-WrestleMania IX,Announcers:Randy Savage,Bobby Heenan and Jim Ross.

April 4,1993,Ceasars Palace,Las Vegas Neveda

 

 

 

-There is a bunch of use less ceremonies to begin the show.

 

 

-Opening Match:Intercontinental Title Match:Shawn Michaels w/Luna(champion)Vs. Tatanka w/Sherri:Going into this match Michaels was champion but Tatanka had beatn him in a six man tag and a non-title match.They start slow and they begin with a couple of reversals and more reversals.Michaels puts on an armbar but Tatanka comes back and Michaels with a headlock and gets Tatanka on to the mat,T-T-T-T-T-T Tatanka responsed and gets a supeplex then an arm drag and he throws Michaels out of the ring.Tatanka doesen't let him back in the ring and Michaels responds and gets a sunset flip for two.Tatanka answers with an atomic drop and Tatanka has the momentum.Don't forget this is Michael's 3rd straight opening match of WrestleMania. In a six man tag Tatanka injured Michaels shoulder and during the match Tatanka works on the shoulder and again Tatanka is back on the shoulder.Michaels is back up and is working on Tatanka,but Tatanka answers with a shoulder breaker,a chop off the top rope,he tries another one but again Somewhat Sweet Chin Music.Michaels is dominating Tatanka on the outside,we have been going for 10 minutes already and Michaels is taunting Sherri and he is also still dominating Tatanka.Michaels has the momentum and he is now looking for his third straight victory in Wrestlemania matches and remember all three coming in the opening match.Michaels is holding the whole match together and Tatanka comes back with a fallaway slam.Both men are down.Tatanka gets a 1-2- 99/100's!!!Michaels comes back but Tatanka starts dancing around and he hits with chops,he hits him,a jab,he goes up to a cross body from the top and gets a two.Both men with near falls,we have been gonig for 16 minutes.A couple of more near falls.Michaels hits his head on the stairs after he tries a cross body and Michaels then pulls down the ref and Michaels is counted out first,his streak of opening match wins ends and Tatanka wins.Luna attacks Sherri and knocks out Sherri after the match.**,it would have been higher except for the messed up ending. 20 minute(approximately)match.

 

 

-Gene Okerlund interview the Steiner Brothers.

 

 

-Headshrinkers Vs. Steiner Brothers:JR says this match will be a sloberknock for the first time ever.Scott and Fatu start off and Scott with an armbar but Fatu reverses and then Scott reverses.Tehy exchange punches,Scott with a Steiner Line,Fatu is down and then back up and Scott is being drilled by both Headshrinkers.Both Steiners on top they clothsline both Headshrinkers,they announce that Luna has just attacked Sherri in the first aid area.Samu is taking control over Rick Steiner,Rick with a Steinerline and it sends Samu into the post and Scott comes in and he drop kicks Fatu.Samu basically flings Scott out of the ring.Scott wacked by Afa's stick,Samu is killing Scott Steiner and now Fatu is beating on Scott Steiner while the Steiners get drilled I must say it's a beautiful day for the first outdoor WrestleMania.Scott Steiner is really hurt and Fatu makes a tag to Samu.Samu is beating on Scott Steiner and Fatu is in.They are double teaming Scott Steiner and Fatu is pounding on Scott Steiner. both men go down.Fatu tags Samu adn they are keeping the momentum on.Samu destroys Scott,he misses a head but,both men down again.Both men make tags,Rick is going nuts on the Headshrinkers,until a stupid head BUTT.Samu and Scott are in and the Headshrinkers go for the Dooms Day Device but Rick body slams him.Scott in but Samu keep it in.A Steinerline and it is over.**1/2.That was pretty good.

 

 

-Gene Okerlund with Doink.They show Doink hitting Crush with a caste.He says after the match Crush will see "double."This becomes important later.

 

 

-Crush Vs. Doink:Crush chases Doink and is beating the day lights out of him,Crush ahs a huge size advantage over Doink.Crush has dominated the whole match but here comes Doink,or maybe no.I keep thinking Doink will snap in half,Doink finally gets some momentum and he is taking the upper hand on Doink.He gets a piledriver,he is working on the arm of Crush.A bodyslam,he misses of the top rope and Crush with a bodyslam and a clothsline over the top rope.HE tries to go under the ring but Crush catches him and gets the powerslam.Teh cobra clutch,but Doink gets to the ropes.The ref gets knocked out,another Cobra Clutch and it is Double Doink!!!They beat on Crush with the caste and they do something like it is an illusion.Doink pins Crush and gets the win,1/2* for the Double Doink incident.The ref comes out and there is no Doink under the ring.

