a decade ago, when they were first starting to create a loyal fan base. You can read about 3PW at www.3pwrestling.com. -Talk turns to the failed MECW project and Gordon thinks they had a good plan, including a little something for everyone. The problem was that the financial backer's assets were frozen after being investigated by the government. The boys of GIR couldn't believe that the backer entrusted John Collins with heading the promotion, Tod Gordon agreed, but said he might have been able to con the backer over the phone. -Gordon believes that the hiring of Vince Russo should be given a chance and hopes he doesn't hotshot every angle. He thinks that McMahon made a panic move by bringing Russo back. He had spoken to Paul Heyman right after news had gotten out about Russo, and from what Heyman believes is that Russo will not have total autonomy. [Of course, by now we all know that Russo's role has been drastically scaled back by Vince McMahon]. -Tod Gordon talks about the false assumption that Steve Austin has no ego, which Gordon has always believed isn't true. He tells a story of Austin no-showing an ECW match, in the early 90's, just because he had to follow a match that had blood in it. He had told Paul Heyman he didn't want to ever wrestle on a mat that had someone else's blood on it. But instead of talking about it with Gordon and Heyman, Austin just decided to no show for his match. He feels that WWE made the right decision in cutting ties with him, and feels that Steve walking out wasn't a new behavior pattern that has just surfaced. "You can't let the inmates run the asylum". Gordon puts over GIR Radio as he leaves the show.
