Impact goes live for one night only on 10/23

Recommended Posts

The word making its way around TNA's wrestlers this afternoon at the taping was that the 10/23 Las Vegas date at The Joint in the Hard Rock Cafe & Casino will be a live broadcast of Impact on SpikeTV.

That would be the first time Impact has been held outside of the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida.

TNA held a live Impact broadcast on Thursday 3/27 earlier this year to take advantage of WWE's Wrestlemania weekend being in Orlando.

PWInsider.com has confirmed the 10/23 date is, as was rumored by TNA's wrestlers today, a live broadcast of Impact. The idea came from SpikeTV's end. I don't have any details on ticket information at this time. An official announcement is forthcoming.

Out of the several million arenas and ballrooms and theaters and such in Vegas, they choose to run at Hard Rock? Huh. How many people does this venue seat?

UFC goes there for most of their Ultimate Fight Nights... I don't see the big deal.

Not a big deal, they just seem like they're afraid of not filling up a bigger room. Which is kinda justified, seeing as how they never seem to sell out any building anywhere, and sometimes not even half of it for their house shows.

For those that read Eric Bischoff's book, is this the same venue that he talked about running Nitro from when he was going to buy the company before Vince came in?

From his book

I had some relationships at the Hard Rock Cafe in Vegas. Brian had some relationships there as well. So we started talking to them about building a small arena on op of one of their parking decks. The arena would be WCW's new home

So I don't think so. From the wiki of The Joint posted earlier in this thread it said that The Joint opened in 1995.

As an addition to this news, apparently this will be the first TNA show broadcast in HD. Figured this was going to happen soon since most of Spike TV's programming is being shifted to an HD format bigtime lately. Too bad they couldn't do Bound for Glory in HD as the first one, but it is what it is.

Smart move for them to take advantage of the fact they are going to be on the other end of the country for the first time anyway, so why not do a major TV taping since they couldn't book a ppv around that time?

This will be the first Impact ever to actually be away from Orlando, much less in Vegas of all places, it's a huge plus towards making the company more marketable/mainstream in a sense. Of course that's twofold since the PR and whatnot needs to be brought to the forefront as well for the company still. Now is a better time than ever, though (because of Foley coming in), to take advantage of these moves to try to get them more noticed around the country. Having Impact live, in HD, and from a new and exciting location for the show all sounds good to me.

Well, since they will be on the West Cost, maybe he can do a spot on Jay Leno the night before.

Leno's guests are usually higher up the celeb food chain, even WWE can't land guests there very often. Maybe TNA would have a better shot at Kimmel or Ferguson.

On the earlier note, the fact that TNA is doing its first non-Orlando based Impact should be a bigger deal in the headlines. I'm more than curious to see if the regular show can draw a paid audience so far away.

WWA drew a solid crowd back in '02 for one of their pay-per-views in Las Vegas, I would expect TNA could expect the same type of turnout. WWA did have Bret Hart to promote for that show, but outside of that it was a very similar roster to what TNA currently has.

It's pretty hilarious how this is getting no press at all locally. I was at the venue for a concert this weekend and saw "TNA LIVE" written on the upcoming events board but didn't know if it was the same TNA. I found out it was and was pretty surprised, because it's a concert venue and the idea of holding a wrestling show in a concert venue reminds me of WWA's show at the Aladdin (now the Planet Hollywood hotel.) WWA's setup had the ring on the stage and a big projection of random screensaver fractals behind the ring and it was basically terrible.

I would think if they were going to do this kind of thing they'd play it smart and use a big ballroom ala K-1's "Battle at the Bellagio" events. If they were willing to do that they could have gotten on the Strip easily at a location like the Venetian or Caesars.

The hotel's web site has no mention of it. The hotel is very much a cool hipster douchebag hangout so being associated with wrasslin' isn't their idea of good visibility. There's been no visibility in CityLife, Las Vegas Weekly, the R-J, local affiliates, and so on.

What if they held a show and nobody came?

The Joint (TNA's location) is a much smaller room than the Aladdin Performing Arts Centre (WWA's location.) The Joint can hold about 1,500 people for a concert when the chairs are removed and everyone is standing.

WWA overreached, TNA is just..... Being TNA.

Huh? Belt?

TNA had been toying around the idea of making a mid-card belt that would be their version of US or IC so guys who werent quite World Title talent yet or not X Division guys had something to do. Instead, they are going to have Booker T reveal a Legends Title, which is either going to take the older guys away from the World Title, or become one of the most meaningless, painful titles in history

That is so terrible.

Yet, in a way, fits in well with the respect angle.

I hope its

some sort of variation of the original NWA Title.

I suppose it also means we could see a

TNA Champion vs Legends Champion unification match

at the end of the angle.

hmm...there's certain things about the idea that I don't hate. I'd like to see Booker constantly cheating to keep it and then cutting promos about how no one is as worthy as he is to hold it.

Of course...it could always just be a variation of the million dollar belt that wasn't really a belt of any significance to ranking in the organization.

Yeah I would rather see a

US title or IC level belt introduced rather than a redux of the Million Dollar Belt. It almost seems like something introduced to give Booker something to do since he won't ever get the world title in TNA.

Don't forget to join us in the Live Chat here at the site when the show starts, or shortly before.

The chats for RAW and the PPVs are usually pretty entertaining, and makes the shows much more fun to watch.

Kong should be getting the title back tonight in Vegas...at least I hope so.

Either that or Lethal gets the X-title back. You gotta figure they'll want to do a title change on the big show.

I can't see any way they don't do at least the one title change. Meltzer said on one of the audios yesterday that TNA was happy with the heat that Bashir got in Chicago...so you wouldn't think they would change to Lethal who's been stuck in nowhereland for a while...but they might. I see Kong winning because I think the only reason Taylor kept it through BFG was so they had something to change here.

I could be backwards on their thinking though...since I'm using logic.

Also...AJ and Joe have to win. It sends such a terrible message if Sting and Nash win that match. I didn't have a problem with Sting winning the belt...but if Nash and Sting win here, even with cheating and ref bumps and runins and whatevers...it's just wrong.

Of course...that being said...I see Nash and Sting winning...