 

 

-Todd Pettengil asks some Japanese guy if there were two Doinks adn other Japanese guy starts to laugh and then the Japanese guy goes Yokozuna number one.

 

 

-Razor Ramon vs. Bob Backlund:This is the Tim Mayer Special Match:It is right before Razor turns annd becomes a face and the crowd is very behind Razor.I would meet Bob Backlund 6 1/2 years after this.A report for the First Aid Center is Sherri has been shaken up.The crowd with a big Razor chant.Razor is beating on Backlund,oh but Backlund comes back.Ramon with a body slam and another one.Ramon is now slapping him silly and kicks to the head.Ramon is taunting him but Backlund comes back with a supeplex and then an atomic drop.Ramon with an inside craddle and out of nowhere Ramon wins.**,not bad.

 

 

-Gene Okerlund w/Money Inc.and they show when they hit Brutus with the briefcase on Monday Night Raw.And they hint that something happened to Hogan.

 

 

-Tag Team Title Match:Money Inc.(Champions)Vs. The Mega Maniacs(Challengers):of course the Mega Maniacs are Hogan and Brutus who got a huge pop.Hogan has a balck eye,accident,yeah right.Actually it was a boating accident two days before the event.Money Inc. attacks and they have to pay for that.Now there is a lot of de;aying,remember the Maniacs have former Money Inc. manager Jimmy Hart,I.R.S begins with Beefcake but Dibiase comes in right away and they are dominating.I.R.S. is in with no tag and here is Dibiase and he hits the mask and hurts his hand and here comes the Maniacs.Brutus is beating on Dibiase and Hogan is in,here comes the boredness of Hulkamania.Hogan beats on Dibiase by punching and punching and punching.Guess what? more punches,double boot,Beefcake is in,Hogan is back in and ax handels Dibiase, and a punch,punch,clothsline and Hogan punches I.R.S.Giant pop for Hogan,too many punches!!!Money Inc. is leaving and the ref tells Funkus Maximus if Money Inc. do not come back tehy lose the match and the titles,they make it back at 9!!!Dibiase is punching Hogan and I.R.S is choking Hogan and then the Million Dollar Dream!!!Hogan is dossing off,chants of Hogan,Hogan,Hogan, Beefcake with the sleeper on Dibiase,both Hogan and Dibiase are down.Again up at nine,both men with tags.Beefcake is clearing house and I.R.S. is getting pounded by Brutus until he is hit by Dibiase.Dibiase is in and he tries to take Brutus's face guard that is protecting hism essed up face.They get it off,it will be like a hockey game there is going to be a face,give credit for that one to Bobby Heenan.Brutus with a double clothsline on I.R.S and Dibiase followed by a sleeper on I.R.S,broken up by Dibiase and I.R.S,Brutus and the ref go down.Broth make tags,Hogan with punches,big boot, Hogan hits both Dibiase and I.R.S. with the mask and they pin Money Inc. Jimmy Hart comes in and flips his jacket around to the striped side and count the three.Another ref comes in and raises Money Inc. hands.Jimmy throws referee Danny Davis out of the ring.**1/2.I have seen worse.Hogan adn Brutus celebrate for 5 minute and they open the briefcase and find tax forms,a brick and some real(as far as I know)money.

 

 

-Todd Pettengill with Natalie Cole,no relationship to Michael and the owner of Ceasars Palace who is happy with a lot of things.

 

 

-Gene Okerlund with Mr.Perfect,who has had a pretty good week.Perfect calls Lex Luger the Lexercist.

 

 

-Lex Luger Vs.Mr.Perfect:Luger comes out with these hot girls with mirrors that have sparkles coming out of them.There is this guy in the crowd who looks like the Bezerker.They tie up and a few reversals and Luger hits Perfect but Perfect with a few knock downs and a dropkick and Luger is out of there.Luger with a cheap shot and he is pounding on Luger's leg and he gets a half figure four,so I guess you could call it a figure two.Luger gets to the rope and Perfect is slapping Luger silly and a chop but Luger sends Perferct to each turnbuckle and Luger works on him on the outside of the ring.Luger stays on the lowerback and has full momentum and the fans in Las Vegas are weird and Perfect fights back but is high-kneed by Luger and gets a two with his feet on the rope.A sunset flip then reversed but Luger back on top and Perfect starts to fight back and Perfect gets a two count on an inside cradle.Perfect caddipolts luger into the post and Perfect is working on Luger.Perfect with a drop kickfrom up top and Luger with a backslide,Perfects feet are on the ropes the ref doesen' see it and it's over.***,Luger knocks out Perfect with the forearm.That was a good match,Perfect goes into the back and finds Luger with Shawn Michaels and Michaels beats on Perfect,this would lead to a bad match at SummerSlam.

 

 

-Savage almost decked Bobby Heenan.

-Gorrilla Monsoon tells us that The Undertaker withll take on The Giant Gonzalez followed by the main event for the WWF Title between Bret Hart and Yokozuna.

 

 

-The Undertaker Vs.The Giant Gonzalez:The Undertaker with a crazy entrance with a vulture and stuff.We begin with Gonzalez taking a shot on the Undertaker and The Taker blocks a third one but Gonzalez fights back and low blows The Taker.Taker walks the ropes and hits Gonzalez and works on him but Gonzalez with a big boot. Gonzalez with a reverse chinlock which is on for like 5 minutes.Gonzelz is pound on the Taker adn throws him into the steps but Taker gets back up.A head BUTT,Taker up and they do the same thing again.The Undertaker fights back and Gonzalez down but has a towel of chlorofor and The Taker is passing out and The Taker isn't moving.A bunch of officials come down and The Undertaker is taken away on a stretcher and Gonzalez chokeslams a ref.The Undertaker comes back and he is beating on The Giant Gonzalez and gets a huge pop and The Undertaker wins by DQ and The Undertaker's WreslteMania matches get worse each year.-****.

 

 

-Gene Okerlund and they show Yokozuna pounding Jim Duggan,followed by him pounding Bret Hart at the WrestleMania IX Press Confrence and then Hogan comes in and yables on and calls Yokozuna a Jap.He then issues a title shot for who ever the champion will be.

-Todd Pettengill with two drunk guys and a kid who big ears.

 

 

-Main Event:WWF Title Match:Yokozuna(Champion)Vs. Bret Hart(Challeger):I am very pumped for this match because Bret Hart has the all pink outfit on and they begin by showing a nasty view between Yokozuna's legs.Bret with a drop kick followed by punches and more punches but Yokozuna slaps him.The Hitman comes back and ties his leg to the rope and pound on him and an elbow drop.Bret gets clothslined,a body slam followed by a leg drop,Bret is being dominated now.He kicks him and brings Yokozuna down to the mat Yoko answers with an oriental arm hold,JR said it.The crowd is chanting USA and the Brain makes fun of them because one guy is from Canada and one is from Japan.Bret comes back with a bulldog and a running clothsline.Yoko pulls Bret away from the open turnbuckle and then a Sharpshooter!!! Fuji throws the salt is Bret's eyes and Yokozuna with a leg drop,the pin and he gets the three.It is over,**,not bad.It is Hogan and Fuji challenges him to take on Yokozuna and then he puts the title on the line right now.Hogan being Hogan goes in and gets grabbed from Yokozuna and Fuji misses with the slat,Big Boot,Leg Drop and we have a New Champion!!!What a suprise ending.Hogan does his usually celebration while the Brain is screaming while Hogan celebrates in the ring!!!

 

 

Bottom Line:This show has a bad reputasion but I think it is a pretty good show for a number of reasons.Recommended to check out.

Good Rant although I did enjoy the show, after thinking it over some things were not too good. I believe you rated Backlund/Ramon to high as well as Luger/Perfect (although it was enjoyable but nothing that good.) WMOTY from WM IX is tied with SSlam 93's Gonzalez/UT. I didn't notice but the show had 3 DQ/Count-out finishes, which I never payed attention too. (don't forget their was only 8 REAL matches). Still it was a good rant.

 

Side note, why must everyone make fun of Tatanka's name?

 

Also, Crush's finisher is the Cranium Crunch (or Crush, depending who you talk to.)

Also, (since i dont feel like editing again the alst post), Hogan REFUSED to fight Yokozuna and instead was trying tog et the referee to reverse the decision and help Bret abck to the lockerroom, until Bret signaled for him to go into the ring.

Good rant. I have avoided this tape because it's gotten a bad rap, but it sounds ok so I might check it out.

You should definitely check it out,I like it a lot,even though people say it is the worst WWF WrestleMania ever,but it is a good event to check out.

2 atleast had the um...............well, Bulldogs/Dream Team & JYD/Ttito vs. Funks was good. Ok, 2 ties with 9 as the worst (overall card), although i like both oddly.
